The Classical Saturday Coffee Break & Prayer Revival

suburban-men-rise-and-shine-outdoors-camping-hiking-hunting-fishing-20221228-124.jpg

Good morning boys and girls and everything in between. It has been a sad week here at the Horde family. It's a good day to be alive.

Before we enter the Prayer Revival just a few housekeeping matters to go over. (Rulz for those of you in Spring Green)

1) This is an open thread. Feel free to lurk, opine and/or bloviate.
2) Be nice, be kind. And no you can't tie your younger sibling up with zip ties.
3) No! Don't even think about it! No running with sharp objects.
4) Have a blessed Easter.

AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List

Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.

Prayer Requests:

1/18 – Jrgunn77 requested prayers for health, which was fine a few months ago, but recently has been his with extremely high BP spikes, anxiety attacks, constant headaches, and hernia troubles. Jrgunn is on meds for the BP and anxiety, scheduled for a colonoscopy, and has referrals for a cardiologist and neurologist. These out of the blue anxieties are the worst. Jrgunn also asked for prayers for a friend from church, Rodney, who has recently suffered lung failure and is on oxygen, to come home from the hospital, and Pastor Ben and his brother, for comfort after the passing of their little sister from drug addiction.

3/8 Update – Pneumonia has cleared, and the neurologist is treating him for Parkinsonian tremor. The CT scan showed 3 hernias. The BP, head pressure, and physical strength is better and he was able to work a couple of hours. Rodney is awake, but has intestinal bleeding. They are still waiting for test results, and if they are bad, he will be knocked off the transplant list. He’s still on 100% oxygen.

3/8 Update – Lester Fahrner posted that BP spikes and anxiety needs lab and urine tests for carcinoid tumor and pheochromocytoma.

3/15 Update – Rodney was placed on the official transplant list on 3/12. On 3/15, he received donor lungs during a 14 hour surgery. Now prayers are for his recovery and for God’s provision for the avalanche of medical bills.

1/31 – Bif Bewalski gave an update on Smash. The blood work confirmed that she does not have pancreatitis. They gave her fluids, 3 types of digestive system meds via IV, and then ignored her for 8 hours. Anyway, she is home and feeling better.

3/22 Update – They are going to run an upper GI series of tests to confirm whether a previous surgery has allowed fluid to settle onto the upper stomach, causing all the issues. Then Smash got the flu, which turned into pneumonia. On the mend now.

3/1 – antisocial justice beatnik would appreciate some prayers for Mom, who is continuing to suffer terribly from a botched medical procedure back in mid-Dec. Mom was rushed from her rehab facility to ER on 2/28, then back to the hospital that botched her care in Dec. Antisocial justice beatnik and Dad are doing their best to support her and each other, but Dad has his own existing medical issues to worry about, and AJB’s FMLA is running out.

4/5 Update – Mom has not made much (if any) rehab progress. While her current facility is much better about pain management, her bed sore pain remains a major impediment. On the plus side, her bed sore is slowly improving and doctors have decided she no longer required antibiotics for osteomyelitis. She’ll soon be transferred to yet another facility for rehab. Antisocial justice beatnick is planning to take up the DOD “Deferred Resignation Program”, which will allow for continued care for the parents while figuring out what to do for a new career.

3/1 - thefritz requests prayers for his friend Jeff, his wife, and two children. Jeff’s pancreatic cancer has spread to his liver. They have stopped chemo and moved him to home hospice.

3/17 Update – Jeff succumbed to pancreatic cancer on 3/16. Please pray for his wife and two grown children.

3/8 – Misanthropic Humanitarian offered a prayer. “Dear Father, Thank you for sparing Donald J. Trump’s life in Butler, PA. Thank you for a President who loves his country and is trying to do everything he can to improve our citizens lives. We often come to you with our troubles and not to you as often as we should

when we should be thankful. We pray through Your Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.”

3/8 - Tonypete asked for prayers for K and Mr. X. K started dating Mr. X, and he is a very nice gentleman, but he mentions his late wife in every other sentence. It’s starting to wear on K.

3/8 – Ben Had asked for continued prayers for AZ deplorable as he works to get his strength back.

3/22 Update – AZ deplorable moron reports that he is on the mend after the stroke. His left side is still not up to snuff, but he is working on it. Thank you all for your prayers.

3/8 – Retired Buckeye Cop asked for prayers for his younger brother, J. He has been a police officer at a local Catholic university for 26 years. Due to internal politics, the police chief has informed J that his position (Captain) is being phased out as of 6/30 and he needs to seek employment elsewhere. May J find a new job soon.

3/8 – Piper asked for prayers for a close friend who has breast cancer. It’s already at stage 3 when it was discovered. She has chemo, surgery, and radiation coming up. She is a mom, with a son age 12. Her husband is being a trooper, but it’s hard.

3/8 – Cosda posted good news. Two years ago, we prayed for a sister who had colon cancer and was undergoing surgery and chemo. That was successful. On 3/7, her checkup showed that she was still cancer free. Thank you for the prayers and thank God for the healing.

3/13 – Teresa in Fort Worth’s health continues to improve with her cancer treatments. Her CA19-9 results continue to go down, which is great news.

3/15 – Grammie Winger updated that Rev is still weak, but he is eating and his spirits are good.

3/15 – Fenelon Spoke requested prayers for the daughter of their beloved, retired, organist. The daughter is a dear woman on her second bout of cancer and is having treatments. Thanks so much!

3/15 – Smell the glove sent thanks for the prayers. The aunt is doing well with her treatment for colon cancer.

3/15 – MkY asked for continued prayers for his wife, Judy, who was diagnosed with stage IV renal cancer 2 months ago. She is getting immunotherapy, along with another drug that is supposed to enhance immunotherapy. She is very weak, and they don’t know if the various issues she is having is due to the cancer(s) or the drugs. Probably both. In early April, she is due for another CT scan with contrast (which hurts). If the tumors have not shrunk, they will probably start alternative therapies.

3/20 – L asked for continued prayers for her daughter, Shannon. She is the Franciscan sister, who was traveling to Cleveland for surgery. The operation was a success! It involved replacement of two valves, and repair to aortic aneurysm. The surgery was 3/11, and she was released 3/18. She is staying with her aunt, a retired nurse, this week, and will go to her sister’s house for continued recovery next week. L and her husband have not seen her in person, since they came down with a bad flu, but have visited via a video call, and can see improvement. L sends her thanks for the prayers. Shannon appreciated it, L appreciated it, and it helped keep them all calmer.

3/22 – Eromero could use prayers. He was in ICU with double pneumonia, but is improving and out of ICU now. He is on a pegtube the rest of his life.

3/29 Update – Eromero sent his thanks for the prayers. He is in p/t, o/t, and eating real food, though mashed unrecognizable. He expects to be in for another 7-10 days. He also asks for the Lot’d blessing on

all here who need physical or spiritual healing.

3/22 – vmom deport deport deport asked for prayers for her husband, because layoffs are expected at his company soon.

3/29 Update – Hubby is still working – the company laid off a bunch of employees but not him. He is hoping to hang on at least another year.

3/22 – screaming in digital got her mom moved into assisted living on Tuesday. There have been some rough spots, and no doubt will be more, but she is doing better than they dared hope. Many thanks for your prayers.

3/22 – J.J. Sefton posted that his latest MRI indicated no new tumor growth and the surgical wound is healing nicely. He took his final chemo pull last night, so fingers crossed, he thinks he is in the percentage of glioblastoma patients that ultimately outpace recurrence by greater than the expected timeframe. MRIs now every two months for the rest of his life. God bless you all for your prayers and kindness.

3/24 – FenelonSpoke requested prayers for a young friend, “C”, who was just in the hospital, probably for depression. Fen doesn’t have all the details yet. “C” has the intense job of being an addictions counselor and is a very bright, caring RC woman. She needs healing and the rough places made smooth. Thanks very much.

3/29 Update – Thanks so much for the prayers. “C” is out of the hospital and doing much better.

3/24 – Mister Ghost posted “Hospitals can kill you. Prayers are much better. I am stuck in a hospital in the Boston area for the 8th straight day and am starting to look like a concentration camp survivor. This is brutal and if there’s anyone who could say a prayer for me, I would be eternally grateful. Prayers carry a great deal of power. I’m not as sure about modern medicine….”

3/24 – Update on Jewell45. Her daughter posted an update, with approval to share: "Okay. Need to do a life update for mama. She hasn’t been doing so hot the last couple weeks. Like I said last month, the cancer has been spreading. She’s been declining quite a bit since then. Her energy level is very low and she’s struggling with breathing after the smallest tasks or even if shes talks too much. The decision has been made to transition to hospice care. I want to be clear here about a couple things. Number one, she is NOT in her final days although her oncologist estimates with how the cancer has progressed that she is probably down to several months, 6-9 maybe more. Number 2. She is up for visitors but not much. Please contact myself, dad or her first. She won’t last much longer than 15-20 minutes if you do stop by, so keep your expectations low. Other than that, continued prayers and good vibes are always appreciated. Much love to you all. If you have questions, feel free to contact me privately. This is obviously a difficult time as you can imagine but I’ll do my best."

3/24 – Ellipse (“…” asked to enlist the prayers of the amazing horde, for a good friend’s wife, who is in need of a rather sudden biopsy.

3/27 Update – They are waiting on results from a mass that was somehow missed last month on a mammogram. They are understandably very scared and won’t know until 3/31. She has other symptoms too. The kids are older but not grown.

3/27 – Cosda asked the Horde to keep his wife in their prayers. She recently had a mole removed from her thigh and the biopsy report came back this morning as melanoma cancer. They will be seeing an oncologist the week of 3/31.

3/27 – Sponge sent an update. “Thank you, all of you, for your thoughts and prayers for the First Lady during this ridiculously difficult journey the last several months. Your kind words and heartfelt prayers

really made a difference for her and we're eternally grateful for it. God is great and we've crossed over what should be the final big hurdle in this battle. She's over the moon excited and is feeling incredibly blessed today. God Bless you all and thank you so very much.”

3/29 – FenelonSpoke asked for prayers for “C”, the father of a friend. “C” has to have a benign tumor removed, which is pressing on his spine and making walking difficult.

3/29 – neverenoughcaffeine had requests: 1. Baby Isaac is now at Seattle Children’s Hospital with additional issues. He’s 2 months old and has spent lots of time in hospitals. 2. Bonnie, who was just diagnosed with a cancerous nodule in her lung. Thankfully it hasn’t spread and immunotherapy will start when she receives the drug specifically tailored to her need. 3. Charlie, who suffered a nasty fall that broke his back and cracked his skull. Two brain bleeds have incapacitated him. He has a long road to recovery.

4/5 Update – 1. Nothing new on Baby Isaac. 3. Charlie is speaking, but not easily. He is hoping to return to his home in OH the week of 4/7. Your prayers have helped. Please keep them coming for Charlie, Isaac, and Bonnie. Thank you.

3/29 – FenelonSpoke requested prayers for “J”, the grown son of a friend who is back living with his parents. He is having some mental health issues and other unspecified problems. He needs healing and rough places made smooth. Thanks.

3/29 – Our Country is Screwed asked to be kept in our prayers as he starts his chemo regimen this week.

4/1 – Sock Monkey’s family experienced a tragedy, and needs prayers. His brother-in-law and friend chose to take his own life, in a moment of despair. Please pray for Sock Monkey’s sister-in-law, their 5 children, and their beautiful granddaughter, as they grieve.

4/5 – Quarter Twenty posted his appreciation for God’s peace through treatments and surgery on his right eye. He said God has provided abundantly! He has been working to memorize Hebrews 13:20 “Now the God of peace ….”

4/5 – Tonypete humbly requested prayers for his most recent grandson, who arrived early. He was 3 pounds plus a few ounces at birth. He and his Mom are doing well and Mom was discharged from the hospital. Baby boy will be staying at the NICU for a couple of months.

4/5 – John the River asked for prayers for a friend he’s never met, Michael, who was a visitor his blog. Michael is having serious cardiac issues.

4/5 – rhennigantx asked for prayers for his daughter. She has GI issues over pain and nerve damage drugs. She was kicked out of her PhD program by lying liars that said the email they sent her that said she could sit out a semester as the class she needed was not being taught, said that they never wrote that email.

4/5 – screaming in digital requested prayers for all the Horde in need.

For submission guidelines and other relevant info, please contact Annie's Stew, who is managing the prayer list. You can contact her at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. If you see a prayer request posted in a thread comment, feel free to copy and paste it and e-mail it to Annie's Stew. She tries to keep up with the requests in the threads, but she's not here all of the time, so she may not see it unless you e-mail it to her. Please note: Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks or so unless we receive an update.

15 One of my favorite parts of Easter is that Nicodemus helped bury Jesus.

All the disciples had fled, and Nicodemus had more to lose than maybe anyone, and he still stood up and did that.

16 Mrs. Lloyd has spent the last week in the hospital and it is a very good thing. For too long she had ignored her health, her diet, etc. and now she is faced with irrefutable proof that she must make serious and immediate life changes. This is a great blessing for Holy Week. Had things not happened the way they did, she might have left us quite soon.

It has been difficult for the household to carry on without her, but - yet again - God had this all planned out. My youngest, whose primary activity hitherto was gaming all night on the computer, has stepped up and become a responsible adult, taking on chores without my asking, and watching the kids so that I can remain at work.

Strange to say, I haven't slept this much or this deeply in a while. As soon as the kids are in bed, I crash out, and wake refreshed. For obvious reasons, I could not attend the Good Friday service, so I prayed the Rosary instead and after some chastisement, the kids settled down and listened to me pray. Tomorrow my father will visit us for the first time since Covid, which is going to be great.

23 Kenneth Branagh was excellent as Charles Dickens. Story plot is about Dickens writing a lifebofbJesus for his kids/ which he did. He starts narrating the story and he and his son get involved in the Biblical story.

24 Mrs Cop likes to watch that gender-bending new "Matlock" TV show. She was watching a recording of a recent episode and one of the plot points caught my attention:

Pregnant woman shows up at the legal office late at night and needs a divorce within 3 hours. Because verbally abusive husband is going to make his wife have a C-section. Um ... okay ... I thought C-sections were usually performed in extremis and the mother doesn't casually stroll-in at Zero-Dark-Thirty.

The scene that clenched that the husband was a bad guy was the pregnant THOT character saying "He wan'ts to have the baby .... *gasp* ... baptized without my permission!!!!"

Somehow, I don't think the script writers are a bunch of Anabaptists. Interesting that a TV show took time to tell the viewers that infant baptism is a bad thing.

For a bunch of people that tell us that the supernatural does not exist, they sure spend a lot of time trying to suppress it (see: silent prayer forbidden in vicinity of UK abortion abattoirs.)

Watch it because he makes some great points and has some fun comedy in it, but even shorter version for those reluctant to watch is roughly "If you arrive at the Pearly Gates and are asked "Why are you here?", any first person ("because I") response is wrong."

Worth the four minutes.

I entered the Church almost 20 years ago, but it is only in the last five years that I have truly appreciated the spiritual side of the faith, the reality of angels, demons, and the visible effect they have on the world.

That einstein quote is "questionable" or "unsourced" or something similar. No one is allowed to believe anything interesting or fun any longer.

We'd run across that same thing recently regarding Shakespeare helping translate the Psalms. Oh no, he didn't do that!!! You're a fool to believe that!!! Even though the dates, his service to the king, etc line up.

"Despite the skepticism, the idea persists among some enthusiasts" is what you see.

Funny how that only works for stuff like Christianity and not things like Global Warming or EVs.

The Epistle to the Hebrews has specific references to Maccabees. The only Bible that I've found that actually makes the connection is the Oxford Annotated Bible published about 1977. While not a Catholic Bible, the Oxford Annotated has some good footnotes explaining word-forms and variants.

Ironically, the footnote in "Hebrews" has to explain to the reader what the Books of Maccabees are -- since Luther removed them from the Protestant Bibles.

Posted by: Soothsayer at April 19, 2025 08:43 AM (9Isye)

61 Nicodemus, while having benefited from the trappings of power, was more intellectually honest than the rest of the Pharisees, obviously. He struggled with maintaining his own stature, as opposed to serving God’s purpose. He is the only Pharisee who tried to understand Jesus (secretly). In his questioning, at least according to the Gospels, especially in John 3, Nicodemus left little doubt that Jesus “came from God”. He carefully chose his moments of “defiance” to the other Pharisees. Even the preparation of Jesus’ body for burial could be seen as complying with Jewish custom. But there is no doubt a very stark difference between his interactions with Jesus, as opposed to the others who for example even after the crucifixion went to Pilate and wanted guards posted at the tomb (Matthew 26:63).

Einstein is also the guy that, occasionally, would leave his apartment before remembering to put on pants.

Personally, I'm decidedly undecided. As CDB wrote, there's some things in this world you just can't explain. Are they the result of angels and demons ? Another plane of existence ? Ancient Aliens ?

I don't know and never will. Don't trust anyone else that's certain in what I see as the unknowable. Maybe some things are not of this world, and others simply not of our current knowing.

Maybe the truth lies somewhere between nothing is a miracle and everything is.

Update on my wife.

She had a quiet night, and is getting better from the events of yesterday.

She was much improved, complaining about her situation to me, like why can't I sit up?, which is a sign of normality. The medical team was going to remove a blood pressure support pump this weekend, then she could safely sit up.

Got her Sudoku from the car, and let her rest before dinner. Small portions of some nice food like salmon. Worked on my story from a chair in the corner of the room.

Then alarms went off. Her heart went into afib. People streamed into the room, working to get her heart back. The crash cart showed up, and shock paddles were placed. Stay with us [Mrs Salty] was the chant. 12 people, including her high-powered doctors, in the room. Clear. Shock. Her body jumped.

Heart back in rhythm, but now more time needed for stabilization.

it IS law, because the governor- a notorious sodomite- signed it into law.

And while it doesn't outlaw certain firearms, the bill does make it a supreme PITA to acquire one. You have to take and pass a training course, pay fees, then hope your local county sheriff gives you a literal permission slip to take to the gun store.

I'll believe the first state that is serious about such limits when they show the intellectual consistency to apply the same ban to all state and local law enforcement as well as any private security contracted by state or local government.

If John Q Citizen doesn't "need" a semi-auto sidearm with a 10 round magazine ? Then neither does Johnny Law.

116 Over the past few years I have cut most negativity out of my life and tried to replace it with good thoughts. This has all but eliminated most of my web browsing, checking the news, and now it's also impacting my religious reading.

I've noticed that there are a subset of Catholics who are not pure Never Trumpers, but very close. That is to say, they are not willing to reverse previous positions to oppose Trump, but instead nit pick every good thing he does and either follow it with a "whatabout" or declare that whatever good came was accidental, it was implemented wrongly, etc. Not only do they denigrate him, anyone who supports him, however tepidly, is denounced as a cultist.

The next time I encounter one of these creatures, I shall ask them: Do you want Donald Trump to go to heaven?

Their answer shall call out their sins.

117 it IS law, because the governor- a notorious sodomite- signed it into law.

And while it doesn't outlaw certain firearms, the bill does make it a supreme PITA to acquire one. You have to take and pass a training course, pay fees, then hope your local county sheriff gives you a literal permission slip to take to the gun store.

The state also levied an excise tax on ammo, above and beyond regular sales tax.

I have 5 handguns that are grandfathered in.

She has a lot on her plate. I'm losing patience with people who think she can wave a magic want and convert the entire DoJ in to loyal, efficient employees who would never, ever tank a case "by accident" or otherwise slow down the Trump agenda.

They have to move slowly, and pick small fights so that the traitors can be identified and removed. That fact that Trump had years to vet his folks and a few rats managed to burrow in speaks of how difficult this task will be.

It is a patient, intelligent strategy that is probably their best option at this point. American institutions need legitimacy to function, and at this point is the left that is behaving exactly as they characterize Trump - impulsive, out of control, criminal.

This is the last chance for the Republic. Trump's people know this, and they also know that if things go "hot", the work they are doing now will give them the upper hand in terms of legitimacy both at home and abroad.

I also think we need to have perspective. Trump has done more in 3 months than GOP has in 3 decades. He is also moving to lock in these gains and I notice that every single legal move the left makes is immediately countered.

Roberts is running out of cards to play.

Given that "We are going to have to kill them" career-limiting screed that was posted a few days back, I find it interesting that the Left sees the 2A as purely in an offensive role; that is, they love guns when it comes to killing people they want killed or to advance their cause of destroying Western civilization, but is the end of the world and must be stopped by any means if someone considers the use of a firearm for recreation, sport or self-defense.

174 When my wife gets out of the joint, I'm getting her a Hallow subscription. One of her problems was that she was addicted to news apps and social media, and this filled her mind with negativity and doom.

I'm happy to pay a fee to push that out and substitute prayer and joy instead. Perhaps because I bought stuff from online Catholic vendors, my email gets a stead stream of newsletters and updates from Catholic media. It was annoying at first, but now I anticipate it because there's a lot of great news out there that we need to know.

I mean, Christianity is actually growing, even in Europe. We are constantly told the future is gay and trans, but it isn't, and people are speaking up ever more confidently about it. I loved that the Satanic ritual in Kansas was broken up by a Catholic who stole the Host before it could be desecrated, and than another snatched the ritual script, provoking an attack that ended the gig.

This is how it is done. No more nice.

I'm too lazy to look this up, but how long has the anti-Tesla terrorist campaign actually lasted? When was the most recent incident?

Maybe the media dropped it, but it seems to me that once the arrests started to pile up and Bondi was announcing no deals, 20-40 years in prison, enthusiasm dropped considerably.

People respond to incentives. For too long, leftist violence has been cost-free. Now that costs are rising, I think their behavior will be modified. I'm also noticing that school shootings seem to be getting pre-emptively stopped by timely arrests, as if the FBI was now doing its job.

A lot of stuff is going to come out. Not tomorrow, not next week, but it's going to do so and this is why the left is going bonkers because they know what they did.

I've been saying this for years, rightwing conspiracy theorist that I am, but if you look at what's going on in Europe and more specifically the UK that is exactly where we were headed. The process was being developed and implemented to make the US a one party state and those of us not in the party essentially domestic terrorists. No free speech, no 2A, our views essentially being outlawed as domestic terrorism, etc.. And they were well down the road implementing it.

Illegals were an essential element to that plan just as they are in Europe. An open borders paradise ruled by a bureaucracy in league with like minded bureaucracies around the world.

The UN, the WEF, the Club of Rome, all globalist organizations have been preaching this for years. All you had to do was listen and watch. This was no ordinary election. We came this close to losing the country. Going to take a bit of time to undo all the damage.

204 Good morning coffee and prayer people.

Imagine that Saturday after the crucifixion. There were some who heard, understood, and believed Jesus when He said He would rise again, but His trial and crucifixion left no doubt that He was not just dead, but brutally tortured to death and entombed. How desperately sad it must have been, how hard to believe even if you understood that He said He would be back. And how terribly lonely to be in a world suddenly without Him.

Those who had expected, especially on the day He rode into Jerusalem, that the day had finally come when He would become King and overthrow the Romans must have been especially crushed and despairing.

Ironic that the Jewish leaders knew well that Jesus had said he would rise again and implored Pilate to seal the tomb, and guards were set on the guards. They thought they had finally successfully rid themselves of that troublesome preacher and his fanatical followers.

The darkest of days.

The price is already building, which is that the federal dockets are clogged with meaningless cases and all of these TROs - which are supposed to be used rarely when the case is almost certain to succeed on the merits - are totally discrediting the judicial system.

You can't play the "OMG Trump violated the Constitution! It's a crisis!" card when it happens every day and then is always rolled back. Getting TROs vacated by higher courts is a terrible, terrible look. Roberts' strategy was clearly to let these things fall without SCOTUS, and to quietly tell the judges to drop it, but they won't listen.

And the ultimate price is that Trump will - at a time and place of his choosing - find a ruling so stupid, so completely at odds with historical precedent and the Constitution itself - that he will defy SCOTUS and massive majorities will cheer it.

The Judiciary relies on the Executive to make its rulings stick. Roberts is playing with fire.

But since the players cannot be considered actual students anymore that's slipping away as well, and with the "portal" allows the spoiled children to skip from school to school, allegiance is all but gone.

Long way of saying we're giving up MSU season tickets for football this year, ending a 50 year tradition.

It's one of those things that is ultimately irrelevant. You don't need to talk to have each other's back. If you're friends, you know what he's going to do without lots of text chats.

I'm not really worried about it because larger forces are at work.

That was always the problem with this strategy. It assumed Trump would immediately get frustrated and create a crisis, but he's patiently chipping away at it. The "walls closing in" are made of paper mache and everyone knows it. In the meantime, the border is secure and deportations continue.

The threat of ruinous fines, loss of property, and now raids on businesses who also face severe penalties are having their effect as well.

To put it another way, the entire judiciary strove mighty to save Maryland Man, and all it got was a margarita photo op.

Well the letter Martin sent was only a couple of days ago. And Martin hasn't even been officially confirmed yet. Democrats are holding up the hearing. That's part of the problem.

As noted above by AH a DOJ lawyer helped start this immigration legal fiasco by essentially throwing the case in court. He was later fired. How much of that was by choice? The job market was a wreck under Biden, with almost all the new jobs going to foreigners. That is now changing.

And the electronics factory question was moot, because there were so few factories. People grow up and parents get tired of subsidies.

It was a comedic bit. Maher is - wait for it - a comedian. Obviously he doesn’t proclaim to be an expert in staffing. Just like when Jerry Seinfeld made jokes about airline food. He didn’t spend time investigating how airline food procurement works. It was funny though because everyone could relate to the joke which was based in truth.

I said initially there is a hint of truth to it, as with all comedy.

Gretchen Whitmer actually had to support Trump because the auto industry still has huge influence in Michigan. The UAW has been a sink of Dem corruption from its beginning, but now the leadership is going to be forced to change sides.

So will the Teamsters. Trump is bringing them jobs, the jobs they lost are coming back, and all the Dems have to offer is trannies and crying for illegals.

This is a seismic shift. Michigan could very realistically go solid red as the factories take on extra shifts.

The absolute fealty to Israel is off-putting. For the record, I'll buy into stories of Israel targeting the civilians as soon as someone can produce a uniform and rank insignia guide for Hamas. How do I tell a colonel from a corporal?

Oh, that's right, they look like everyone else. So there are no civilians. Cool.

On the flip side, Israel is a secular state, not the successor to the ancient kingdom. That's not me talking, that's them. Legitimate criticism is therefore on the table.

Generally, no one has argued realistically against Israel's attempt to destroy Hamas. It's not working, but no one says they shouldn't try.

The problem is their official position on killing civilians when Hamas is around them. That's it. That's the extent of it. The belief that intentionally killing civilians to get at Hamas is a war crime.

Having worked with factory workers, but not being one myself while doing so, such jobs indeed were repetitive and too often boring, but at the time (forty years ago) they were an outstanding opportunity for members of a workforce that typically had stopped going to school after completing high school.

I know circumstances today have made such work less available and quite possibly more onerous.

My dentist in Waynesboro, VA once asked me about hiring on with the Lycra(TM) spandex business there. After a question or two, she informed me that she was interested in becoming an operator on the spinning room floor, and not someone in line or technical support. I was flabbergasted and I told her that she really ought to think things through before taking such a drastic step.

No, that's not true. There is no thread connecting what is going on today with some precursor struggle in something B.C.

Industrialization is an interesting thing, some cultures were unable to make the leap to industrialization, and some took a long time. The first barrier is material and energy, the second barrier is building out the infrastructure to get materials together, and the finished parts distributed to market, the third is the deal breaker because it is the competing social interests that hinder and prevent industrialization because it either takes power and prestige away from the current regime, or conflicts with established industries. Spain spent 300 years establishing an Iron and steel cannon casting industry, and China essentially spent 700 years even with expert help and INVENTING casting iron.
Getting butts into stations for manufacturing is going to be child play if the finances and markets are sorted out.

Forgive my late response, but I just saw your question. The answer is, of course, I don't know.

But he grew up in suburban NYC, and his father was a radio announcer. At Cornell, he was a history major and he went right into show business (ie, restaurant work) after graduating. I heard him say in a recent conversation, that most of his life has been spent based in Los Angeles. It is a fair guess he has never worked or even stepped foot in a factory, other than for a tour. Its certainly true he has no knowledge or experience with industrial automation, plant management and organization, or even what the people who work in factories are like.

So perhaps he has stepped into a factory for a few minutes, but its a fair bet his knowledge is zero about what he was seeing.
