Wasn't the first one to blow off that year. Posted by: Itinerant Alley Butcher at April 23, 2025 10:50 PM (/lPRQ) There is a story, or maybe a legend, about the days of underground nuclear testing at the Nevada Test Site. Supposedly, a bomb was placed a few hundred feet down a wellbore, which was capped off by a round cast iron manhole cover. The test was monitored by a high-speed movie camera, the kind that could catch bullets in flight. When the bomb went off, the manhole cover appeared in one frame of the film, but was gone in the next. Based on the field of view of the camera, and the frame rate, they calculated that the manhole cover left the ground going fast enough to reach low-Earth orbit. It was never found. I had a friend, George, who worked out in a service garage at D/FW airport when a co-worker had his diesel VW Rabbit flat-bedded in because the co-worker's girlfriend filled the tank with gasoline. So they drained the tank into the floor drains and thought nothing of it, until somehow flame was introduced (i'm guessing cigarette) to the storm drain outside and the resulting flame and rapidly increased pressure allegedly blew manhole covers off all over the place. This plastics in the brain thing is concerning. The mean level of microplastic particles in brain tissue has increased about 50% in 10 years, according to testing of tissue samples from autopsies. Such tiny little plastic particles (on the order of the size of virus particles) accumulate in various other tissues as well, but seem particularly keen on accumulating in the brain somehow. Heh, I asked Grok about the Operation Plumbbob manhole cover. The estimated velocity would've been about 66 km/s, 5x earth escape velocity, or Mach 200. The compression wave in front would've been heated on the order of 10K Kelvin. That would've vaporized the thing instantly. It would've escaped the troposphere in only 0.18s, but that wouldn't been enough to prevent the intense heat from flat-out vaporizing it. Although Schussler settled on Portland cement for the construction of the dam, he was acutely aware of its limitations. His primary concern was the potential for cracking of the concrete due to shrinkage and heat buildup during the curing process. In response, Schussler developed an innovative solution: interlocking, irregularly shaped concrete blocks — 10-15 ft wide, 6-10 ft high, and 30-40 ft long, according to the HAER report. https://tinyurl.com/33j7m99k Posted by: 13times at April 23, 2025 11:47 PM (VcqK+) Posted by: GenZ at April 23, 2025 11:47 PM (/dDa4) 230

This is interesting. The microplastic particle come from two sources, so-called primary and secondary. The former is when tiny little plastic particles are intentionally used in products for various purposes. The infamous "microbeads" used in cosmetics are a big example. Secondary sources come from breakdown and degradation of larger plastic pieces. This is likely not as bad by a longer shot. This microbead use went up sharply in the 90s and peaked in the 2000s. The US and EU have banned their use in a lot of stuff, including many cosmetics and skin care stuff. I remember something about that at the time, but not the details. Red Cup, foam coffee cup, bottled water; worse, bottled soda water.
Posted by: Braenyard - s Of the three, I really never used to buy coffee 'out' so I never really drank from styrofoam; very few places I've used for take-out uses styrofoam, so there's that, too. The red cup, sometimes in college, not much after; in college, I used to carry around on my belt tied with a rope a pewter mug in case I ran into a keg party; unbreakable and damn handy. Now the bottled water. That one is a serious issue. I never used to carry around water. Now, when it gets warm, I have to have water. And since we're now a low trust socierty, no drinking water fountains. But that's the only time I drink out of plastic now. Glasses and ceramic mugs at home. Older ones, too. (Not like the new 'Pyrex' crap.) This one time, I bought a 24 (?) pack of water bottles. I didn't drink some for about a year. When I looked at the unopened bottles, the water level had decreased by a good inch or two. If that bottle's not holding in water, then what's it leaching into me? Thank goodness I haven't been around long enough to have been born attached to a water bottle. 'Rubber' hoses FTW! Waitaminnit. Posted by: RickZ at April 24, 2025 12:55 AM (gKDq2) 332

It comes as no surprise, that the same people who want to decouple the word Judo from Christian when describing what America was founded on, don’t understand that this is an impossible feat. The Old Testament shaped the founders’ worldview by providing a narrative of liberty (Exodus), a structure for governance (covenant), a moral compass (Mosaic law), and a sense of divine purpose (providence). It offered a language and logic for resisting tyranny, framing rights, and balancing human frailty with hope—ideas baked into the Declaration, Constitution, and early American ethos. While later termed "Judeo-Christian," this influence was immediate and practical in 1776, grounding their vision in a biblical heritage that felt both timeless and urgent. ... more https://tinyurl.com/2f6sh7h7 Posted by: Braenyard - some Absent Friends are more equal than others _ at April 24, 2025 02:06 AM (eY5jv) 402
Yep, this severe vs mild autism thing needs to be quantified. I've seem some horror stories of parents with these severe autism cases, which are nightmarish to deal with. Question is if the rates of that (and not just diagnosing normal human variability as some autism spectrum thing) are increasing exponentially as well. And note an exponential is the best fit for the autism rate curve. Exponentials are "slowly at first, then all at once" curve, like bankruptcy is oft described. Ciampino,
My faulty memeory says they using these chemicals as some sort of binding agent to help in the transfer into human body cells. Not a microbiolgist by any means, nor have any intention of ever being one. But the gist was, yes, the spillage was considered toxic. The childhood vaccine schedule is practically mandated if your kids go to public school, probably private to a great degree. All I know is the childhood vaccine schedule in the 1950s was far less than today. I'm not saying advancements haven't been made, but let's just say I'm very skeptical now of the FDA's vaccine approval process. Big Pharma's grubby hands are involved. They bribe the FDA to approve drugs that screw us up and needing a constant refill of drugs in the future, some newer and better and approved in the same manner. From a financial statement standpoint, it's insidously genius. Posted by: RickZ at April 24, 2025 02:42 AM (gKDq2) 421

These are immune adjuvants, the meaning of that is they stimulate an immune response that wouldn't otherwise occur. Give the vaccine (ie whatever antigen or dead/attenuated virus particle) you're trying to induce immunity alone, and nothing happens. The immune system pays it no attention. The adjuvant causes the immune system to notice. Think of it as an "irritant", something the immune system notices, and responds to. That causes it to notice the antigens, and then the immune response occurs. The aluminum salt adjuvants are about the strongest there are. And that means the immune system really, really doesn't like them and goes after them hard. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at April 24, 2025 02:48 AM (w6EFb) 423

I've had two complete vaccine schedules in my life. The first as a baby. The second when I went to Japan in '71 (Boy Scouts). Over 4 to 6 months before I went, I had to have my vaccine card filled out (at the US Public Health Hospital, with Navy doctors/corpsmen) to go overseas to the Jamboree. Yellow fever and other things I did not have to have here when I was a kid. I remember one time I got sick as a dog from one injection. But when you're 15, you get over it. Got to get out of school to get the shots though, so there was that. Posted by: RickZ at April 24, 2025 03:09 AM (gKDq2) 435
We have lived in a simulation, one created by the left and paid for by us without our knowledge. Thank you, DOGE.
Posted by: RickZ at April 24, 2025 02:15 AM (gKDq2) The toxicity of any product is directly related to the amount of money to be made by those who propose to abate it. You do not know any single person who has ever contracted asbestosis from working in a building with asbestos products in it. Not flooring, not pipe insulation, nothing. The only people who suffered from asbestosis were asbestos miners who worked without any protection from inhaling it while mining. But, the industry that cleans asbestos from your building makes more money that God to do so. Its value is in abatement, not safety. The particle size for fibers in fiberglass insulation are smaller and more deadly than anything made of asbestos, no matter how friable it might be. But, the companies who make fiberglass insulation don't want you to know that, and so there is no money in abating it. Most of what they say can kill you can only do so if you are so immersed in it you can't breathe. It is really just a load of crap. Posted by: tcn in AK at April 24, 2025 03:11 AM (a4NoL) 436

If I've got the gist of this Al-adjuvant-toxicity thing: Aluminum is very toxic to the brain. Luckily, it's very hard for Al to get into the brain. Very little of ingested Al is absorbed, hardly any at all from the gut. What little gets in is in dissolved form, Al ions. These are quickly eliminated by the kidneys, and they can't cross the blood-brain barrier. No Al gets into the brain. With adjuvants the "salt" used is not really dissolved, it's a *nano-particle*. It doesn't dissolve into Al ions in the plasma very fast, and they're too big for the kidneys to filter. The immune system goes after those particles hard. Macrophages eat them. They then distribute the contained Al in ways that get in the brain. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at April 24, 2025 03:14 AM (w6EFb) 438

Posted by: RickZ No. It was done with quiet racial apologies and manufactured guilt. I did attend Professor Longhair's funeral though, and lawd that was a Party. Posted by: Miklos has had his fun, if he never get well no mo (I'm fine) at April 24, 2025 03:17 AM (IKhKt) 439
Yes in HS we'd get boosters. The one that hurt I think was the T&B (tetanus & typhoid? B=botulism). Arm became very painful to move and some would pass out a few hours later - usually while playing sports.
Yellow Fever was only for endemic regions and East and Central Africa were it. It has now been eradicated. Posted by: Ciampino - we dreaded those shots at April 24, 2025 03:19 AM (sPQoU) 440

Posted by: tcn in AK at April 24, 2025 03:11 AM (a4NoL) Growing up near Norfolk's many navy bases, there were always steam pipes going around like a hamster tubes, about 4 feet above the ground and up and over many intersections, all over the place and covered in thick layer of asbestos. It was efficient base heating. Once the scare took hold, they were gone. Posted by: RickZ at April 24, 2025 03:20 AM (gKDq2) 441

Posted by: Ciampino - we dreaded those shots at April 24, 2025 03:19 AM (sPQoU) When I think about it, back in '71, travel to Asia, unless you were wearing Uncle Sam's fatigues, was a novelty or rarity. 16 years after the war and all that. Japan was just starting to blossom. But it was Japan. The East. Asia. I had to have just about every vaccine known to mankind, and then some, to go there.
