German Spy Agency Officially Classifies AfD Party as 'Extremist'

Germany’s domestic intelligence agency has officially classified the right-wing party Alternative for Germany (AfD) as extremist.
Having regarded the AfD as a suspected extremist movement since 2021, the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV), on May 2 designated the populist party as “right-wing extremist,” following an “intensive and comprehensive expert examination.”
This means that intelligence services now have the right to keep it under surveillance.
BfV said in a statement that AfD’s approach to ethnicity is “not compatible with the free democratic basic order.”
According to BfV’s statement, AfD does not consider German nationals with a migration background from Muslim-origin countries as equal members of the German people.

Here is the AdF's statement on German citizenship. It looks a bit different than how they are described in the media.

I know...I know... it's impossible for the 4th Estate to be anything but perfectly neutral and aboveboard. Yet here we are!

The German people made AfD one of the most popular parties in Germany, and clearly the elites in Germany can't tolerate having mere citizens deciding the fate of the country.

Are there true extremists in AfD? Of course. Just like there are true extremists in every single political party on earth. But it is curious that the lunatic violent environmentalists who want Germany back in the stone age aren't classified as extremists. And it is curious that the remnants of the communists who routinely surveilled, tortured, imprisoned, and murdered their fellow Germans aren't classified as extremists. And it is most curious that the Muslims openly advocating for sharia law in Germany are not classified as extremists.

And...Is AfD anti-Semitic and anti-Israel? Uh... not any more than most of Europe!

And AfD and Israel have common cause...they both see militant Islam as an existential danger. And that is in stark contrast to the ruling party: CDU never met a murdering Islamist they didn't like!

So maybe Germany should be allowed their opinions on foreigners taking over their country. Obviously they need Donald Trump to run for Chancellor. Maybe he can clean up Germany's border after he fixes ours!

I would have been a bad bad thing. The administration for the East was a military dictatorship that ignored even the German government. They might not have been as tough on the Jews, but on the other hand real history showed that the Nazis weren't the only country and people that took any opportunity to attack or kill their Jewish countrymen.

Remember, it's named for the Romans who settled ancient Dacia. The Turks referred to the Byzantine Empire as "Rum," their version of "Rome." So, I imagine that "Rumanian" was current when the country was under Turkish rule, and immediately thereafter, and is the reason that it's disfavored now. Probabaly took awhile for the non-Romanians to accept it, though.

In Oolder French spoken by the Normans they used the ancestor of the modern word was "leuf" which drifted to "lieu" as Modern French evolved. But the old pronunciation had already made it across the Channel and stuck.

Most women my age claim to not want to have kids until they're about... 30-33. At which point they're scrambling to find a boyfriend and hoping to rush through the whole dating / engagement / marriage thing and jump to having babies.

I grew up in it. They were programmed. "look at how your mother and grandmother had to live. Pregnant in the kitchen, catering to a man! That's not the life you want!" was the constant drum beat of messaging. "Go to college, get a job, date around, travel, experience life, then if you want to have kids, settle down later and meet a man. But also, the world will end in a few decades anyways due to climate change, so why even have kids?"

Unfortunately, biology is a bit cruel in that sense. It's not easy to be 35 and single and realize you want to have kids.

Except the soil there is basically weak mud all the way down.

Romanian is an engineered language that was an attempt to create both a sense of nationalism and a separation from the south-west Slav influences that Romania had carried since forever, by recreating its latinate language.
Although it retained its case endings and the other grammatical elements from Latin (probably having to do with how extremely different they were from Slavic) it still retains Slavic very basice elements like "da" for yes

I have argued that Esperanto is simplified Romanian with all the case endings stripped off so it mimics English, grammatically. I have lost that argument many times, but I still hope to find someone who both cares, and would agree with me.

Ever hear of Market Garden "A Bridge Too Far"? The failures of that hint that Dunkirk being trivial to take is unlikely. About a third of the troops rescued at Dunkirk were sent right back to France and surrendered there.

Not according to any map I've seen. German Panzer units surrounded the Brits and French at Dunkirk. It took several days for infantry to catch up.

Its entirely possible that, at that point, Hitler expected the UK to fold. They didn't ... and it was the last point at which the Reich has any chance of success.

Britain allied with Poland because they had first pick of the USSR or Poland. They thought Poland would be better, plus no Commies. They treated Russia like crap and somehow thought you could only ally with one country in the area.

Stalin being practical allied with Germany to the extent of picking up extra land in the Baltics, Finland, Romania and Poland to extend the depth Germany had to advance to get to Moscow.

Being german, I have been frustrated by these constant american based mischaracterzations of AFD as being merely right wing.

It is not.

It started out as something euro-sceptic, which in that case meant "the fiscal policies of the EU are terrible and arguably outside the bounds of consent under which the german people agreed to the initial treaties, this needs correction".

At that point it was literally a party of economic professors, as those were the founding members.
It saw some success during the first election and then two things happened:
1. It got labeled a lot more right wing than they actually were.
Now for 2) you need to know that Germany is rife with very small ultra right (Hitler did nothing wrong types, the german equivalent to sovereign citiziens in the US and other assorted whackos, yes, there is also maoist/stalinist parties but they dunction a bit differently) parties. Constantly reforming/renaming themselves, partly for PR, partly for legal reason (leadership being convicted of hatecrimes, usually arson of aslyum facilities, sometimes soccer hooliganism). That means there is relativly large pool of connected ultra right wingers thar share one dream:

This not a new dream, their political ancestors actually tried ti refund the NSDAP with barely a new coat of paint and when that failed (Party got forbidden) they tried taking over an established party. That was in the 1950*s, the party was the FDP and only the UK occupation force intervening scuppered that attempt. But ever since, when a new party in Germany looks to be getting off the ground, these ultra right wing elements will try to flood that party, become part of that structure and eventually be that structure.
