Open source database for people who are allergic to even the idea of running their own servers Supabase has raised $200 million at a valuation of $2 billion on the back of the "vibe coding" craze. (Tech Crunch)

Vibe coding is the idea that you don't need to know how to program to build an app. You don't in fact need to know anything at all to build an app. You get an AI to do the work based on your cool ideas, and you throw it out there and see what sticks.

Which is great if you value your own time at infinity and your customers' time at zero. Or if you are just playing around to see if an idea is feasible before implementing it properly - except of course that nothing ever gets implemented properly and you'll soon be stuck with a nightmarish mess that routes your authentication requests via Eswatini in plaintext and is written largely in a programming language that is not only no longer supported but never actually existed in the first place.

Supabase isn't directly pushing this, only enabling the trend, so I won't express a desire for them to be hit by a comet and expire. For them to quietly go bankrupt and disappear would be sufficient.

Tech News

Intel is booking capacity on TSMC's new 2nm process for production of its upcoming Nova Lake CPUs next year. (WCCFTech)

AMD and Apple are also planning to build their next CPUs on TSMC's 2nm process. Intel has its own 1.8nm - 18A - process in the works that should enter production within months, and plans to use both.
Intel is reportedly also planning to lay off 20% of its staff. (Bloomberg) (archive site)

Also none of the existing mods are supported. Oh, and you can't make new mods either.

Owners of the original version (which used less than 5GB) at least get... You'll get nothing, and you'll like it.

26 New Mexican judges...eye roll. Latest BS.

Some perp was creeping around and was confronted by a Las Cruces cop. The prep runs and by magic a hand gun appears in his hand. Cop gets it in his head this perp is getting ready to shoot him and fires off 5 rounds with one hitting the perp.

When it gets to court the judge and defense attorney watch the body cam video in slo-mo a bunch of times and conclude because the perp didn't turn around and face the cop it is suddenly a no bueno shooting and perp goes free.

The civil law suit by the perp against the cop has been filed.

At least this judge wasn't letting a Tren de Agua member live in his house and date his daughter. Extra credit: the Las Cruces judge that was doing that also supplied the TDA member with firearms. WTF?

The only people that can't figure out why NM has a crime problem are the people in government and the courts.

There was a meetup in a park parking lot after dark that involved lots and lots and lots of teen-ish people with cars and guns. At some point some chest thumping went on between two groups of them and just like that 4 of them from one group opened fire with 4 semi auto hand guns on the crowd.

The result: 3 dead and 15 wounded.

The killers were 20, 17, 17, and 15. All of them had adult size police records for crimes like assault and robbery involving firearms, drug dealing, burglary, breaking and entry, shop lifting, and smoking in a non smoking zone. They are all being tried as adults and have been charged with 3 counts of NM's version of 1st degree premeditated murder and conspiracy to commit 1st degree premeditated murder. And we still have the attempted murder charges plus firearm charges.

So far the courts hasn't kicked them loose. There is still time.

This article has a video of one the 17 yo's saying didn't do sh*t because there isn't video of him. I found it interesting he isn't screaming he is innocent. I am not sure how he is going to explain away the dozens of witnesses that saw him shooting up the park.

Not yet, Hadrian. I should have begun the process of arranging for my finances on March 1, before I retired on 3/31, instead of waiting. I'll start seeing my payments in May. In the meantime I'm taking a small vacation. The danger is that I'll get lazy and think about putting off the trip until the weather cools again -- and that won't be until December around here. No way.

There was bitching in the comments yesterday about the government banning these additives cuz the government shouldn't interfere but, of course, the additives are only in the food because the government currently permits them to be, having deemed them safe.

I'd bet that Big Food would be mostly indemnified if the additives were found harmful by the fact that the government okayed them.

The argument was that we're not being consistent cuz we want government out of our lives and the Constitution doesn't permit them to govern our food so we should oppose this without reflecting on the fact that it's already heavily regulated (just like everything else in our lives).

My latest adventure is finding my marriage certificate. I was legally married. Or so I thought. Now to find that piece of paper.

My wife wanted to be buried with her parents in St. Clair Shores, Michigan. But their graves can not be found. Not on Find a Grave, not at the church where the services were, not at nearby cemeteries.

So plan B is for her to be interned at the local VA cemetery next to my eventual spot. I have plenty of DD-214s for the VA, but no marriage certificate.

Looks like the 16e is the most reasonably priced new model available from Apple. It only costs one limb.

Depending on your carrier you might be able to get the SE for a good bit cheaper or a refurbished one if you want to go that route.

130 Martini - cutting grass was not my favorite task, but I enjoyed rebuilding a LawnBoy 2-stroke from the 70s that was a Father’s day gift. Mom thought dad deserved a new mower to go with the new house.

A straight, balanced, sharp 21” blade running at 3600 RPM. Magnesium deck, no BS add ons to add weight, very maneuverable and they made a nice cut and left a pleasing, striped appearance on the turf. I would add a small amount of Castor oil to add a little Eau D’ Motocross

I had a similar problem when my husband passed away. Needed a copy of the marriage license for Social Security but couldn't find it. Had to order a copy from the county clerk's office where we were married.

Data from Bloomberg shows that Intel went on a hiring spree during Covid but has since been trimming its workforce. Last August, the chipmaker laid off 15,000 employees, and as of Q4 2024, had about 109,000 employees on its payroll.

The incoming cuts will bring total workforce levels back to a range seen right before the GFC (2007 level: 86k workforce) —or about 18 years ago.
