THE MORNING RANT: President Trump defunds PBS and NPR, which identify the Declaration of Independence as a “document that contains offensive language”

Back before government-funded public radio fully morphed into a bastion of anti-Americanism, NPR had a tradition of reading the Declaration of Independence every July 4.

With NPR, PBS, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting fully captured by the America-hating left, the annual reading of the Declaration became a distasteful experience for NPR’s journalists. Effective July 4, 2022, NPR officially terminated its annual reading of the Declaration of Independence, replacing it instead with a discussion of what a despicable country the United States is and has always been. NPR understood that July 4th is a traumatic day for its listener base, so it sought to offer some comfort to triggered listeners recoiling at the star-spangled fun going on around them by denouncing patriotic Americans as being racists.

NPR also retroactively updated its previous links about the reading of the Declaration of Independence to advise that it is a racist document containing offensive language. Here is a link to NPR’s July 4, 2019 reading of the Declaration, with an Editors Note retroactively added in 2022 which reads:

Editor's note on July 8, 2022: This story quotes the U.S. Declaration of Independence — a document that contains offensive language about Native Americans, including a racial slur.

Although the House of Representatives allegedly controls the nation’s purse strings, and although there have been numerous Republican House speakers over the past several decades, none has chosen to defund NPR and PBS. President Donald Trump finally did what Mike Johnson, Paul Ryan, Kevin McCarthy, John Boehner, etc would not do when he ordered the suspension of all taxpayer funding to NPR and PBS.

Going back decades, Republicans have been promising to defund NPR and PBS, but none did, not until Donald Trump came along.

President George W. Bush could have defunded public broadcasting, but he wouldn’t. Speaker Paul Ryan, an alleged small-government “budget hawk” could have done so too, but he wouldn’t. Current House Speaker Mike Johnson could stop any further appropriations for public broadcasting, but he has shown that he won’t. In fact, Speaker Johnson has pretty much put the House on permanent vacation so he can avoid enacting any legislation to codify into law the actions of President Trump and DOGE.

This is another reminder of why President Trump’s support is so strong from those of us who are weary of establishment Republicans who promised to reduce the size of government and cut spending, but didn’t. Bush, Ryan, Boehner, etc all lied to our faces when they talked about eliminating government waste and defunding left-wing propaganda mills operating at taxpayer expense. These are the same establishment Republicans who also ran on the promise of closing the border, eliminating the Department of Education, etc. They never meant any of it. They lied to us to get elected. But now, Donald Trump has actually closed the border and is eliminating the Department of Education.

Meanwhile, the polite Republicans of Conservative, Inc. all applaud those same mendacious establishment Republicans for having the “character” that Donald Trump lacks. They also condemn Trump as not being a “true conservative” even though he is the only Republican to slash government jobs and spending in a manner that we conservatives have been demanding for years.

There is nothing about defunding NPR and PBS that will prevent it from operating without taxpayer funding. Its loyal listeners can still hate on the flag and hold a solemn day of mourning every July 4. But thanks to Donald Trump, those of us who love this country will no longer have to pay for NPR’s America-bashing propaganda.

*****

My latest piece at The Blaze has been published. In it I discuss how Harvard’s cash scramble is worsening, as the poison Ivy has to keep running to the bond market to raise enough cash to pay its bills.

In the past two months, Harvard has turned to the bond markets twice to quickly raise over $1 billion in cash. This follows a scramble in 2024 to raise $1.5 billion through similar bond offerings, which still fell short of its initial target.

I also discuss why Harvard’s famous (and highly illiquid) endowment cannot help it through this liquidity crisis, as donors and Donald Trump combine to constrict Harvard’s traditional sources of operating revenue. The piece is behind a paywall, but if you’re a Blaze subscriber, I’d be honored if you’d give it a read.

They'll let this pass without comment because it's not actually a big deal, right?

Paul Ryan refused a real budget because he didn't want to fund a border wall.

Because he was a budget hawk and couldn't find that funding from cutting...USAID, Planned Parenthood, NPR, or anything else.

Trump is a big government guy who has...cut federal spending 5% in the first quarter of his second term.

It's a historical irony, but it's also true.

Maybe the federal government has just gotten so big that even honest big government guys are like, "Whoa...this is too much."

Meh. You’ve never seen cartoon robots before? Either in Pixar -type movies or any one of the several “five nights at Freddy’s” type movies? They just did a cartoon-like robot movie last year called … Wild Robot.

The only interesting robots in the movie were the scavenger bots, which were in the movie for maybe 5 minutes, and surprisingly easy to defeat.

No "McCafe", no touch-screen order kiosks, no constantly flipping menus on big monitors. Just git 'er done. And I should be able to get that order for about 5 bucks.

A bit off topic but your comment reminds me of a sergeant I had working for me years ago. A great NCO and a fine family. His daughter was on the softball team I coached. I was called into the boss's office and told I needed to counsel the sergeant because he had not cashed his paycheck for months. I was to find out why and if the family was in distress.
So later I walked over to his desk and had a quiet word. He laughed when I told him why I was there, opened his desk drawer and there were paychecks going back almost a year. Turns out he received a stipend from the tribe every month that was a hell of a lot more than staff sergeant's pay. He was saving the Army pay for a Christmas vacation.

164 It was Birx that pushed the shutdown not America’s answer to Mengele, Fauci. There’s a lot of blame to go around. They played on Trump’s germophobia to a tee. Having once been burnt, I hope and and do believe Trump won’t go along with any medical alert hoaxes this time. But remember there was no nationwide shutdown order, as the conspirators wanted. Trump left it up to the governors in true federal fashion. Here in Georgia the governor did not issue a state wide shut down, but a lot of cities and counties did. In my county, the county seat, as a city, issued a shutdown, but the county never did (I live in the country). The county issued an order for everyone to be at home from 10 PM to 6 PM, as they figured a lot of people would put on a lot of drunken, all-night parties otherwise. I just did my grocery shopping at a little IGA near me in a small town that issued no shutdown orders. The store owner didn’t care if I wore a mask or not. I just avoided the county seat as much as possible.

Whoever signed off on that needs to never be ANYWHERE near another government contract.

The Army cancels the M10 Booker, a ‘light tank’ that was too heavy

Sen. Elizabeth Warren was a particular critic of the Booker’s Right-to-Repair language, citing it in Driscoll’s January confirmation hearing.

“When right-to-repair restrictions are in place, it’s bigger profits for giant defense contractors, but also higher prices for DoD and longer wait times for service members who need to get equipment repaired so they’re ready to go,” Warren said in the hearing.

196 Israel’s government has approved a plan to seize all of the Gaza Strip and hold control over the territory for an unspecified length of time, officials have revealed. Government officials said the newly approved offensive plan would move Gaza’s civilian population southward and keep humanitarian aid from falling into the hands of the terrorist group Hamas. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet ministers unanimously approved plans for the new offensive on Monday morning. Well, they redid Persuasion with an Asian actor playing Captain Wentworth of the royal Navy. There is, however, a retelling of Pride and Prejudice with African American folks. I think other parts of the story are changed as well. I only know this because the AA postmistress at the town where the church I serve was reading it and I always like to know what people are reading. Could they have been dramatizing that novel?

266 Ms. Maher I opened my handy-dandy copy of the Constitution and I'll be damned if I can find the word "platform" in the first amendment. If that's the most important part, like you say, you'd think it would actually, you know, appear there?!

The alternate interpretation is you're full of shit.

267 172 Mencken's translation of the Declaration of Independence into American:

https://tinyurl.com/5462ftk5

"He stirred up the Indians, and give them arms and ammunition, and told them to go to it, and they have killed men, women and children, and don’t care which."

I'm now fully convinced Mencken was an idiot. I think his quote at the top of the blog is quite possibly the only inteligent thing he ever said. If, and only if it is an original quote. Which I doubt.

268 Going back decades, Republicans have been promising to defund NPR and PBS, but none did, not until Donald Trump came along.

How can we grift off of defunding NPR/PBS if it is actually defunded? Remember what our grifting pro-carb anti-keto doctors say: "A patient cured is a patient lost"

269 Bush official claims US built secret $21T underground ‘city’ for rich and powerful to live if ‘near-extinction event’ happens

...

Carlson responded by claiming that he actually knew “a contractor who worked on one in Washington, D.C.,” stating: “I remember him telling me about a power box, like a transformer box, on Constitution Avenue. … He told me [that] was actually the exit, the egress from the White House.

... I've been told that there at least used to be a major telephone exchange under the mall between the USDA and the US Trade Representatives' office ... which isn't far from Constitution Avenue.

270 It is a direct line from the Movie "Birth of a Nation" and its explanation of why we need the Klan, to today's leftists. Rap music simply pushes the Klan view of black men as dangerous thugs and black women as hoes. That is why we have Gansta Rap. Its nothing but Hollywood Klansmen trying to push their racist views on everyone with the willing cooperation of black performers.

271 Trump 45 could have defunded NPR/CPB, but didn’t, TBF. Though his decision to pull the plug on these jokers is welcome.
