The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition
The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by Law make or alter such Regulations, except as to the Places of chusing Senators.
Oh... there might be an argument about Congress regulating the presidential elections, since electors are simply "chosen," but that is a fight worth having. It seems unlikely that the SCOTUS will reaffirm Congressional power to regulate some elections but not the presidential election. Regardless, it is up to Congress to act. But they probably won't because the marvelous status quo of the uniparty makes Congress wealthy, and almost entirely insulated from repercussions for their shady, grifting acts. Cleaning up the elections process would jeopardize that, and they won't risk it. If they do take up the banner of election integrity, it will be very interesting indeed to see who defects to the fascists across the aisle. In the Senate: Collins? Murkowski? McConnell? And in the House: Fitzpatrick? Bacon? Now is the time to act... there is no guarantee that the 2026 mid-term elections will turn out well for the forces of election integrity, which is shorthand for freedom and American Exceptionalism! Sure, if President Trump is successful in reorienting the economy toward domestic production and stopping the hemorrhaging of money we don't have to foreign manufacturers, then it is entirely possible that the mid-terms will be a referendum on a new American century! That sounds great! But why risk it. Right now, the Republicans have a bare-minimum majority in both houses, and the tone of the country seems supportive of a coherent election integrity policy that would merely fall into line with the rest of the free world. So stop dawdling and vote on a comprehensive bill; and call it something cool like The MAGA Voting Rights Act of 2025! Come on... a fella can dream! Probably not the best idea, but like everything else, you could just tie it to money.
Have a funding mechanism for elections. Play by the rules, your state can get funding for paying election workers, etc etc. Don't want to play? Pay out of your own pockets.

Democrat electoral fraud is legendary. I read somewhere that it was common knowledge in the 1960s with campaign officials, the rule of thumb was, any Republican had to make up a million legitimate votes just to break even in any national election. I’ve often wondered what the public sentiment would be if the media and other propaganda organs - particularly schools - weren’t fully committed to brainwashing everyone as well.

Interesting that among the blizzard of EOs Trump has signed one he did yesterday might help put a bit of popular support behind election integrity. Trump signed an EO yesterday to take away the security clearances for Chris Krebs and investigate his actions around the 2020 election.
If you don't remember, Krebs was the head of CISA during the 2020 election and he testified the election was the safest election in history. He lied, of course. And he was personally responsible for insuring the election was not secure.
Hopefully, all the shady shit he did with Smartmatic and Dominion and other issues comes to light. No better way to prove that our elections are completely insecure than to show the American people the evidence and that includes the millions of illegals given the right to vote by the Biden administration that DOGE has uncovered.

Because local elections are combined with Federal elections its not possible to have election reform and oversight that is needed for Federal elections.
I know that each state is in charge of how they run elections but I have always believed that there needs to be Federal control for Federal office elections. One cohesive system for election integrity. I believe this because for example, elections for Federal office in Kentucky effects me in Texas bigley.
Even if it means they are stand alone elections.

It's 2025...voting should be done online using a credit card to not only verify the vote but each vote should cost $19.95 with local and State taxes applying with only 1 day to vote after which the voting site stops taking votes/payments. We still vote like we are riding around in horse and buggies.

I include anything and everything a motivated Congress would try as well as anything a motivated President would try too.

Maybe the states split up their elections between federal and state/local. The federal one has all the election safeguards necessary for a free and fair election, and the state/local can use carnival games like ring toss or the duck pond or whatever the teacher unions and state employees require to choose the appropriate corrupt leaders in their blue states.

Sorry, one more thought - this may not hold well for off-year elections where there is no Federal candidates. I think that's a weak spot if some states shift their elections, but then we get back into the opportunity cost question.

Sorry, one more thought - this may not hold well for off-year elections where there is no Federal candidates. I think that's a weak spot if some states shift their elections, but then we get back into the opportunity cost question.

The constitution doesn't give the federal government a lot of room to regulate elections but there are pressures that can be brought to bear and law enforcement used afterward to make it miserable and costly to fail to do certain things.
But yeah, congress has got to act to codify many of these changes, cuts, and executive orders. Otherwise, the next typical president will just reverse it all in his first 100 days.

In my county there is yet another vote coming up soon for bonds to pay for some bullshit or other. I told one of my kids I’m voting no across the board for these like I always do but they will pass like they always do.
I said this is because people who pay no taxes are allowed to vote and they always vote to raise taxes on someone else. I also said only people who pay taxes should be allowed to vote.

No about 1/2 the people pay nothing and of the half that do pay 1/2 of those pay almost all the taxes. Kid was genuinely shocked to hear it. Like at its base it’s stupid and unfair that 1/4 of the people carry the other 3/4on their backs.

Kid was confused. How can people not pay taxes? Doesn’t everyone pay taxes? Oh sweet sweet innocent child, I said. No about 1/2 the people pay nothing and of the half that do pay 1/2 of those pay almost all the taxes. Kid was genuinely shocked to hear it. Yeah its like the really great athlete who supposedly is a wonderful guy everyone likes, but doesn't have that killer instinct that gets him wins. I'm not voting for Mr Congeniality, I want someone who does the right thing.
I am reminded of the all-too-accurate wild west story of the town tamer who is chased out of town once the place is settled because nobody wants a man that dangerous and deadly around any longer. Or Churchill, who was thrown out of office once England was saved.

When I got a driver's license in KS, I brought my birth certificate, marriage certificate for my second husband, death certificates for both husbands and I still had to go back. I needed my first marriage certificate to show where I got the last name I'd used for 40 years and that was on my previous license. That's their Real ID, already in place. And you have to change your name with Social Security too.

US makes up about 15% of China’s exports. And we can’t live without them at the moment. The rest of the world won’t, either, because most of the world has no alternative.
China has a huge domestic economy, as well. This idea that the world’s largest economy exists solely to fill Walmart is a bit mistaken.

Step one: abolish rank choice voting to the extent Congress can. Murkowski is a beneficiary of that, and I think the obvious reason they put it in in AK. Not sure Congress can alter that since it's a choosing of Senators but perhaps in other places it exists. I believe Maine uses it for the House and thus it made the only GOP seat in New England go to a Dem a few years back.
