There were a few guys who were unable to land and/or CMP that are still kickin’ it. Fred Haise and Jim Lovell, the latter visited and orbited the Moon twice. Unfortunately I can’t recall the CMPs for 14, 15, 16, or 17 off the top of my head. Al Worden is in there somewhere, he might still be around. Rusty Schweikert maybe?

It’s a multi focal lense similar to a progressive lense, doc said if all goes well the only thing I might need are cheater eyeglasses for nighttime reading.

I got the single-focus lenses, optimized for driving. But I can read a newspaper or restaurant menu in a good light without resorting to dime-store readers. Don't need readers to read the HQ on my computer screen.

Enos, iirc, was highly pissed off but otherwise unharmed. The capsule leaked and took on quite a bit of water on splashdown.
They were expected to perform tasks in orbit, receiving a pellet of food for compliance, and a mild shock if they failed.

And 11g's for a pretty good bit during reentry. (They lowered those peaks later on Gemini and Apollo -- Apollo could pull 7 - 8g's coming in hot from lunar return).

Had there been a mishap, requiring the launch escape system on that Dildo head capsule, they would've pulled 11g's briefly from the solid rocket motors blasting them away from the booster.
That would've been interesting. They would've likely all passed out. Maybe even some mild injuries, certainly bruising. Would silicone boob implants fail under that stress, I don't know.

I've been listening to a lot of psychedelic-era music lately. Monterey Pop '67, Airplane, Quicksilver, Country Joe and the Fish, Tommy James. It was a cool time that kinda fell apart after Altamont. Fun while it lasted. Even the Temptations had a flirtation with psychedelia.

Bezo's dildo ride is pure space tourism, basically an amusement park thrill ride for billionaires and celebrities.
It's flight profile is basically vertical. Capsule lands only ~2 miles from the launch pad. It goes straight up under power, then engine shuts off and it coasts staight up to apogee just over the 60 miles Karman line boundary. Then free falls back down vertically.
There is a brief 5.5g peak when it hits thicker atmosphere, the thing is designed to slow down quickly. Hard, but fast. Basically, a little discomfort for a few seconds. Then, not too bad.
Heating load on the thing is about the least it can be for anything called reentry. Heat shield temps may hit a few hundred, compared to thousands, hot plasma for an orbital or Alan Shepard reentry.
This is about the safest way to give a joyride that can be technically called going into space.

I didn't know this until I saw clips from a Gaza conference in the US over the weekend, but these folks call the USA 'Empire' for short, and have every intention of taking us down BAMN. Pretty scary stuff.
What I find additionally strange about this is that if this were a traditional movement for independence, they would confine their attentions to the supposed colonizers, and demand their freedom in ways nonviolent (optimal) and violent. With these folks, they actually want to facilitate the destruction of countries that aren't directly suppressing them, but instead have some perceived influence over who they believe is doing the suppressing. This makes it even clearer that they are part of a much larger movement that has nefarious intent - if they want to take the US down, they are looking for global domination. That's a lot bigger than 'liberation' of a territory not much bigger than a few boroughs in NYC.

Basically, water doesn’t hurt electronics, with a few exceptions, component wise. Powering it up while still wet, that is a big no-no. Usually even fresh water leaves behind conductive salts or contaminants that have to be flushed away, distilled water, and then thoroughly dried before powering back up.

I've been listening to a lot of psychedelic-era music lately. Monterey Pop '67, Airplane, Quicksilver, Country Joe and the Fish, Tommy James. It was a cool time that kinda fell apart after Altamont. Fun while it lasted. Even the Temptations had a flirtation with psychedelia.

I stumbled upon a band named The 13th Floor Elevators, a few years ago. They were a psychedelic rock band out of Austin, TX. They never quite made it nationally, but they were very popular in Texas and the Southwest. Some pretty good stuff.

It was only 5 months ago I was told that Jules might be going home with a ventilator and feeding tube like Jim. After severe septic shock and multiple systems failure.
Yet she is now home and recovering without those, in great part from prayers from here I'm sure.

These exist. This stuff had sort of resurgence maybe 10 - 15 years ago. Why, I don't know, maybe more of the "everything they tell us is a lie" dynamic.
I was looking at Don Pettit's X feed the other day, where he posted some very nice shots of earth, this one some time-lapse trails of some Starlink satellites.
I noticed a reply along the things "You are a liar! You're a soulless tool of Satan!". I thought what the actual fuck. What is this guy's problem. It was a flat-earther, turns out.

At the pcb fab place I worked at when a new board wouldn't power up properly the first time we would give it an absolute bath in isopropyl (the strong stuff) and bake it for a day at 250F. Amazingly works a lot of the time.
With the no-lead solder used now, boards go through a washer after reflow to clean them and the dryer sometimes doesn't get all the water out.

The flat-earth cosmogony, if you can call it that, is interesting. It draws very literally on the language from Genesis.
Their view is basically, the earth, or at least the portion we know is a flat disc that looks like the azimuthal equidistant map projection around the North Pole:

The sky above is the "firmament". This is like a glass dome. The planets and stars are just "objects" on the firmament. Well, the Sun and the Moon (and planets) move relative to the background of stars, and I'm not sure. The sun and moon, rather than spheres, are sort of like circling flashlights, fairly close to the surface. That's how the explain night and day.
What's underneath the disc? Well, they sort of take the "Foundations of the Earth" literally somehow there as well.
