9 Watching Ryan Halls weather blog, it looks like the usual spring weather pattern. Storming in the midwest and dry on the west coast. The east gets the leftovers from the midwest. So the temp will be either snowing or a heatwave, take you pick.

I would say that it worked brilliantly for me. That I lost 120 pounds and cured my diabetes and sleep apnea. I've fallen off the wagon because I'm addicted to sugar and the rest of my family refuses to go low carb so it's always around me but it worked.

I would say that but this site is full of people who, I presume, have never had issues with their weight who'll say that it's all about calories in/calories out no matter how many studies show that isn't true and I don't feel like arguing about it.

There's a lot more info on the subject. A lot. I recommend going down the rabbit hole.

14 Found out this morning that my BIL is a leftie. Not surprising given that he spent his entire adult life in the service of the MIC and managed to parlay that into 3 retirements... good for him, not so good for us.

He decided to be stunning and brave and call for wholesale change in Congress in '26 followed by a Dem in the WH in '28. Sad.

At least I converted my wife to the path of truth (although I suspect the birth of our son had more to do with it.)

15 I had a lovely experience in going to the hospital yesterday. There was no parking in the parking garage- ( That wasn't the lovely experience- 😉 so I had to park about a quarter of a mile away) because I didn't want to wait for valet parking. I found a lovely spot under a flowering pink tree that was beautiful . When I came back there were two very cute girls ( maybe early teens) sitting on a porch at a house nearby . I said to them, "You're very cute) and they gave me big smilies and looked even cuter. No, I'm not saying this to give myself a thumbs up. It's just that even in circumstances that are difficult, you can often - if you care to pay attention - find something that reminds you are God's love and creative power and also make someone's day brighter. Someone at church yesterday complimented me and it helped to make my day as well.

42 Just read an interesting article about when companies pass the "Trust thermocline" with their customers and how it can utterly harden those customers against ever wanting to do business with them again, nomatter how much the business actually changes how they do things, or what they offer.

https://tinyurl.com/yc48jm62

Kind of echos the experience I've had with the local cable company who keeps trying to get me back, and has gotten VERY pushy at the door (to the point that the next time they show up, I'm going to inform them that they're trespassing and to get off my lawn, and if they keep talking I'm going to dial the police.) Yeah, it's gotten that bad.

Apparently these people don't understand how much they've pissed me off. They're about to.

50 My companies that breached the thermocline are Aetna and Citibank. I'm a pretty darn easygoing customer, but those two can step alllll the way off, and they were both formally informed exactly why.

One was due to a fantastically rude customer service rep. The other was due to using the money in my account to pay for services they "sold" me that i never actually bought. And then somehow managing to charge me a penalty on top of that for the privilege.

I believe you should get what you pay for, not pay for whatever you get.

55 In my ongoing battle with Capital One, they have lost a lot of my trust with this refusal to admit that the problem I'm having with their website might be a tech glitch on their end. Yesterday I called the back-of-the-card number, had my rewards, a big $11.23, applied to my balance this month, and got a confirmation email. Then I called the complaint number, and got a recording that my call was going to voice mail. I left my number (which they are *supposed* to have!), the last four digits of my card, my name, and "I would like to report a problem."

So far? No call back. Not that I expect it.

59 Hadrian, ca. ten pm to five am seems to have become my usual sleep block, with another ninety minutes in the afternoon now. Getting up at five gives me time to work out before the traffic along the boulevard where I walk/run gets too heavy during the morning commute -- and before the sun comes up, making it hot.

Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at April 25, 2025 06:29 AM (omVj0)

60 The money itself was certainly an annoyance, but it was the insane drive to get me to buy some "account protection" i didn't want or need. Over a year of spam emails, junk mail, phone calls, bordering on actionable harassment. Then they just put it on my account anyway and charged me for it.

Three times.

Are you a financial institution, or a mob?

(Don't answer that. )

Posted by: Warai-otoko at April 25, 2025 06:31 AM (kBh81)

61 And the kicker was that the thing they "sold" me that i didn't want for an account i just used to shuffle money around put me into overdraft, generating a penalty, which put me into deeper overdraft, generating another penalty.

And they acted like I was the asshole.

Decent people should be up by 5:00 anyway. It's almost like it's my favorite part of the day. No one else is moving at this time (Her Majesty would sleep until noon if she could) and the day hasn't yet lost it innocence. Could do, but the types that insist on knocking on my door would just claim they weren't trying to sell me something, and then would proceed to try to sell me something. I won't abide by bald faced liars.

Telling them they're trespassing will be much more satisfying. The only legally correct response to being told you're trespassing is to turn around and march a straight line right off the property. Anything else can result in charges being filed against you.

I use iPhones although my family doesn't replace them until the battery starts dying, usually in 4-5 years. As near as I can tell, the draw for the latest several rounds of phones has been almost entirely improvements in the camera.

90 I didn't notice this, but NaNoWriMo has shut down.

YouTube video is blaming NaNoWriMo but only for what happened in the past 16 months on its position on AI and doing zero background checks for volunteers interacting with children.

Actually dude, the fall of NaNoWriMo started during the first term of Trump when they decided to use a NON-PROFIT to rail against Trump.

92 I like some of Apple’s products but I would never stand in line for hours or days to buy anything, ever.

The longest lines I encounter these days are at the CVS, which is why I switched to the WalMart pharmacy because they have a drive-thru and I’d rather sit in the car if I’m gong to wait for some often way overpriced pharmaceuticals.

I am doing OK, for varying amounts of OK. The doctor has still not signed the death certificate, so I am on hold for a number of financial issues like paying for the remaining mortgage.

What I was utterly unprepared for is the hole in my life. We were a team. Mostly dysfunctional as I took over more and more of her care. She was very ill for so long. I saved her from low blood sugar comas 14 times in marriage. But all I could do was not enough.

But I have good friends and the Horde to help me.

No offense taken because that was pretty funny.

Another fun observation: Our newest student is a black belt in Okinawan Karate and he wanted to learn something new. Now I'm a first degree black belt which only means I'm serious about learning. When I've worked with him, I've had to correct my technique to adapt to what he's throwing at me.

Oh no, they’ve done so much more than that.

Now they have a “Dynamic Island” which is just a way to make use of that unsightly camera notch.

And the new extra “Action Button” which is for people who won’t be held back by a swipe, a face scan, and hitting one app icon to take a photo.

But the iPhone 17 Air is coming soon, and it’s going to be amazingly,,,, thin.

So thin people are worried the things are going to bend just sitting in your pocket like the iPhone 6.

2022-2023 again in the red.

But they were paying out 65% of their approx $1.5 million in annual expenses for pay and benefits.

114 SpeakingOf

Taiwan fielding nuclear weapons, on a good missile, would be a big help. Because Megacities in China are 10 megatons apart. Three River Gorges Dam is not anchored to bedrock. A catastrophic failure of that dam would release a wall of water that would doom 30 million people and some important cities.

Plus, sea drone techs are ramping up, and with enough of them, you can stop an invasion cold.

... I saw firsthand at LSI when Avago (now Broadcom) did the same thing. Productivity went thru the floor.

First, you have to understand the nature of chip design. It's a lot like PCB layout. It is typically done in dozens of steps. You may have to come back and look at the early results to determine your next steps.

If you have to be in the office, it is going to sit idle all night. When the engineers worked at home they check things all day and some of the night.
