Finished watching a replay of The Masters. The CBS crew did a decent job which they normally do. The camera work is always superb but Augusta National is a gorgeous place. Hard to take a bad shot there. They weren't squealing like cheerleaders and throwing their panties at Rory like they were with Tiger in '19. Would have preferred Scheffler win two in a row, but he's been slightly off in his game all year.

Having found a lose upper bolt on the Volvo S-60's drop link and torquing it correctly, that inane rattle is finally gone. I must have under tightened it during the front strut replacement the other week.
So next? Turbo replacement on the V-70 wagon starts today. Almost 275,000 miles on it, and the old turbo is getting tired. Could be fun, as this is one repair that I have never done before. Posted by: Village Idiot's Apprentice at April 14, 2025 05:03 AM (a1415) 13

Any power cable that is not weated properly could do the same thing. Connectords are typically capable of much higher ampacities than the specs state.
Make sure any cable is seated properly and that the pin hasn't driven the socket back in the shell from being misaligned or not set properly in the first place. I agree that things are eating away at the rated "power" what ever that is, but sloppy practices will kill any margin. Posted by: pawn, RIP Vic at April 14, 2025 05:12 AM (QB+5g) 20

Evening and morning to all the late toilers and early risers! Yes, it's Monday, but remember: Compared to being on the wrong side of the ground, even a bad Monday is pretty small kumquats, nicht wahr?
Strang dreams last night, of which all I can remember is that somebody asked me to transport a large dusty cardboard box and some (thankfully bloodless) severed human arms and legs in my car. My reaction: "I don't want that crap in my car!" Nowhere near as appealing as the dream of a couple nights ago, where the young Heather Thomas (or a lookalike) and I were cuddling and talking sexy to each other like teenagers at a party. Anyway! I conclusion... avoid excessive rotor flapping, because excessive flapping will lead to a zero g situation and a right roll, which might prompt the pilot to overcorrect with a left roll input, thus causing more excessive flapping and ultimately mast bumping, resulting in catastrophic failure. Yesterday afternoon I spent some fun but frustrating time trying to learn some MacOS (Unix) commands on the iMac's Terminal, and trying to install a utility called Youtube-dl (or its new version, YT-Dlp). I downloaded the utility's latest version, made sure it was in the right path, and tried to download some videos. I kept getting a message that MacOS could not verify that the software was not malicious. I guess I need to download it as a package and go through the usual behind-the-scenes verification.

National weather patterns show a wet and snowy week ahead for the NE. But longer range patterns show a warm up in the east and a cool down in the west next week. The mountains of NY and NE will see winter return this week. Can't Kathy Hochul pay attention, being the highest paid governor ever. But no. her green new deal will proceed as usual. EV everywhere and far less power to do it all...She just wants us all to stay home I guess. Are the state vehicles EV's, I bet not.

Posted by: Captain Obvious, Laird o' the Sea, Radioactive Knight, Concertina Czar at April 14, 2025 06:31 AM (6K6Eu) Just 5 scoops of decaf beans and 3 scoops of normal beans for 3 and a half cups or so; any leftovers become an iced coffee treat later. I can drink decaf tea with no noticeable difference in taste. But I can taste the lack of caffeine in decaf coffee; it's just flat. That's why any caffeine I have will be with coffee. “Automated IP fines/3-strike rules for AI infringement may become the substitute for putting poor people in jail for cannabis possession.”
Yeah, I know because there are so many poor people crawling the web to download data to feed their newest AI models. It’s approaching pandemic levels. Wait, wut? Oh, you mean in the future when everybody owning and training their own AI with stolen IP will be as ubiquitous as torrent sharing, maybe? So if everybody is doing it then it must be OK then? And we are a long way off from everybody carrying around their own LLMs in their pocket. Not when it takes 100+ GB of RAM just to run the best ones. Maybe in ten years this will be a problem, but let’s not jump the gun and take way every musician, artist, and author’s rights away just so a few huge corporations don’t have to pay royalties. Llama. Grok. ChatGPT. At least the Chinese are straightforward enough to give theirs a creepy name.
Our evil technocrats think if they give these technologies cutesy faggot names, people won't notice that the technologies are being developed in order to exterminate them one day. Sadly, they're probably right. People like to say we'll be in denial even as they load us on the cattle cars. That's too generous. In the future, when robots are eating people for fuel, theyll be watching them gorge and saying "oh, look at those industry leading benchmarks!
