Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Quick HitsFlorida's top Democrat state senator has resigned, declaring that the Democrat Party is "dead." State Sen. Jason Pizzo said he was stepping down as the Florida Senate's Democratic leader -- because he is quitting the Democratic Party. Pizzo, who represents parts of Broward and Miami-Dade counties, made the surprise announcement on the floor of the chamber after the April 24 session. He'll remain a senator, but as one with no party affiliation. For months, he had teased at a run for governor next year when Gov. Ron DeSantis will be term-limited. "Here's the issue: The Democratic Party in Florida is dead," he told fellow senators. "There are good people who can resuscitate it but they don't want it to be me."Former Republican congressman and hard-core NeverTrumper ne'er-do-well David Jolly is going to run for the Democrat nomination. He just made it official that he is in fact a Democrat, now registering with the party so he can run for office as a Democrat. At least he's now forced to drop the "I'm a True Republican" hustle. Last week David Hogg, a Vice Chair of the DNC, announced that the grifter group he founded would be spending $20 million to primary Democrats in favor of even more extremist progressives. The DNC plans to pass a rule that no officer of the DNC can advocate for or donate money to any candidate in any primary. Democratic party leaders Thursday morning admonished officers to not take sides in primaries, addressing a situation involving activist and Democratic National Committee vice chair David Hogg. "Let me be unequivocal. No DNC officer should ever attempt to influence the outcome of a primary election, whether on behalf of an incumbent or a challenger," DNC Chair Ken Martin said in a press call. "Voters should decide who our primary nominees are, not DNC leadership. Our role is to serve as stewards of a fair, open and trusted process, not to tilt the scales."'A federal judge has blocked Trump's executive order requiring proof of citizenship in federal elections. Donald Trump's unilateral effort to reshape election processes is an attempt to "short-circuit Congress's deliberative process by executive order," a federal judge in Washington, D.C. wrote Thursday afternoon. In a 120-page opinion, U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly blocked the Trump administration from requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote and ordering that election officials "assess" the citizenship of anyone who receives public assistance before allowing them to register. She also barred the Election Assistance Commission from withholding federal funding from states that did not comply with the order. "Our Constitution entrusts Congress and the States--not the President--with the authority to regulate federal elections," she wrote. "No statutory delegation of authority to the Executive Branch permits the President to short-circuit Congress's deliberative process by executive order."The Constitution says that citizens vote in our elections, not non-citizens. So this court is basically arguing that non-citizens can vote as they will and we need a special law, in addition to the Constitution's contemplation of only citizens voting. These abuses will not stand and will not be forgotten. The left-wing SCOTUSblog has been bought by the also left-wing Dispatch. SCOTUSblog Sean Davis I think I see the problem with the FBI.

++++ Perhaps. His assessment is likely correct, but whether it can "resuscitated" depends in part on the national party. "We Florida Democrats aren't like those crazy Washington Democrats, trust us!" is going to be a damn hard sell. Especially when Florida Democrats have been all-in on all the same stuff. I missed this: Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy clarified that the Blue Origin Hags "cannot identify as astronauts." The FAA has a definition of astronaut that distinguishes actual crew and mission specialists from mere passengers/tourists: An astronaut must perform "mission-critical" functions on a flight, including piloting the craft but also including conducting tests.
++++ It's been absolutely amazing to see Gail King and Katy Perry's reaction to this. I think they really believe(d) that they were Astronaut Heroes and are undergoing a nervous breakdowns not because they were questioned, but because they were laughed at. The somehow still developing aftermath is so wildly out of proportion to the actual even that the mind boggles. This is, I think, a signal that this is one of those things where the event is irrelevant. Tapped a deeper vein. Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at April 24, 2025 06:45 PM (WkNQM) 29

I like how it takes 120 pages to say, "the Executive, the only Branch under the Constitution with authority to enforce laws passed by Congress, cannot enforce election laws."
That's some real high-level dunce thinking there. I can imagine the headache I'll get trying to understand the reasoning. Anyway, I'm sure this stupid bitch also probably skipped right over the opinion from the Supreme Court the whole left was crowing over about a year ago out of NC, where I think this exact issue was raised. IIRC, it was the argument that we all thought was clear: Only the legislature can make and/or change elections law. But, I guess the "Covid Clause" to the Constitution says the Executive, via subsidiaries in the department of elections, can--in fact--change election laws, via nonenforcement or interpretation. Which, pretty much, fucks her silly putty ruling that the Executive can't enforce election laws. But then, James Madison himself authored the "Orange Man Bad" Clause to the Constitution so that's that. Posted by: People's Hippo Voice at April 24, 2025 06:56 PM (mmNvG) 83

Before he got atomized at -4km, Hamish Harding took one of the Blue Origin rides and repeatedly told press men that he thought space tourists should be considered astronauts. It didn't get this reaction, I think because he wasn't a celebrity and he didn't keep screaming and crying about it. He still came off as bitter about it, but it didn't elicit this kind of reaction.
A sprinkling of celebrity and being in the middle of what may well be a preference cascade makes for very different circumstances. Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at April 24, 2025 06:57 PM (WkNQM) 86

Panic ensued for some on the campus of Cal State Fullerton on Wednesday as federal agents were spotted, but there is no cause for concern. A post to Reddit on Wednesday caused a stir as a student posted a screenshot from an email from a professor. The professor canceled a class due to apparent ICE agents being seen on campus. “Class, multiple federal agents from the department of Homeland Security and ICE have been spotted on and around campus. They are said to be in plain clothes and have a K9 unit,” the email reads in part. “Out of an abundance in caution and in solidarity with our immigrant and international students, I am canceling class" The university’s police department later confirmed the existence of agents on campus. However, the department said the agents were there to conduct a training, not to investigate migrant students. “The Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Explosive Detection K9 team, which consisted of one K9 and handler, was on campus today to conduct routine training. They were not here to enforce action or conduct an investigation,” the CSUF Police Department Posted by: BetaCuck4Lyfe at April 24, 2025 07:27 PM (9aVck) 181

I’ll add that most of the counters the rogue district court judges are TROs: Temporary Restraining Orders. They do that because by being temporary, a TRO is unappealable. But they are _temporary_. In 14 days they are gone. Vanished into thin air, as if they had never existed at all. It’s a delaying tactic, and a desperate one at that. The other side is losing, and they know it. All their wicked plans are melting! Melting! Who would have thought a sweet New York real estate tycoon would be the undoing of so many wicked plans! What a world, what a world! Maybe we can take the hat?
