Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | America's Hat decides to make its election about Trump because even Canadian Boomers are addicted to American news fear pronBut first, the actual results: A single party needs 172 seats in Parliament for a majority. Labor has a lead in the counts of 168 seats. It looks like they'll have to create a coalition with one other third party to make a majority while the Conservative Party sits in second place with 144 seats. It's a win. It's a pretty strong win. But I think that the results are being oversold a bit. This feels more like Pierre Poilievre was a deeply underwhelming candidate who ran on no platform other than continuing immigration levels while not being Trudeau and giving conservative voters little reason to turn out for him and his party. Still, those high propensity Canadian Boomer-libs sure did find a reason to come out to the polls, something they were probably going to do anyway. Look at that second set of bars in the X post below. 50% of Canadians over 60 said that "Dealing with Donald Trump" was one of their main reasons for voting in this election. Dear lord. Don't you people have, like, your own country? But, now that you've had your data, how about a juicy bit of anecdote? But yes, the Liberal Party won: Candian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who won the election Monday to officially replace former leader Justin Trudeau, warned that President Trump is “trying to break us.” In remarks following the victory, securing Carney a full term, he argued that Trump has “fundamentally changed” the world in recent months — pointing to sweeping tariffs and his proposal for Canada to merge with the U.S.I'm not too broken up about this. Why? It's not my damn country. If Canada wants to import the third world while selling 10% of its former exports to the world that's not the US (their economy is roughly 70% exports to us), then they can do that. Sorry good Morons north of the border. You watched us make some really dumb political choices at the top for a while, and we get to watch you continue to make some more because your olds are more concerned with Rachel Maddow's opinion of Donald Trump than your own housing problems...caused by the influx of immigration. Gotta make that GDP line go up, even that means importing hundreds of thousands of people a year who...don't contribute to the GDP. Also, here's a look at Mark Carney:

However, I think it's important to never, ever discount the sudden disappearance of USAID and other government grants to the leftist ecosystem. USAID alone was $40 billion. A drop in the bucket of federal spending, but roughly 5 times the box office revenue of all of Hollywood in the US last year. Harder to create narratives with that kind of hole in the budget. Almost certainly correct. But just a reminder of how utterly mindless most voters are. It's a perplexing miracle how the US (or any representative government system) survived for any length of time. And of course here (and in Canada, much worse - and Europe, ditto) we have a preposterous crude propaganda operation called "the press" creating an imaginary universe in which lazy, tribal, bigoted, unworldly, ignorant, self-dealing voters vote (speaking here mostly of "educated" cohorts BTW). This imaginary universe is so pervasive and effective that key elements of it are swallowed or stipulated by even the least-clueless. Happens even here, can see it frequently. Mark Steyn has a good column at his website about the nitty-gritty practical problems with Polievre - basically that he's a fairly typical "conservative" squish weak sister, who gave many little to vote for.
Yes, it's astonishing that defensive voting isn't universal (vote for the pathetic but clearly preferable choice), but it isn't. High propensity idiot voters (and older cohorts typically are much higher propensity) can and do contribute to the degradation of their own societies. Canada this week a good example. What I haven't seen, actually just a few snippets of - is good hard-core practical elections analysis of this election (how typical were turnout and results, based on recent history, actually meaningful stuff like that puts things in real perspective). This demographic polling stuff is interesting and surely of value, but not sensing their is anything remotely surprising or anomalous in these results. Thus - the exogenous factor Orange Man Bad/Scary factor can't really be evaluated. Posted by: rhomboid at April 30, 2025 02:14 PM (1m82a) 53

Canada's conservatives will never win another election. With the collapse of the NDP and their vote splitting of the liberals gone, it's a 2 party race that this idiotic country will never veer to the right. Now on day 1, Alberta is moving to separate, which further ensures liberal dominance. If my home of Saskatchewan doesn't follow suit, then you will see a mass exodus west as and right leaning individual will head for the exit.

Nine improvements Carney is bringing to a Canada near you:
Assisted suicide is now available at Tim Hortons: Americans will be so jealous of the convenience enjoyed by Canada's citizens. All parents will be required to trans their kids: . . . Double the size of Canada's military to 12: It's important for Canada to be ready in case Trump attacks. The means of maple syrup production will be seized for the proletariat: A classless society can only be established by the equitable redistribution of maple syrup reserves. Glory to the Communist Republic of Canada. Change the national anthem to "The Lumberjack Song" by Monty Python: Much more appropriate for modern Canadians. Establish a war victory monument in case Canada ever wins a war: You never know. It could happen someday. More unnecessary "u"s will be added to words: In addition to "humour" and "colour," we'll also get "elevatour," "authour," and "dictatour." Will advance several exciting new hoaxes against the Catholic Church: It's the least we can do for the indigenous peoples who came before. Will work closely with President Xi to bring Canada under the watchful protection of CCP. Posted by: Anonosaurus Wrecks, Soldier of the Persistence at April 30, 2025 02:23 PM (L/fGl) 105

Posted by: Christopher R Taylor ======= Perhaps because Trudeau was involved in doing shady shit for Dems as part of Five Eyes. And politically in DC, it is easier to punish Canada trying to facilitate Chinese goods via transhipment if that government is a POS Liberal government. Some of that trade deficit with Canada was actually hidden Chinese goods sent to Canada. Mexico was doing the same thing but saw advantage in letting Trump stop that in favor of still buying from Mexico. They have their own offshoring problem with China. In truth, I'm pretty sure Trump's economic team wanted Carney in the PM slot, and the Liberals to triumph. It makes it easy to plow right over them without worrying about manners.
Carney is going to "unofficially" try and tie Canada to the European Union. It's what he knows. It's where's he's been for the last decade. I'm betting that Carney will be ramrodding new rules, regulations, and requirements through the legislature to try and match them to the EU, which will allow and updated CETA agreement with the EU. The problem is that the western and central providences of Canada have "Sovereignty Acts" that allow scrutiny on tyrannical edicts. Prediction: Western and central providences in Canada are going to start throwing the term "Sovereign Territory" around on a regular basis as time progresses. As I've mentioned here last few days, there are serious potential negative consequences for the US in this election result (though it's not certain that, on these things, the new Libs won't be somewhat practical).
The northern border, long obviously and famously quiet and secure, is no more. Two policy shifts in Canuckistan are among the big reasons. Visa waiver for Mexicans (resulted in quick/major cartel infestation) and mass importation of unvetted/unassimilating immigrants from jihadish latitudes. This is a quiet problem that underlies Trump's immediate and surprising thrusts at Canada after inauguration. As noted the new regime up there might cooperate to some extent (border and intel services are still generally good and normal). The immigrant jihadi thing - don't see that getting addressed very much. And the other factor is the pervasive Chinese "infiltration" ($, influence, people, ownership) in Canada. It's yuuuge, the worst ever really. No chance the weird arrogant banker PM does much about that. Posted by: rhomboid at April 30, 2025 02:31 PM (1m82a) 174

Pierre Poilievre was a deeply underwhelming candidate who ran on no platform other than continuing immigration levels while not being Trudeau and giving conservative voters little reason to turn out for him and his party.
I watched a few of Pierre's speeches and rallies on some Canadian YouTuber channels over the past few months. Pierre had a good plan to help get Canada's economy moving. Opening up Alberta oil to the ocean to be shipped out instead of piped to us. Building refineries so Canada could refine her own oil. Opening up the "Ring of Fire" to mining to get that sector moving. Ending the Climate regs and taxes. Building millions of new homes and apartments to lower housing prices which are out of reach for most young Canadians. Bringing back law & order to stop the out of control crime. Pierre had a good plan & message. He's kind of stiff on stage, but he's been around a long time and handles the press very well. His biggest problem was the Canadian media, which is nearly all owned or lorded over by the Liberals. Pierre had Rebel News & YouTubers. Canadian Boomers all went left because they trust the CBC. Canada is going to learn a hard lesson like Europe, now. Posted by: SpeakingOf at April 30, 2025 02:37 PM (6ydKt) 209

The problem with OK Boomer is it’s a crutch that skips thoughtful reflection. I’m technically a Boomer, but sure don’t identify with, or think like most Boomers. It’s like saying Jews are like…, no matter what it is there are Jews that won’t fit. I really think Boomers should properly apply to the children of the baby boom following WWII, not to people born ten years later to parents who followed the war at a distance, since they were just children (applies to both my parents, although my father tried to enlist near the end of the war at age 14 by running away to the next county. Yeah. There were a couple good ideas in the AofC, including much stronger states rights guarantees, but it wasn't really any better than the existing constitution in the end and was bizarrely fixated on slavery. Alberta had exports to the US last year totaling over $160 Billion. At the same time, their production for their own country was significantly less.
I really could see a province like Alberta seceding from Canada, and becoming their own sovereign territory. Not necessarily joining the US, but opening up a separate trade agreement that would allow them to develop, grow, and operate without intervention of the predominately leftist eastern part of Canada. Canada and other countries whining about Trump remind me of the perps being booked. Most are drunk and high and complain they are being mistreated as they spit , curse , resist and don't think the rules apply to them. Meanwhile while the jail deputies ( Trump) give them every chance to comply until they have no choice but to put the spit mask on them and put them in a restraint chair. My one time in Alberta, I got to check out the CF-18s up in Cold Lake, what was cool was that they painted fake cockpits on the bottom of the fuselage (F-18s like some other tactical aircraft are very difficult to tell which side is "up" when viewed from certain angles). Think they were the only country to do that.
Was stuck in Edmonton for a night by an exotic thing called "ice fog" at the airport (seemed appropriate for Canada). Unfortunately Wayne and the boys weren't in town then so didn't see a game, but did get a tour of the parliament. It was hilarious. At the time there was a sole (1) "opposition" member. His chair sat there on the floor, opposite a huge bank of chairs of the ruling party. Suppose it made opposition party strategy a lot easier to decide. The problem with OK Boomer is it’s a crutch that skips thoughtful reflection.
I agree, but there is something to the whole generational thing as a whole. Rush Limbaugh was a boomer, so clearly they were not as a group monolithic on their viewpoints but ENOUGH were to give a general cultural movement. not every Gen Xer is cynical, distrusting, and hopeless, but enough are to give a feel for that age group.
I think the US would be open to taking this approach. Posted by: Orson at April 30, 2025 02:40 PM (dIske) Don't forget Alberta has to sign big checks to the Federal Govt that ignores their issues. The War of Northern Aggression settled the issue of secession by force majeure. I would like to think if I had lived in those days, in my native Texas, I would have sided with the North, and perhaps departed for other places. Something like what Samuel Clemens did, departing for the Northern controlled West. My ancestors on my mother’s side was all for the Southern cause, and lost their collective shirt backing it. On my father’s side the family tree ends because he was a civil war orphan, originally from Mississippi, but adopted by a family that left GTT on the post rail (Gone To Texas).

Secret note found inside violin built in concentration camp
During World War II, within the walls of the Nazi concentration camp at Dachau , a Jewish prisoner secretly penned a short note and hid it inside a violin he had crafted under harrowing circumstances — a message to the future that would remain undiscovered for more than 80 years. "Trial instrument, made under difficult conditions with no tools and materials," the worn note read. "Dachau. Anno 1941, Franciszek Kempa." The origins of the violin, built in 1941 by Franciszek "Franz" Kempa while imprisoned by the Nazis at Dachau in southern Germany, remained unnoticed for decades. It wasn't until art dealers in Hungary sent the instrument out for repairs — after having stored it for years among a set of purchased furniture — that its history came to light. Very much so, yeah. Hippies were a very small portion of the generation, but were sexy and exciting, to the media. That sappy monologue from Fear and Loathing in Los Vegas sums it up for the generation: small, hopeful, ended up doing nothing they claimed.

Look at that second set of bars in the X post below. 50% of Canadians over 60 said that "Dealing with Donald Trump" was one of their main reasons for voting in this election. Dear lord. Don't you people have, like, your own country?
-- This is astonishing to me. That they really believed Trump was going to "buy" (or whatever scenario their brains could conjure) Canada. They really are brainwashed, and the media campaign to throw a black suit on Trump, give him a Snidley Whiplash moustache and tie Canada to the railroad tracks is hilariously sad. But the country bought it hook, line and sinker. Now we'll get to witness its further erosion. Glad I'm not them. Posted by: Lady in Black at April 30, 2025 03:09 PM (qBdHI) 418

Which is why women build cultures. Men build civilization, women make it work for people, we need each other. But its useful for us to understand our weaknesses and the blind spots we tend to have. For example men tend to be so goal and utility oriented that we'll not notice what effect our ideas or actions are having on other people. Women help us see that. Yep - the Lefty-activists ALWAYS turn out. That's why I've been bitching about how the Left did not steal the school boards and the schools: school board elections usually only draw about a 5% turnout. Nonsense. Sucking up to women is one of the most repulsive aspects of western culture and probably why it's failing. Women are mimics 'I'll have what she's having' herd animals.
