30 Harrison Bay State Park. Sister lived that side of the Chickamauga Dam. Even swam once down near the dam where they had a 'beach'. Swimming in a river was so much different than swimming in the ocean.

I remember the park also had a fresh water pool. It was fine to swim but the floor was slimy, like moss.

More often than I like to recall. My favorite failing is to forget to put the permanent gold filter into the plastic housing, so when I spoon grounds in, they go down into the carafe. Doh!

'Tis actually chilly this am, for here: 48 F., almost unheard of at this time of year in this climate. I for one am well pleased not to be sweating when I walk out to the mailbox.

I'm up early to bring the Buick in for brake pads and to replace a front wheel bearing. It prob. won't be cheap -- the part alone for the latter is $200 -- but it'll be great not to hear that drone as I drive over 40. And the car is nine years old. Repairs will be needed. The big red beast has been ultra-reliable and a pleasure to drive, always.

52 I dreamed an odd scenario last night. I was on my old employer's campus and in a building at the northern end where I'd never been. Of course I got lost and had to keep asking people how to get out. For some reason, too, I had changed my clothes there, and had forgotten my belt, which had some odd importance to me. So I had to go back into the maze and find the changing room.

Someone had walked off with the belt. When I asked an employee I knew, she accused a short fellow employee we all knew and disliked. Before I could hunt him down, I woke up.

Hi vmom! Yes, I've had Macs for years and years and have used Pages. The big problem is no one else can read a Pages doc unless they also have a Mac, and most don't.

164 I had to help with a ticketing system years ago. I pointed out that for outages they had sites effected. I pointed out it was affected and they disagreed. Thankfully, someone did some research and it was changed.

I think of your wonderful homeschooling efforts a lot when I contemplate how the public school is so weak. I talk to my student daily on what they are learning.

I am going to reach out to a local homeschooling network to see if I can be a guest lecturer on a wide variety of topics.

They would probably love to get involved with your Constitution Bee if you still do those!

168 No Oxford comma? It is a shame, reprehensible, and that person should be shunned.

Yeah, you'd have to Save As / Export and then that always messes up formatting somehow

For all intensive purposes, yes! Irregardless, it’s a mute point.

LOL you hit a bunch of my pet peeves.

Now how about the use of 'went' for 'gone'?
"He had went to town" instead of "He had gone to town"?

172 The series I'm currently reading involves humans using nanotechnology and the Moon to create a "mirror shield" to combat global warming.

Reminds me of Fallen Angels where they saved the Earth from those nasty pollutants only to have the planet buried in an Ice Age.

173 I taught the Oxford comma to my kids and when one of them had her first writing class at the local community college, her instructor commented on her promiscuous use of commas. I had to laugh.

Our leaders aged out of the sweat equity part of the Constitution Bee. We did give $42,000 dollars in scholarship money to the winners over the years. I still meet every Wednesday night with the survivors of that effort.

But I do have a talk on the Constitution read for them. As well as talks on chemistry, basic science, chickens, and the Age of Antarctic exploration, esp. Shackleton. I could try for a chemistry demo, but that is iffy.

175 Always something going on - most recently it was the "organic" protests at the Tysons Tesla dealership. My favorite quote was from the guy who yelled "I'm buying TWO because of you!" as he strode into the dealership.

When I was in the Navy and stationed in Cali there was a grocery store that was being picketed by the grocery workers union because the employees at the store had voted to not unionize.

I decided that was the store for me. As I walked past the pickets one of them said "can't you se we're picketing this place" and I replied "guess why I choose to shop here".

Ha! Good for you. So the people who worked at the store didn't want to unionize and people who didn't work at the store picketed them for it. Sounds about right.
