On the tipping, i flat refuse to tip if there isn't food, or interpersonal customer service involved. Especially in states where food service people get minimum wage (Nevada).
Was forced to use a kiosk to order a sandwich, employee retrieves bag, puts it on a shelf, says nothing. My phone beeps that my food is ready. I go show the message and number, clerk spins the paysystem around and that 30% minimum tip is staring at me. I aks if tips are shared with the cooks in the back.was told no. I hit custom tip, selected zero, and swiped the card.

Another thing that drives me nuts with those iPad type cashier things is they always pop up a tip when you go to pay. If I'm at a bakery and all the person did was turn around and take a croissant off the shelf and hand it to me, you are not getting a tip.

Took the whole crew over to a bar across the street Friday afternoon.
We drank top shelf. Had to wave the waitress over every time we wanted something. Had to ask for the ashtrays to be emptied (I'm that old).
We ran a tab over $100, which took some doing then, and I left a $.10 tip.
Manager came over. I told him what I thought of the service. He comped the ticket.
She wasn't there the next Friday.

They're having that issue in DC after the mandatory minimum wage relating to restaurants went into effect. Restaurants have been adding Prop 82 surcharges to bills, in some cases up to 5% of the bill. IMHO, the "standard" tip is still 15%. So, the cost of living has gone up? It has for all of us. The meal I got for 12 bucks a few years ago is now 20 bucks. So if I tip 15%, you're now getting 3 bucks instead of two. You're keeping up better than me.

I’ve generally found no difference in baking between the two if the recipe also calls for salt.
I made some Dominique Ansel peppermint buttercrunch on Easter. Amazing stuff. The recipe called for unsalted butter and then a small amount of salt. I did the math and the amount of salt called for was the amount of salt in the salted butter I used.
If using unsalted butter in that recipe would have made it noticeably better, I don’t think I want to know.

Fingers crossed that this means the tumors are also shrinking - I will know more in a couple of days. I see the oncology surgeon in Dallas on Monday, and I have a feeling he will be letting us know what the plan will be going forward. I will see my oncologist in Fort Worth on Tuesday.

I have a very cheap co-worker. 15-20 years ago or so a bunch of us routinely walked to a coffee shop after the work cafeteria and get coffees. Mr Cheapo would pay with a check for $10 extra to have a bit of cash and still not leave a tip. Now that was rude as a customer. By that apps standards I was cheap, I think I usually left .50 on the $2.xx drink.

She said she was in a serious car wreck. "hit by a school bus going 110 km/hr", and that her kidneys had shut down as a result. She was going to die in a few days. Then the hospital released her and sent her home? Apparently the school bus driver reported a minor collision the next day. A 70 mph wreck would have done major damage to a school bus, too. I don't know who to believe here. Sounds like there may well be some false information being put out there.

Speaking of Walmart. Lately they have become quite aggressive with their demands to see my receipt before I can leave the building. I refuse to show it to them because I have zero contractual obligation to do that; Walmart is not Sam's Club or Costco.
Additionally, every second I was shopping and checking out I was under intense surveillance; if they didn't have probable cause to think I was shoplifting before I paid for my goods I am of the opinion they can pound sand once I did.

I never worked in food service, but nearly everyone I know has in some capacity. So I’ve heard stories.
It doesn’t matter what you tip, at some point in your life some guy has shoved the buns from your burger into his pants, or somebody spit in your coffee. Earning a reputation as a good tipper might help reduce the number of those incidents, but it won’t eliminate them. The guys in the back aren’t even seeing you, they’re just having fun.
And there’s the indiscriminate stuff, like the 3-star restaurant where they throw live rats into the deep fryer? How can you avoid that?

Well, WalMart has been hit hard by low-lifes committing scanner fraud at the self checkout. I don't blame them for trying to police it a bit. Usually, the guy or woman assigned that task recognizes me, and waves me through.
Funny thing happened: I bought a few things last night there, Including one of those small pouches of white chicken chunks. Which slipped out of my sight between the panels of the shopping cart, and I failed to scan it. Got everything else, and paid for it. Found it when I got to the car. And I really, really had to go home and pee, so i didn't go back in the store. But what I will do is go back there, buy one more of those pouches, and scan it twice. That will square me up.

Credit card because it is quite handy for larger expenses. Rule: I always pay it off within 48 hours.
Debit card is plastic cash because at some establishments it is just easier to go that route.
Cash is on the up swing again in my life because when I am out of cash it is time to go home. Just like in the good old days.
I do like the idea of stashing a $100.00 somewhere in the care for those moments when you need a quick $100.00.

This was built by me from an 80% lower, and upper and lower parts kits. It uses a mag well adaptor, and Colt 30-rd SMG mags. Recoil is negligible. I need to make a stock with more drop in it, as i have a hard time getting my eye down to the level of the sights.

But, yeah, they were pretty poor in the recent past. Giving them favored nation status and the WTO was a big step for them.

There's no welfare in China, so you need a kid to take care of you when you're old (not a bad thing in the US, either). There's a massive child kidnapping issue that China doesn't allow people to talk about. They're not all adopted to childless couples, of course. Trafficking for other reasons, just like here in the US.
Despair and anger drives people to plow into crowds with cars, especially crowds of schoolchildren. It's very common, so they have bollards everywhere to discourage that. Problem is, the bollards are hollow because that's how China rolls.
There's a lot of drug users.
China gives fentanyl producers tax breaks while denying that any fentanyl is made in China.
Theft is rampant. There are bars on ALL windows, even on the 32nd floor. Yes. people climb up that high. It's crazy.

I don’t know anyone under the age of 40 who actually cares that much. It’s like “Well, we shouldn’t have let our politicians and oligarchs make us dependent on them, but may as well separate while we can.”
