The Classical Saturday Coffee Break & Prayer Revival

coffeevan.png

[H/T Beckoning Chasm]

Good morning boys and girls and everything in between. Before we enter this week's Prayer Revival just a few housekeeping matters to go over. (Rulz for those of you in Spooner. Just sayin')

1) This is an open thread. Feel free to lurk, opine and/or bloviate.
2) Be kind, be nice. Even the trolls have feelings. Stupid ones, but still.
3) No running with sharp objects. No don't think about it, joke about it or do it.
4) Contrary to Rule #3, have a great weekend!

AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List

Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.

Prayer Requests:

3/24 – Update on Jewell45. Her daughter posted an update, with approval to share: "Okay. Need to do a life update for mama. She hasn’t been doing so hot the last couple weeks. Like I said last month, the cancer has been spreading. She’s been declining quite a bit since then. Her energy level is very low and she’s struggling with breathing after the smallest tasks or even if she talks too much. The decision has been made to transition to hospice care. I want to be clear here about a couple things. Number one, she is NOT in her final days although her oncologist estimates with how the cancer has progressed that she is probably down to several months, 6-9 maybe more. Number 2. She is up for visitors but not much. Please contact myself, dad or her first. She won’t last much longer than 15-20 minutes if you do stop by, so keep your expectations low. Other than that, continued prayers and good vibes are always appreciated. Much love to you all. If you have questions, feel free to contact me privately. This is obviously a difficult time as you can imagine but I’ll do my best."
4/15 Update – Jewells passed away. Members of the Horde are donating to her favorite charity; please contact Annie’s Stew for more information.

3/29 – neverenoughcaffeine had requests: 1. Baby Isaac is now at Seattle Children’s Hospital with additional issues. He’s 2 months old and has spent lots of time in hospitals. 2. Bonnie, who was just diagnosed with a cancerous nodule in her lung. Thankfully it hasn’t spread and immunotherapy will start when she receives the drug specifically tailored to her need. 3. Charlie, who suffered a nasty fall that broke his back and cracked his skull. Two brain bleeds have incapacitated him. He has a long road to recovery.
4/19 Update – 1. Baby Isaac is back at Seattle Children’s Hospital in case he needs surgery. They damaged his esophagus while intubating him when all of this started. 2. Bonnie is tolerating her medicine to treat her tumor and tires easily. 3. Cousin Charlie was flown home from FL to OH and is in rehab. He is speaking again; however he has a long road of rehab ahead of him. Thank you all for continuing to pray for them.

4/12 – Ace-Endorsed Author A. H. Lloyd requested prayers for Mrs. Lloyd, for her healing and comfort for the family, especially the grandchildren who greatly miss the woman who has been the most constant and consistent presence in their young lives.
4/19 Update – Mrs. Lloyd has spent the last week in the hospital, and it is a very good thing. For too long she had ignored her health, her diet, etc. and now she is faced with irrefutable proof that she must make serious and immediate life changes. This is a great blessing for Holy Week. Had things not happened the way they did, she might have left us quite soon.

4/12 – Intruder Driver requests prayers for friend Ron and his wife Sherry, as Ron’s Parkinson’s is getting worse.

4/12 – Sharon (willow’s apprentice) greatly appreciates prayers as she recovers from cataract surgery.

4/12 – Ben Had sent an update on Jim SND. He had surgery to implant a feeding tube, and he hopes to go home soon.
4/16 Update – After 3 weeks in the hospital, Jim SND has been released to go home. He has both a vent tube and stomach tube to assist him in breathing and getting nourishment. Jim and Iris appreciate your prayers.

4/14 – Grateful – the range bag lady posted: T-Rex’s mother, MommaRex, was rushed to the hospital over the weekend and was diagnosed with Parkinsons. The family is asking for prayers for God’s strength in dealing with the disease and challenging family situation.
4/19 Update – MommaRex is currently in a rehab facility and they are trying to find an assisted living facility for the next step. She has been blessed with good health, so this has truly thrown her in so many ways.

4/15 – Salty Dog requested prayers for his wife, who underwent triple-bypass open heart surgery on 4/9. Her recovery will be a steep uphill climb to the uplands of better health.
4/17 Update – Mrs. Salty Dog was life-flighted to KU Medical in Kansas City. They are to create a new plan of action, as there was a new issue with her heart on 4/16.
4/20 Update – Mrs. Salty Dog (Linda) passed away on Easter. Salty Dog said our prayers were answered, as she passed quickly, without pain or struggle, under the comfort of good drugs. Her last complaint was that the lights were so bright. (This was after he had closed the blinds and made the room as dark as possible.) Easter i the answer.

4/15 – Matthew Kant Cipher asked for prayers for “Dee”, an 88 year-old who has been caring for her quadriplegic son, who was injured in a car accident when he was 17. Dee had a couple of people helping her take care of him, but they are no longer able to do so. Now she is having to care for him herself, while still working as a receptionist for a local meat processing company. Please pray that the Lord provides for her and her son.

4/16 – TecumsehTea requested prayers for a grandson, age 15. The grandson had been sick with a fever and headache since 4/13, and took a turn for the worse. He was taken to the ER on 4/16.

4/19 – Eromero posted his praise for God for healing, comforting, and blessing our brothers and sisters here. He is always with us, even if we are too stressed to feel his presence.

4/20 – neverenoughcaffiene asked for prayers for a good friend who fell on 4/19. He hit his head pretty hard and has a small brain bleed.

4/22 – FenelonSpoke requested prayers for M, who sometimes fills in as the organist. He has to have vein surgery on his feet, and he needs to have his feet work well to play the organ pedals. Also, prayers for J, who is having a stent put in her heart.

4/23 – Trudy asked for prayers for her husband, Bill, who is having persistent pain that may well be heart-related.

For submission guidelines and other relevant info, please contact Annie's Stew, who is managing the prayer list. You can contact her at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. If you see a prayer request posted in a thread comment, feel free to copy and paste it and e-mail it to Annie's Stew. She tries to keep up with the requests in the threads, but she's not here all of the time, so she may not see it unless you e-mail it to her. Please note: Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks or so unless we receive an update.

2 Corinthians 4:8-9
We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair, persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed.

2 Yay! Open thread.

While the leftards fuss that Trump broke protocol by not wearing a black suit and tie to Pope-y's funeral, I couldn't help notice that their hero, the midget from Ukraine, wore a black, military-style field jacket over a black shirt with no tie.

18 Yesterday was the 55 anniversary of a horrible unsolved murder of a child that happened on church grounds, still unsolved.
Our new -this year- young parish priest got a tree planted in his honor and last night was a blessing and rosary service.
The surviving brothers and sisters family friends were there; they were very touched and said nothing like that had ever been done for their poor brother before.
Just really shows that it's never too late to show kindness to someone who experienced a tragedy.

Last night, we watched a new Netflix action thriller titled, "Havoc".

On the downside, it was filmed in MumbleVision(TM).

On the upside: It contained more violent death than ten average action movies. I think a thousand or so people were killed with shotguns, pistols, and machine guns at the climax.

No long bows were involved. Though a Spear Gun(!) was.

A whole Great Lake or two of fake blood was unleashed during this cinematic masterpiece.

Check it out.

Colored Negro Black Poor Students Homeless Addicted
Working Poor Undocumented
Unchurched
Unbanked
Urban
Immigrant
Uneducated
Hispanic
Women
Gay
Homo
Lesbo
Trans
Teachers
Educators

Marxism never ever really offers up a solution that allows the underclasses to achieve more.
It just moves wealth, power, funds, laws, land, and life amongst classes in a negative sum path.

The day of the pope’s funeral and burial marks the first day of the Novendiali, a nine-day period of mourning and prayer. Each day will include a public celebration of the Eucharist, involving the participation of a different group with links to the pontiff.

After those nine days, Farrell will convene the Church’s College of Cardinals in conclave—secret meetings in seclusion within Vatican City to pray, discern, and elect a new pope. That conclave could begin as early as the week of May 5.

I used to thing that being gay was merely one of many character traits, but I now see it as something of an obsession. If it's private, why do I need to know? If it's just a preference, why must it be public. Normal people don't wander around introducing themselves by saying "I'm really into busty blondes."

This is why I do not trust gay conservatives. The gay always is the most important trait, that's why they put it first.

By all accounts, the cardinals feel that Francis was just too much. Too exhausting. A constant drain on their energy as they had to figure out what he was saying.

They are old and want a break. Just a normal, quiet pope. Francis was a reaction against JP II and especially Benedict XVI, and he proved an overreaction.

The next pope has an opportunity to heal a great deal of schisms. The Copts, Eastern Orthodox and even much of the Anglican Communion could be brought back into the Church. I think Francis' actions have made clear that papal authority should be used sparingly, and this would sit well with the Eastern Orthodox.

Francis openly denounced the "faggotry" in Italian seminaries, so I guess that was a fail.

Francis was not the pope we wanted but he was the pope we needed. The Holy Spirit was clearly at work.

No one else could have exposed the corruption within Church leaders so thoroughly. His appointments, his allies, all of them revealed themselves, making it that much easier to clean house.

Their pride was their undoing. Thinking they had won, believing that their dream of a liberal, protestant Catholic Church was at hand, they stepped out of the shadows and stand revealed to the world.

I'm pretty sure the Orthodox position is that they were never under the authority of the Bishop of Rome to begin with, so there's no "bringing back into the church" necessary or even possible.

Now, they might be willing to be in communion with Rome, but I do not think they will ever accept its authority.

It's freaking weird, honestly. Not all churches do this, and not all groups inside a church. But everybody tends to do their own thing without realizing, unless they run into another Eastern group that teaches differently.

Basically, for some people, anything goes if it doesn't seem "too much like Rome," which is a dumb way to orient yourself if you have an ancient apostolic heritage of your own. Be "more like what we were taught from ancient times", and don't worry so much about other people.

-------
Their required documentation is supplied by the Mexican or whatever country's embassy the illegal's from. Here in KY their required documentation was nowhere near as extensive as what I had to provide. That's by design.

The "undocumented" moniker is because they did not fill out paperwork in their home country, submit it, have it authorized and then submit it at a US point of entry before entering.

Having a "Real ID" here in the US doesn't necessarily legitimize the illegals. But it also doesn't hurt.

Then a Jesuit priest knocks on the door. He's from Springhill College in Mobile.
My grandfather relents and my father goes to college on a football scholarship.
Then the war starts and because he's in college becomes an officer in the Navy which he subsequently chooses as a career and changes the course of our family and following generations.

So I'll always have a soft spot for the Jesuits.

228 The Copts, Eastern Orthodox and even much of the Anglican Communion could be brought back into the Church. I think Francis' actions have made clear that papal authority should be used sparingly, and this would sit well with the Eastern Orthodox.

I hope you're right, especially about the Anglicans; I attend an Ordinariate parish, and I would love for that to become a widespread and flourishing rite within the Church. I have to say, though, that I'm stroking out over what seems to be the highly likely outcome of Tagle taking over the Papacy, in which case we're likely looking at further liberalization towards the rainbow people and eventually even a Church fracture along the lines of the Anglicans themselves.

234 The East/West schism will remain unresolved. Too many ecclesiastical differences and the Patriarch will never cede authority to the See of Rome. As far as the Anglicans are concerned, they are in communion with Rome, though I doubt the Church of England will go any farther. They enjoy their faggotry entirely too much.
Posted by: Heavy Meta at April 26, 2025 09:23 AM (GTqXr)
---
The talks were restarted a couple of years ago under the framework of examining the historical context of their union and the reason for its dissolution.

The real issue was always Constantinople vs Rome, and that was 'resolved' in 1453. There is now disunity within the Orthodox community as the Russia/Ukraine thing has caused various patriarchies to break off communion with one another.

In this circumstance, renewed communion with Rome would be helpful because a core weakness within Eastern Orthodoxy is the tendency to place the flag above the cross, i.e. nationalism comes first.

Francis' reign highlighted the need for the papacy to remain within clear, definable limits, and this would sit well with the Orthodox, but also the Copts and GAFCON.

258 I noticed that lots of Facebook people were “quoting” the late pope, and “quoting” Bob Dylan’s supposed tribute to him.

Both are fake.

In the one, Francis allegedly says something like the rivers don’t flow to the seas just for the heck of it. They flow to help nature on the way, blah, blah. It’s written nicely, so I was suspicious. It’s a quote that was floating around Facebook and even related to a video game before Francis was pope.

The Bob Dylan “quote” praising Francis up and down is so corny it’s obviously something Dylan would never say about anyone. I know Dylan was a Jesus freak for a time, but he never even talked about that in a conventional way.

Being single and only seeing me on weekends, he took classes multiple times a week, lost weight and could absolutely demolish a dance floor. Smooth as silk.

A few years ago my stepmother was cleaning out their place and because he can't throw anything away, a bunch of it was given to me, including a super-sauve pinstripe disco suit - flared pants, vest and jacket.

"This is my lucky suit," he said. "I got lucky a lot in it." I gave it to Goodwill.

I have two suits, both in a traditional looser fit and purchased around 20 years ago.

Male clothing should drape and offer freedom of movement so that you can draw your weapon and pistol-whip the miscreant to was rude to your lady. Hard to do that in skinny pants.

Black Orchid, you'll want to get him a fountain -- one of those plug-in deals where you fill the reservoir with water, and it recirculates through a filter. It's fresher, I guess, and the movement of the water attracts the cat too. I've been giving Stirling (and Dagny, who's a girl) a mix of dry and wet food for a long while now, and the problem hasn't recurred for him. But he drinks more than he would from a bowl of water. Fun Fact - and I'm sure of this - if Mel Kiper and the rest on ESPN knew personnel as well as they claim ? They wouldn't be on ESPN. Every NFL team would gladly each pay them multiple millions to give true numeric grades on players. Each team would gladly pay a million each to get a true grade on 20 players each.

377 San Franpsycho, you once asked why everyone in Oregon seems to wear flannel shirts. Style is the reason. Tee shirt, a flannel shirt over it, and blue jeans, and you don't have to worry about fashion ever again.

I did find a solution to "finding out of style shirts at thrift-shops" problem. I remove the collars. It means I can't wear ties with them, but I can accept that hardship

380 The NFL teams didn't think Manziel was a first rounder either and they made sure that they were going to be right.

Manziel was a mess but they didn't do anything but make sure they exacerbated his issues. Besides not giving him a chance to play because the shitty coach pouted because they made him pick Manziel when he didn't want to. That same year every other QB picked started for their team even though they barely won any games.

398 1. “FRATELLI TUTTI”. [1] With these words, Saint Francis of Assisi addressed his brothers and sisters and proposed to them a way of life marked by the flavour of the Gospel. Of the counsels Francis offered, I would like to select the one in which he calls for a love that transcends the barriers of geography and distance, and declares blessed all those who love their brother “as much when he is far away from him as when he is with him”. [2] In his simple and direct way, Saint Francis expressed the essence of a fraternal openness that allows us to acknowledge, appreciate and love each person, regardless of physical proximity, regardless of where he or she was born or lives.

In my experience there are very few Elon's at the head of any organization. And those that are tend to bend toward evil.

Hegseth was put at DOD to do a relatively simple job. Stop the military from becoming a daycare for the mentally challenged, those who want this country to fail and those in the employ of Raytheon and return it to mission 1, lethality. The fact the left is coming at him with everything they have tells me he is succeeding. And he did manage to get into Princeton as a white boy from Minnesota with zero DEI points. Probably not as dumb as Susan Rice who has been wrong about everything her entire life.
