1. why is @Nike funding research (yes we knew this already but here it is in the @nytimes) about how to disfigure and sterilize little boys sufficiently such that they retain male advantage but not so much that it would be unfair to girls?
2. Girls/women are not hampered or impaired males. It's never ok. The mere debate about how much impairing is the right amount is demeaning and degrading to women.
3. @Nike -- just make sneakers and focus on bringing your business back to life. This is, at best, a distraction from your fiduciary responsibilities to shareholders and divisive for your consumer base. At worst, it is criminal. It is most certainly grotesque and unethical and outside the scope of business goals to be in the business of destroying the bodies and sexual function of little boys.

In England, the Supreme Court ruled that men cannot enter women's spaces like bathrooms and locker rooms even if they have a stupid piece of paper claiming they're women.

The insane leftwing government of the UK refuses to state that they will follow the ruling. Someone leaked the WhatsApp messages of government ministers plotting to evade the Supreme Court ruling:

Labour ministers are secretly plotting to defy the landmark court ruling that men who change gender are not legally women, leaked WhatsApp messages obtained by The Mail on Sunday have revealed.
The Government claimed to welcome the Supreme Court judgment -- but the exchanges reveal the private fury on Sir Keir Starmer's frontbench, with ministers planning to hold a meeting this week to 'decide a way forwards' and 'organise'.
In the messages, sent on Thursday evening, Culture Minister Sir Chris Bryant joined an attack on Baroness Falkner, chairwoman of the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC), who earlier that day had said that the ruling -- that a woman is defined by biological sex -- clearly meant trans women could not use single-sex female facilities or compete in women's sports.
When an MP said that Lady Falkner's words were 'pretty appalling', Mr Bryant wrote: 'Agreeed [sic].'
Last night, with the Government in turmoil, Tory leader Kemi Badenoch wrote to the Cabinet Secretary calling for an investigation into a statement by Equalities Minister Bridget Phillipson, who reacted to the judgment by saying: 'We have always supported the protection of single sex spaces based on biological sex.'
In her letter to Sir Chris Wormald, who is also the Head of the Civil Service, Ms Badenoch argued that it could constitute a 'false public statement' -- because last June Ms Phillipson declared that trans women with penises should be able to use single-sex spaces.
Writing on the WhatsApp group of LGBT+ Labour MPs, Home Office Minister Dame Angela Eagle said: 'The ruling is not as catastrophic as it seems but the EHRC guidance might be and there are already signs that some public bodies are overreacting' -- a possible reference to the British Transport Police's interim announcement that strip searches of trans women would now be done by male officers, not female.
Dame Angela added that 'we have to get on with doing the stuff we said we'd do in the manifesto', which included a pledge to protect 'the freedom for people to explore their sexual orientation and gender identity'.
Another MP on the WhatsApp group wrote that it was 'sad to see some institutions choose to ignore the Supreme Court's very strong line that trans people are protected by the Equality Act too'. Dame Angela replied: 'They won't be feeling that way now and we need to remember that and organise.'

Angry mentally-ill men are protesting, defacing the statues of actual women, threatening to pee everywhere, and holding signs that say "The Only Good TERF [woman who believes that men aren't women] is a _ _ _ _ TERF." The police routinely arrest and bother people for saying things like "Speak English," but are claiming this sign, which incites trans lunatics to murder any "TERF" women who don't want them into the bathroom, is perfectly fine and legal and will not be taking action, despite the fact that the man holding this sign is perfectly identifiable in videos.

First - I'm a Capitalist. Doesn't mean I trust Unlimited Capitalism in All Ways. Because the bigger the company ( and Nike is pretty damn big ) ? 1. "Consumers" are an economic segment, not a business classification. *Economies* have "consumers." *Businesses* have "customers." Don't let them continue their dehumanizing language. You are a *customer* (or potential customer), not a "consumer."

2. I am not sure at all this is irresponsible of Nike from a shareholder standpoint. Nike targets three market segments: professional sports, amateur sports, and "lifestyle." This will improve the company's standing with the first group, is at *worst* neutral with the second group and is irrelevant to the third group. Anyone who was going to boycott Nike over this stuff already has.

If amateur and semi-pro organizations shift, that would change the math - but they haven't yet, so this is unlikely to be at all destructive of shareholder value and may actually help it by guaranteeing more orders from that second group if it continues to entrench.

I know or have known several janitors. They all state the exact opposite: that it's the women's rooms that are nightmarish as a rule.

I've heard from two of them that it's because a lot of ladies are afraid of germs, so try to sort of hover above the toilet instead of sitting on it, and make a huge mess.

Powell has cut the ECB off from easy US Dollars by jacking up the Fed rate, and for Brussels to keep things moving in their economy, the ECB has to cut rates, which creates inflation. This on the eve of printing massive amounts of Euros to fund the EU army and buying US natural gas to replace the Russian natural gas.

The Fed has a more leeway with the bettering inflation, and Powell wants to force the ECB into selling assets to keep afloat, and that means they will start selling Treasuries among other things. If the Fed buys those, it can line out the interest due. That also eases US inflation and protects the US Dollar further.

This is not a sure thin, just what I understand are some of the moving parts.

But the nasty thing I am left considering is this, and I know that it's a minority opinion: Powell isn't wrong. This is not the time to loosen and start cutting rates. Trump is wrong on this. I understand his motivation - fiscal survival of the FedGov, and it *is* that serious as a result of the debt burden - but further interest rate repression will make inflation worse and drive more, major dislocations. The bubbles stay inflated and the FedGov remains solvent for a while longer, but it comes at the expense of the real economy.

The doom-and-gloom on this probably has little to do with an "independent" Fed. The Fed has always been a political organization, but to do with potential for disruption in the most important currency and market.

Well, there you go. There is no plausible explanation for the market's behavior over the last month other than pure insanity and game theory resembling a game of hot potato.

That, plus many people don't realize that a lot of people make a lot of money on the volume of trades. They don't care much whether you make or lose money; only that you trade. And an uncertain, panicked market is a gold mine for them. A good chunk of the downward pressure of the last month is due to that, IMO.

The Fed is a cartel of the major banks with some input from the Treasury. It was established as an independent system to avoid the problem of a Central bank, like the problems with the First and Second US Banks, and still act as a lender of last resort for the US and the banking system. It has failed miserably except for the first 20 years or so, when it forgot to do anything.

Trump can't fire Powell, unless he spends a lot of political capital, and except for the interest rate which Trump hates, Powell is doing a decent job, unlike Yellen or Bernanke did.

In the end, Stablecoin based on a sovereign wealth fund is going to de-emphasize the need for the Fed, and I think everyone knows it.

Increasingly, I am of the opinion that the Executive can have an even greater result by declaring Tax Holidays.

Congress has decoupled the Debt from the Proceeds of Taxation. So, Tax Receipts are completely untethered from spending.

I can't find fault in allowing people to keep their money rather than launder it through DC via Taxation. In fact, I think it would lead to even greater gains in the Economy than Rate Cutting can.

Yes and no. The reason interest rates went to nearly zero was because the US needed to borrow lots of money, and couldn't do it with the higher interest rate, so the rate does actually matter. Part of the issue is that the Fed is tasked with keeping inflation at 2% and avoiding recessions, and it can't do both, so it tries both

Yes. It's best to think of the Fed as a government contractor, and outsource provider. National banks nominally own the various local Fed banks, and staff the local Fed bank boards, while the national Fed Governors are nominated by the President and approved by the Senate.

Powell can be fired "for cause", according to the enabling legislation, but I don't think anyone knows what that means.

I can confirm that nobody knows what "for cause" means in any situation, other than easy cases like when the person to be fired is stealing money for hookers and blow and raping little boys. But even then, there will be those who argue this isn't enough.

Nope. That flies in the face of the history of every American Industrialist ever documented. Take Milton Hershey. He founded a Chocolate Empire - simply to bankroll his ideal American city.

The idea of the Corporation is flawed. It provides a perfect bureaucratic mechanism for whomever is ruthless enough to grasp control of it to use it to his or her own ends. Without consequence.
