I stopped buying laptops about 13 years ago. Before that my first 2 lasted 2.5 years apiece. Then I got an Asus with an aluminum body 13 years ago. It still works, mostly.

I understand there are cell phone “booster” antennas, but have noticed a problem and am curious why signals are degraded during the daytime hours in remote areas. AM Radio frequencies have much farther range at night, due to atmospheric “skip”, for example, but cell phone frequencies are a lot higher. Not sure this is a proper analogy.

As someone who uses copilot and ChatGPT on a daily basis, and many AI products generally, unless you have a job that can benefit from leveraging AI in your workflow, AI is going to be largely useless to you.

It can be easily demonstrated right now if you're a twitter/X user. Go to Grok, type in "why are black people awesome", and it will tell you. Then type in "why are white people awesome", and it will scold you. No. That's not how this works, and even ipad grandmas with their Apple stickers on the back of their Prius and other non-tech people can intuitively tell that something is very, very wrong and they're being manipulated, and people will reject it accordingly because they know it's all fake and gay. I suspect it will eventually become a cultural issue similar to full-throat MSM vs 99.9% Fox news. Unless and until "AI" is freed from it's bonds and can answer questions truthfully and correctly, it will never be useful to more than 20% of the population for anything beyond cheating at something.

Thing is AI is improving at an extremely fast pace. I asked Chat GPT a year ago how to do something in Powershell and it made up a flag on a command to do what I wanted to do that just did not exist.

Son got from the local CD and record place- a Charlie Chaplin movie, "City Lights". I had seen it before but spouse and son are appreciating it. MPPP would probably appreciate that they are watching it. I didn't know until quite a few years ago, that in addition to being an actor, director and screenwriter. I've been using Copilot somewhat on a personal software project I'm working on. It just eggs you on the current path instead of pointing out a possibly better approach. Cassettes and CDs . . . I got rid of my cassettes a few years ago when I no longer had a player in the car or a device at home to play them. And most of what I had on them were songs that I've got on CD, .mp3, or .mp4.
I have a lot of CDs still. But my computers here don't have CD drives (I think; one Win laptop might). I could play them in the DVD player through my TV, though, and in my car. I don't miss the cassettes. It's so much easier now to skip right to a song on a CD or .mp3, and to skim through the track to a favorite part. We use Copilot at work. At first I was a real skeptic but then I tried using it to write small python Databricks cells and it did magnificently. You definitely need to tell it how to do what it is it should write the code for - but its MUCH much better than having to suffer through tons of obscure Azure API/SDK documentation that is seemingly outdated the day that its published.
Also used Copilot to write the user help wiki page for the application I developed. It was super easy because I just went screen by screen through the application and gave it the same prompt on every screen. It got about 90% there and I just filled in the rest where the gaps were. Always have to check it, and in my experience the best method of using AI to code is to generate a single function/procedure at a time with very specific instructions as far as parameters to accept, return values, data types, variable names, method of looping/iteration.... if you're very specific about how to put it all together, then you get magnificent results in a very short amount of time. I am always very honest with myself. It's one of my faults. The guy hired me.
