I guess this type of painting is called "suggestionism".
Because almost nothing is correct. Hobo in dark blue is holding & standing on nothing. Guy down track is about to get launched. Tracks just sort of disappear. Zoltan Sepeshy arrived in Detroit, Michigan in 1921 wearing a sign reading: “Deliver to 209 Pasadena, Highland Park.” Immigration officials had placed the label on him because he could not speak English. Sepeshy was born in Kassa, Hungary and moved to America to live with an uncle as advised by his father. Prior to coming to the U.S., he had enjoyed a privileged existence as the only child of an aristocratic family. Sepeshy studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest and simultaneously at the Fine Arts Academy in Vienna.

If you look at Van Gogh's earlier work it looks nothing like a 'Van Gogh'. He was trying to copy the style of Rembrandt. I actually think it was quite good. When he moved to Paris he was exposed to the impressionist crowd and found his color palette. Also during this time he painted a lot of still life flowers beyond just the Sunflowers. All which I think are much better.

I grew up in an Ohio town where from our house we could hear the engine whistles of the freight trains on the main line of the Baltimore and Ohio. There was a large tract of undeveloped land between our neighborhood and the tracks. It was our wild place for playing pickup baseball, hunting rabbits with bows, and just hanging out watching the trains from the tree line along the bank.
It was the 1950s and the railroads were in transition, the steam engines still running, but the new diesels coming on line. We'd hear the hoot way off and say, "is it gonna be a diesel?" I liked the steam engines. The diesels looked to me then as strange as a cybertruck today compared to an F150. Posted by: Mr Gaga at May 02, 2025 10:23 AM (KiBMU) 266

Ford saw Wayne as the everyman. It's kind of key to understanding Wayne's films with Ford.
Wayne's characters were never grand, mythic heroes, they were your next door neighbors, just 6'4. Wayne killing Liberty Valance and getting no credit is about how the everyman built the west, not members of the elite. But the elite gets the credit in the legend. --- The Searchers. The last scene. Him, framed in the doorway, walking away. Everyone inside cheering Clift as the hero, while the one who did what had to be done, the hateful necessary things, walks away unacknowledged. Posted by: People's Hippo Voice at May 02, 2025 10:32 AM (NwfFc) True, but I think Ford's overall thinking must've been in those films that- (and it's pretty much explicitly said.) That "Wayne's time" is over. He's now the unnecessary man. That's where the tragedy comes in. There's no room for him in the new world he helped build. Not that he doesn't get credit. Interesting notion. I'm fairly sure of this - there seemed to be an acceptance in media at the time that America was moving into a less noble era.
