A 5070 with 12gb of vram, $550. IIRC it's sort of a base model (even though they claim a "70") and more of an evolution of the mid 4 series and maybe the high power 3s, which makes sense why it's trickling out to stores first.

38 The new ruling requires Apple to give developers seemingly unrestricted use of links and buttons for sales purposes. And the company is no longer allowed to charge a commission on purchases made over the web.

Apple spokesperson Olivia Dalton said the company disagreed with the court’s decision and would appeal.

I’m sure you will, Olivia, I’m sure you will.

Continue on showing the mendacity and greed that Apple is becoming famous for.

I particularly liked the part in this article where they showed the app payment link mock-ups that Apple made to frighten the crap out of people leaving the App from going out on the big bad ‘insecure’ web to pay the developer.

And then Apple wanted to argue their use of the word ‘scary’ to describe the experience didn’t really mean what is obviously meant.

Screw the developer, scare the customer, and gaslight the public, all to make another billion or two a month.

Based on doctors orders, every day I gulp down a pint of water when I wake up, a pint before each of the 3 main meals and a pint immediately after exercising.

I have had gout about 4 times in the last several years, almost always after some severe body stress, such as an operation. I pop the prescribed pills when it comes on but after that, it never comes back as long as I'm well hydrated.

I don't need to be nagged not to develop gout.

Posted by: Boron Cobbie - Look up the definition of Nose Ring Theory at May 02, 2025 05:10 AM (Ji8U7)

The 5070 got really bad reviews.
1. It’s practically the same as the 4070 Super which just came out in January of 2024. The only added feature is the multi-frame generation which is exclusive to 50-series cards.

2. It still only has 12GB of VRAM. Where the Radeon RTX 9070 has 16GB for about the same price.

People who need an upgrade from the 1070 or 2070 might find it appealing but everybody else is saying “Ehh, I’ll just wait.” or buy the AMD product for better price and performance.

Nvidia is already working on the 50-series Super variants for next year, so wait them out.

55 Howdy, insomaniacals! All I can recall of my dreams last night was something about riding in a helicopter, which I've never done in real life but only seen on TV. It was apparently a huge luxury copter on the order of a Lear Jet, though, and I was listening to several important-looking and -acting men talk about something. It might have been plans to subvert the US's 2028 election, the winning lottery numbers for this week, or the location of Jimmy Hoffa's body.

Unfortunately I don't remember. Oh, well, that's how it goes sometimes.

'Tis Friday, though, the consummation devoutly to be wished!

I got the doctor's instructions the last time I had an attack which came after a meniscus tear. That was over a year ago. I took my meds for 4-6 days, along with the hydration instructions.

66 Temp outside is 70 to 73 F., depending on which source you believe. Humidity is horrifying, but there is almost no wind. So I have decent conditions for a workout.

Miss Linda's movie night last evening got canceled, so she brought over a '24 movie about the selection of a new pope, Conclave. It has Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, and Isabella Rossellini. It's one of those leisurely, "worthy" films with some long silences and moments where nothing much seems to happen, during which, as Ace pointed out, you can check your phone. Yes, it's actually pretty interesting in the twists and turns of the maneuvering -- but it has a rather woke-ist surprise ending. I hesitate to recommend it

My daughter is graduating in December with a degree in civil engineering with an emphasis in traffic. They're doing work on the streets near my house and one section was done for months but still closed. She was home for the holidays and I complained about it. She glanced over at the road as we passed and then told me that it, in fact, wasn't done because the traffic lines weren't painted on it.

Why haven't they painted the traffic lines, I asked. Because the street painting crews are hired for an entire day so they don't get called in until there's a day's worth of work read for them. It's all about how things are funded.

I read several years back that the reason highway construction took so long is that legislatures tend to fund construction annually and they may only fund enough for a few months worth of work so it sits there until they fund more.

86 There was an incoming Houti missile after 5AM this morning in northern Israel. The path most probably was SE to NW.

A few minutes ago, another one triggered the same alert for the north. But this time, the intercept was heard loud and clear here in Jerusalem, likely north of here. Nice big BOOM!

We should DOGE state budgets as well as Federal budgets.

I think that lasted all of a year before he realized his royalty payments had to come from somewhere and radio wasn’t doing it for him when his main audience is dying by the millions every year.

I’m pretty sure a real socialist would give his music away for free, but Neil is Canadian so he only believes in socialism at the doctor’s office.

Mushrooms didn't turn out to be an all-or-nothing, but I can have about two slices of pizza with mushrooms on them maximum, and I may NOT do leftovers the next day or it does this cumulative thing and I'm in the hurt locker.

@45/Biden's Dog: Hydration does seem to really help with this, but as a bus driver, hydration is also your enemy during the driving day. Kids-on-board and tight time schedules are the main obstacles to that. You learn to squeeze your short break in where you can, and most importantly, you cut down on your morning coffee amount, and your water throughout the day.

I drink a lot of water at the end of the day. Of course then I need to pee like a racehorse at 3 AM. *sighs*

122 Doesn’t most food sold here come from the U.S, itself?

I realize there are seasonal imports, certain fruits and vegetables come from South America during our winters, etc., and that certain things are only grown in certain areas of the world.

But are we pretty much “food secure” here in regards to providing our own food supply?

The toilet paper thing was always a self-made shortage where a bunch of Venezuelans in Florida started buying it all up in bulk, it made the news, and then people turned it into a huge scalpers supply & demand play.

We’ve always made toilet paper in the States, literally none of it is imported.

136 I'm still pissed off that Texas wants to be like Marxist UK and violate the US Constitution by criminalizing the manufacture of political memes. (HB 366)

There is a very long history of lampooning politicians, and for these assholes to write a special law criminalizing mocking them while they can continue to conduct their special brand of evil in lawfare is an abomination.

They had absolutely no problems in make false charges against Ken Paxton and bringing up bogus impeachment s, but have AI "alter" or "generate" an image of them is obscene and is elitist.

They are criminalizing the use of Photoshop without all kinds of disclosures. I promise you, the Left, if they knew how to meme, would violate that without a thought. The same feckless politicians that voted for this are the very same people who need mocking and would demand an unequal playing field.

Nothing like jailing and fining your opponents when they can make better political advertisements than you.

As I understand it, if you use AI to generate an image the bill only requires you to label it as generated and who paid for it (which is the same as other political advertising).

As AI get better at reproducing images this will become more and more necessary.

Can someone challenge a law that is simply unconstitutional on its face without having suffered damages personally? (This question hinges on the legal principle of "having standing" when bringing suit.)

Habemus papam or Papam habemus ('We have a pope') is the announcement traditionally given by the protodeacon of the College of Cardinals (the senior cardinal deacon in the College) or by the senior cardinal deacon participating in the papal conclave, in Latin, upon the election of a new pope of the Roman Catholic Church.

The announcement is made from the central balcony (loggia) of St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican, overlooking St. Peter's Square. After the announcement, the new pope is presented to the people where he gives his first Urbi et Orbi blessing.
