These people are loons!

The majority of Americans are suspicious of the entire teetering edifice of Global Warming^TM hysteria, so the fact that United Airlines is doubling down on this insanity is telling. My guess is that it goes hand-in-hand with DEI and other progressive tools, because that's how leftist corporations roll, and UAL is definitely a leftist company.

But this particular grift is slick. UAL isn't asking for donations to fund some green project in Sh*tcanistan or deepest darkest Africa. No, they are asking for money to help defray the costs of their own initiatives! They are not content to fund it with their own money, because that runs the risk of getting slapped down by their board of directors and the financial markets. So they go directly to their customers with this weird, touchy-feely begging. It's a mission! An initiative! It's for sustainability!

The buzz-words are great, although a bit dated. They will have to come up with some new ones to continue the grift into President Trump's term, because they will be conspicuously on the outside looking in.

Too bad they don't spend some of their AGW money on maintaining and cleaning their planes. I fly UAL a lot, and they do the bare minimum. Plus, the food sucks! Although their house bourbon is Buffalo Trace, which is a pleasant pour, so I guess it could be worse.

It is long past time for the boards of directors of major corporations in America to force the issue, and make their CEOs return to the appropriate goals of every public company: enhancing shareholder value is not something that has become passé. And even worse; rent-seeking behavior in pursuit of transient government funding to support these green initiatives is a recipe for disaster. Governments change! Priorities change! But the pursuit of profit will never go out of style.

I spent the summer in Norway in 1972. It was unusually warm and beautiful nearly the whole time. Went swimming in fjords and at the North Sea at my grandparents house every day. Everyone had a tan and the ladies took off their shirts. The city folk in Oslo sat under their lawn sprinklers until bedtime. It was in the low 80s and not humid.

Perfectly innocent!

The classic example of this genre was the New York Times publishing a sob store about an innocent deported to Jamaica ("a country he barely knew") after 25 years in the US. It turned out that this innocent had spent 16 of those 25 years in Federal prison.

It used to be the common idea (among the Vegans and Vegan-curious) that the reason Americans have trouble with a vegan diet when the Indians manage it, was that the food storage in India was such that there was always a degree of insect infestation in the food in India, which provided sufficient animal protein.

Not going to happen when the boards of directors of most major corporations in America (and the world) are made up of Marxist leftists who are more interested in pushing their ideology than making profits. See Hollywood. "The message" and woke indoctrination has been the priority since 2015 or so and there is no loss of profits that will deter them from continuing the indoctrination.

They are playing the long game. The Marxist Left started their push decades ago. And the election of Reagan did not deter them. The election and eventual re-election of Trump will not deter them either. We have been in a never-ending civil war with the Marxist Left for at least 50-75 years.
