A single party needs 172 seats in Parliament for a majority. Labor has a lead in the counts of 168 seats. It looks like they'll have to create a coalition with one other third party to make a majority while the Conservative Party sits in second place with 144 seats. It's a win. It's a pretty strong win. But I think that the results are being oversold a bit. This feels more like Pierre Poilievre was a deeply underwhelming candidate who ran on no platform other than continuing immigration levels while not being Trudeau and giving conservative voters little reason to turn out for him and his party. Still, those high propensity Canadian Boomer-libs sure did find a reason to come out to the polls, something they were probably going to do anyway. No beginning to predict how midterms will actually turn out until September of next year.
However, I think it's important to never, ever discount the sudden disappearance of USAID and other government grants to the leftist ecosystem.
USAID alone was $40 billion. A drop in the bucket of federal spending, but roughly 5 times the box office revenue of all of Hollywood in the US last year.
Harder to create narratives with that kind of hole in the budget.

And of course here (and in Canada, much worse - and Europe, ditto) we have a preposterous crude propaganda operation called "the press" creating an imaginary universe in which lazy, tribal, bigoted, unworldly, ignorant, self-dealing voters vote (speaking here mostly of "educated" cohorts BTW).

Yes, it's astonishing that defensive voting isn't universal (vote for the pathetic but clearly preferable choice), but it isn't. High propensity idiot voters (and older cohorts typically are much higher propensity) can and do contribute to the degradation of their own societies. Canada this week a good example.
What I haven't seen, actually just a few snippets of - is good hard-core practical elections analysis of this election (how typical were turnout and results, based on recent history, actually meaningful stuff like that puts things in real perspective).
This demographic polling stuff is interesting and surely of value, but not sensing their is anything remotely surprising or anomalous in these results. Thus - the exogenous factor Orange Man Bad/Scary factor can't really be evaluated.

Perhaps because Trudeau was involved in doing shady shit for Dems as part of Five Eyes. And politically in DC, it is easier to punish Canada trying to facilitate Chinese goods via transhipment if that government is a POS Liberal government.
Some of that trade deficit with Canada was actually hidden Chinese goods sent to Canada. Mexico was doing the same thing but saw advantage in letting Trump stop that in favor of still buying from Mexico. They have their own offshoring problem with China.
In sum, Canada, like the UK are going to get pimp slapped in trade talks. Basically, no one needs them much anymore because there are plenty of vendors in other countries for what Canada sells and Canada is refusing to take US imports but relying on the US shield of protection to keep their borders safe.

I watched a few of Pierre's speeches and rallies on some Canadian YouTuber channels over the past few months.
Pierre had a good plan to help get Canada's economy moving. Opening up Alberta oil to the ocean to be shipped out instead of piped to us.
Building refineries so Canada could refine her own oil.
Opening up the "Ring of Fire" to mining to get that sector moving.
Ending the Climate regs and taxes.
Building millions of new homes and apartments to lower housing prices which are out of reach for most young Canadians.
Bringing back law & order to stop the out of control crime.
Pierre had a good plan & message.
He's kind of stiff on stage, but he's been around a long time and handles the press very well.
His biggest problem was the Canadian media, which is nearly all owned or lorded over by the Liberals. Pierre had Rebel News & YouTubers. Canadian Boomers all went left because they trust the CBC.

Yeah. There were a couple good ideas in the AofC, including much stronger states rights guarantees, but it wasn't really any better than the existing constitution in the end and was bizarrely fixated on slavery.

Not necessarily joining the US, but opening up a separate trade agreement that would allow them to develop, grow, and operate without intervention of the predominately leftist eastern part of Canada. Most are drunk and high and complain they are being mistreated as they spit , curse , resist and don't think the rules apply to them. Was stuck in Edmonton for a night by an exotic thing called "ice fog" at the airport (seemed appropriate for Canada). Unfortunately Wayne and the boys weren't in town then so didn't see a game, but did get a tour of the parliament.
It was hilarious. At the time there was a sole (1) "opposition" member. His chair sat there on the floor, opposite a huge bank of chairs of the ruling party. Suppose it made opposition party strategy a lot easier to decide.

Carney has a stark choice: he can pander to the Liberal Party's bastions in Ontario and Quebec, or he can make nice to Alberta. He gets no votes in the Western provinces outside of Vancouver. Which is why women build cultures. Men build civilization, women make it work for people, we need each other. But its useful for us to understand our weaknesses and the blind spots we tend to have.
For example men tend to be so goal and utility oriented that we'll not notice what effect our ideas or actions are having on other people. Women help us see that.
