Sea Weirdoes Cafe

argentinapatagronia.jpg
Patagonia
via @Tina95003848248

Goat overpass. Though anything is an overpass to a goat.

Androids have advanced. (Yes, we can now speak of genuine androids.) Once they walked haltingly and always about to totter over, now they walk smoothly.

I don't know if this is real. I doubt it.

Guy is annoyed to discover an alligator reading over his shoulder.

New species discovered in the Springfield Nuclear Power Aquifer.

It's a day of Weirdoes from the Sea.

Salamander eggs.

Border collies showing off their mad speed at agility contests as well as
at work.

Too much cursing in the audio here: Coyote approaches dog... to play.

A pigeon liked a woman's pink shoes, which reminded him of pink pigeon feet, so he gave her his sexy mating dance. They're now dating.

Gay ostrich does "flirty dancing" for guy.

Sheep-Leaping, the Sport of the Future.

An illegal dog-fighting ring run by, what else, cocks. They're turning the system against itself!

Tossing a bag of "organic waste" into a volcano, like in that movie erg was such a fan of.

Throwing a stone into the deepest known cave in the world.

He knows what he did. (But he's a good boy so he feels shame.)

Mother husky needs a break:

This Dachshund dad needs a break too.

Here's some more Weirdness in the Sea: An earthquake strikes the ocean.

Now I know Middle Earth is real!

13 i have so many questions

The Mexican Pig Bus combines the feral hog issues in North America with the illiteracy of the Hispanic community.
Hogs run up and down roads to communities and schools.
At the school end, they are rewarded with leftover Dept of Ed meals.
At the home end the families leave their Taco Bueno and El Chico TV dinners out.
Within weeks the hogs learn the route and feeding time.

150 Japan and Korea have that tariff because they insist on being completely independent on food production. Japan felt starvation during WWII, and Korea both during and after it. Those tariffs assure that (outside of smuggling which surely goes on) there is not so much US rice coming in to smother local production.

The way the US manufacturing is smothered out by Chinese production.

Can't we pretty much recycle it all with breeder reactors now?

Posted by: TexasDan at April 02, 2025 09:26 PM (rAsBA)

186 Problem is…

Many countries don’t allow the types of chemicals the US uses in farming. I don’t blame them, some of our crops are toxic. Look at the rates of chronic disease in the US.

We cannot force them to buy our goods, or even import our goods, but dammit, they can pay for the privilege of selling their goods here.

187 Nuclear waste should be mixed into highway asphalt.

Not a good plan, it produces heat.

Why do you think this?

As I understand it, yes. For like 2 decades now.

191 I was wondering today in Walmart produce section if it would pay to build a banana plantation in florida. We had a banana tree in our yard there. We got Cavendish bananas from it. At least that's what a local called them.

192 A fast breeder reactor takes U-238 and converts it to Pu-239. Are there other types of breeders?

193 That cave is the long but not very deep volcanic cave on Jeju Island, South Korea. The rumor has it that the video is manipulated, so we don't really know how long the rock fell. For anime fans, this is where the mutant/monster ant bed was for the final fight scenes in Solo Leveling Season 2.

194 Carter cancelled civilian development of breeder reactors back in the 70s, so the technology is much older.

199 'Slow' (technically thermal breeder) mark fissile uranium-233 from thorium.

200 > Are there other types of breeders?
Posted by: Ciampino - Thorium maybe? at April 02, 2025 09:32 PM (sPQoU)

Yes, the thorium cycle uses slow (thermal) neutrons to breed fuel, rather than fast (relativistic) neutrons.

I think there are other kinds, but the fast (uranium) and slow (thorium) are the only two cycles that have ever been seriously considered.

202 > dump them in containers in mines or seafloors. No radiation would escape.

If you dumped it into a subduction zone (where one plate is diving under another) you'd never have to worry about it again.

The downside is that you can't get it back if you really need it (e.g., to fuel breeder reactors).

Posted by: Its Go Time Donald at April 02, 2025 09:11 PM (A+/01)

I don't know about "turning". This is totally consistent with Rand and Ron's political philosophy, namely extreme laissez-faire capitalism. Anything that interferes with a free market is anathema to them... always has been.

Me, I'm more of a "tit-for-tat" guy... pro-free market, but only to the extent that our trading partners are.
