My friend is coming over to hang out soon.

I'll be checking later but I was wondering how much vitamin D people take. I was taking 6000 IU a day. A course I'm taking recommends vitamins and minerals from food.

Saint Fauci takes 6000 IU a day. And there aren't really issues if you are under 10,000 IU. Still, just wondering.

54 Unless you eat a vitamin D fortified product like milk you are not getting D from food. If you are in Canada you probably need to supplement from Oct-April or so even if you spend a lot of time outside with bare skin. I think there is a phone app for vitamin D by sunlight. Seems like that was mentioned in a video I watched in 2021 where the speaker was saying take D instead of getting a covid vaccination. How much D you need also varies with age and health IIRC. They can test for if you are vit. D deficient but they very rarely do test for it.

91 This week, I've been looking at Shroud of Turin videos on YouTube. Most of them are disappointing, especially those which seem to be slapped-together with AI narration.

This one is good, though. Thorough and up-to-date to the best of my understanding.

Since I first read about the Shroud, I've learned a few new things.

Most significantly, it's not just a photographic negative, it has depth which can be extrapolated. Current images of what the face on the Shroud really looked like are amazing. The one that has a moving face (like the "old paintings brought to life" videos) is a bit disturbing, a smiling Jesus with the scars and blood on His face...

The dirt, pollen, and the material and weave of the cloth all indicate first-Century Jerusalem.

The "39 lashes" weren't just with a cowboy-type horse whip. Roman scourges had multiple spiked metal balls on each whip; the scourge marks all over the body are gut-wrenching to see.

As I recall from a single source long ago, there were attempts to duplicate the image which sort-of worked, but the image always blurred when the cloth was removed.

Good evening, everyone. Tomorrow is gonna be a beautiful day. Smash has picked out a waterfall for us to ride the motorcycles to.

I really should figure a way to post photos anonymously.

Anyway....today was a good day as well. I got the olde front/rear dash cams in Smash's charger removed and replaced with current tech. Had to cut out the usb A two-wire (ignition, ground) power adapters, and splice in a new usb C three-wire power adapter (ground, battery, ignition) for both of them. Ran a new always hot battery wire for the new adapters. Had to drag my HACCO 880 soldering iron down from the office, the garage 40w chynesium soldering pencil wasn't working on the heavier guage wiring in the new kits. Got the wiring tucked away behind trim, no wire peeking out. Looks profesionally installed.

Good times.

Wine (originally an acronym for "Wine Is Not an Emulator") is a compatibility layer that allows you to run Windows applications on POSIX-compliant operating systems like Linux. Instead of emulating the internal logic of Windows, Wine translates Windows API calls into POSIX calls on-the-fly.

There is a commercial service that provides security patches to older window versions but pay 25 bux to Microsoft next fall and that gets a one year extension from Microsoft on security patches from them.

There is also dual booting of windows and Linux on the same system along with wine, virtual operating machines, containers, etc. a lot depends on the age of your programs and what they. Usually you can find out quite a bit from online forums about which programs work with which choice unless it is obscure. Lots of game compatibility info though including settings.

176 That was a valid point about US Economy being the only economy. Really, no really, sort of. But, here's what it made bounce around in my pointy little head.

Pick any nation on the planet and put that nation (with all their foibles) in the place of the US, and consider what your life would be like as they attempt to dictate that lifestyle to you.

UK would be censoring your speech and throwing you in jail for insults

China would have half the nation in concentration camps due to political opinion and religion

Saudi Arabia would have ditched the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue well before Sports Illustrated committed Harikari.

And so on.

The truth is that the best country to run the world's economy is, in fact, the US. And, we're underappreciated.

When we lived there, the Saudis were permitted to go through APO mail, and had a team armed with industrial sized magic markers who would go through every magazine and redact anything they deemed offensive. Military and embassy kids would receive Sesame street books with Miss Piggy blacked out. They would draw abayahs on Sports Illustrated models and other such magazines. You want at least 60% for a solid week or more, depending on how long those sticks dried out. Friend of mine gave me an old Partagas out of a humidor he thought was empty five years before. I kept it at 65% for about three weeks. Burned evenly and delivered nice hits of spice, and leather. Definitely past its prime, but the quality of the leaf and construction was readily apparent..

3-4lb boneless leg of lamb

Marinate in this mixture for several hours, turning at least once: (shake together in 2-gallon zip bag):
1-1/2 cups dry white wine
1/4 cup honey mustard
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
2 tablespoons minced garlic
1 teaspoon kosher salt
2 teaspoons dried thyme leaves
1 tablespoon olive oil (your choice of strength, I used EVOO)

Remove leg of lamb from marinade, but reserve marinade for gravy

Preheat oven to 425F
Rub lamb with olive oil. Salt & pepper it all over. Place on rack in roasting pan, fat side up.

Roast for 20 min, or until browned, then reduce heat to 350F and continue for approx. 12min/lb or until internal temp is 125F. Remove from oven, cover & let rest while making gravy...

Using pan juices, remaining marinade, 2 tablespoons sherry and a bit more honey mustard-- whisk together and simmer over medium heat until thickened.

250 I give Pres. Trump 2 months to crater the arrogant SCOTUS and all of the district court judges trying to flex their useless fake power. The Democrat party will be fleeing in terror.

As they should be. We need to beat them down into irrelevance like a fisherman beating a fish into submission before the filet board.

Mom's done with hers. None of us kids want it. She tried to donate it to Goodwill, and they said "nah, nobody wants that stuff anymore."

Mom only had sons. The married ones, if their wives want china, they probably want their mom's china. Memories.

There's a big age gap in Mom's family. She's the oldest, the youngest is 15 or 16 years younger, or something like that. Maybe one of the girl cousins from the younger aunts and uncles would want it someday, since it was Mom's Mom's.....

267 "Maybe one of the girl cousins from the younger aunts and uncles"

English is weird. Why do we have gendered and non-gendered words for some relations:

parent-mother-father, sibling-brother-sister

But only gendered ones for some others:

?????-aunt-uncle

And only neuter ones for other others?

cousin-?????-?????

Thinking cousins also... 2nd cousins, actually. 2 girls, maybe one is interested in grandma's (their g-gma's) china.

I have one very young nephew. No others. Maybe, if I live long enough to see him marry, will offer Mom's (his gma's) china & silver as a wedding gift?

277 Some of the old furniture is chunky and ugly but when restored mahogany and walnut look fantastic. The finishes on the old stuff turn a noxious yellow-green or orange-brown and the only way to fix it is to strip it.

I have an old Cushman set: 2-chairs plus magazine rack/side table, that are a *horrible* orange color! And, I think that was the original color? Ugh!

One chair has a split in the seat. Repairable, if one knows what they're doing (not me, of course!) and that's just another bit of the pile I must dispose of...somehow, somewhere...

289 Dad found one of these for Mom-- for their 20th anniversary... No matching bench, however...

Mom stripped & refinished it. Had the action rebuilt, replaced the chipped keys (and kicked herself many times over, for not coughing up the $$$$ for Ivory/Ebony, but settling for plastic)

It's still beautiful!

293 Mom took her sweet time with the piano. I remember helping her scrape (carefully!!!!) the old finish off, when I was a teen.

I want to say, that it took a couple of years for her to complete that project. It was a labor of love. She played and enjoyed that piano for decades.
