EPA cancels 781 Environmental Justice Grants because Trump is a big ole meanie who ran on just this sort of thing, and you should be super mad about it

You regretting your vote yet, MAGAts?!

The agency plans to send cancellation notifications to an additional 404 - meaning a total of 781 grants are being canceled, said the filing, a declaration from Daniel Coogan, the EPA's Deputy Assistant Administrator for Infrastructure and Extramural Resources.

The grants are primarily related to programs that deal with environmental justice - that is, dealing with pollution in communities that face disproportionate impacts and have limited resources. This includes low-income and minority communities.

The Trump administration has targeted environmental justice programs - firing 280 staffers and reassigning another 175 who worked on the issue, saying it's part of a broader effort against diversity initiatives.

This push to kill government grants to leftist organizations, I think, has the potential for being the largest, undertold story of the second Trump administration.

I see numbers like 781 grants being canceled, and I just...wonder. There's no information about how much money that represents, but the EPA gives out $4 billion a year in grants. Those grants can be less than $100,000 to small orgs, $1 million to other governments, or bigger. So, this could be maybe a few million dollars or a couple of billion. Probably somewhere in between. I would guess the 781 represents a few tens of millions, tops.

But, that's tens of millions of dollars designed to prop up a leftist ecosystem of lawyers and activists to fight for leftist causes. This creates a system of support for government action and social coercion that wouldn't exist otherwise.

And grants are being cut everywhere. The USAID cuts got the most attention ($40 billion), but every agency has this sort of thing, and every agency is cutting back.

Combine that with the Democrats' efforts to alienate as much of the American public as possible since the Obama's first election, and you've got an interesting mix that we haven't seen the fruits of yet.

I can't make predictions, but I can say...it might be interesting.

We'll see.

Because they're doing the actual budget process for 25-26. Once that's done, then they can pass rescission bills to eliminate funding.

It's Congressional rules stuff.

Whether they do it or not, is yet to be seen. But they have a good excuse for the inaction right now.

90 61 Good start. Now cut to the bare bones the enforcement staff, and get rid of their "SWAT" Team. Plus cut all of the EPA labs, because they do nothing.

I've seen first hand how the EPA has destroyed American manufacturing, now they need to be destroyed. Yeah, it's personal with me.
Posted by: Ganowicz
------
Well, to give you tingles, The EPA was created by executive order drolly named the Reorganization Plan of 1970 by Nixon. There are statutory requirements to administer different Clean Air Act and Clean Water Act provisions but not an authorizing requirement by Congress to create the EPA as an agency.

The laws requiring various anti pollution requirements being removed would take Congress. But technically, it appears that the EPA, like AID, could be shut down and its regulatory assignments sent to other agencies by another Executive Order. A great deal could be delegated to the states as is already the case--every state has an antipollution agency already.

Federal deficit spending is a dry topic but take a deeper look at government financial reports for the first quarter. Tariff revenue might not make the 1 trillion mark after all is said and done but it could very well reach the 250-500 billion level. Plus, government revenue on taxes is up for Q1 and that leaves out the traditional surplus in April-May from taxes.

You will have to piece it together from different sources. So far, I think something like $50 billion or so was cut in Q1 in real spending (not reflecting all the cuts yet as unrealized but simply less outlays in Q1).

A significant number of exports from Canada to the US are, also, available from Argentina. Relative to oil, the Canadian product is primarily Heavy Crude. About 75% of our refineries in the US are set up for Heavy Crude. The primary oil domestically in the US is Sweet Light Crude. To switch over and become more self-sufficient, we would have to either retool the refineries, or build new ones.

All those used photovotaic cells 'cheap' on craigslist is because their lifespan is shot. The P-N junctions diffuse spontaneously into each other. No more electrons can be pushed across the barrier because it's gone.

We're also greatly increasing reroofing cost because another contractor has to R&R the panels. They won't want to touch them because they're old. They want to upset another new system. $50 grand?

286 The condemnable global warming hoax sucks otherwise good minds into its vortex of lies. I lost one of my most gifted undergraduate students to this blamed conspiracy. He thought he would be helping save the world. I thought he would be wasting his career. He was shocked when I refused to give him a recommendation to go study global warning at the graduate level. He got enough recommendations from other professors that he went off and did, despite my heartfelt warning. He came back later with some of his research that he presented in a departmental colloquium. It didn’t seem to show anything: despite a huge amount of “forcing” in the model (extra putative heat sources) the model showed almost no effects. I analogized his model, in a question at the end of his talk, that if a flea bit an elephant really hard on its arse, the elephant might flick its tail. He reluctantly agreed with my analogy. At least he remained honest in his modeling, disregarding the extra forcing, which didn’t really exist.
