A Strange Thing happened On The Way To The ONT

Hello everybody! Welcome to Thursday night! Refreshments will be provided.

Day Of Infamy

Today is the 189th anniversary of the Goliad Massacre. Traces of Texas has the story.

Just a few weeks later, Texians would get their revenge, and their independence, at San Jacinto, an overwhelming victory made possible in part because the Mexican commander was busy dallying with a mullato girl named Emily West when the Texians attacked. For her pivotal, if unintended, role in the victory, Wast was thereafter known as the Yellow Rose of Texas. And now you know.

A Smart Military Blog

Parable of the Shipbuilding Plan

The Navy is awash in studies, all saying roughly the same thing: Not enough—be it warships, logistics, salvage, support, shipyards and workers, naval personnel, ordnance, inventory, or time. The Navy’s sea power problem is not for lack of study, but lack of stuff. To paraphrase former Representatives Mike Gallagher (R-WI) and Elaine Luria (D-VA), we know what the problems are, and the time for action is now.
This is not to say that, in parallel with action and advocacy, there is not hard intellectual work to be done. However, that is for developing a coherent, competent, and cohesive vision for sea power—not further study of the problem. As Representative Mike Waltz (R-FL) and the Center for Maritime Strategy’s retired Navy Admiral James Foggo shout in various forums, the United States still lacks a national maritime strategy. “Rebuilding . . . maritime strength requires a holistic approach, considering the readiness of our entire maritime machinery—infrastructure, workforce, technology, policies, industry, shipping fleets, and sea services. We need our own National Maritime Strategy to pull all these elements together,” Waltz noted.1
But aggressive action on every front should not await a strategy. Whatever that grand national maritime strategy may be, a decade of studies roughly outlines how every component Representative Waltz listed is broken. The Navy could resource or advocate for aggressive expansion of any aspect of shipbuilding, because none is sufficient to meet any future vision for sea power.

The navy badly needs more ships. Build, baby build!

Monster Under The Bed

Babysitter checking for monsters finds man hiding under child’s bed

A 27-year-old man has been arrested after a Kansas babysitter found him hiding under a child’s bed, police said.
At around 10:30 p.m. Monday, the Barton County Sheriff’s Office says a babysitter at a home near Great Bend was putting the children to bed when one of them told her that a monster was under their bed.
The babysitter, hoping to comfort the child by showing them there was nothing, looked under the bed and came face-to-face with a man hiding underneath, authorities said. There was an alleged altercation, and the babysitter and a child were knocked over.

Not your traditional under bed monster, but a monster nonetheless.

Dirty Laundry

An Assassination Has Ties to California’s Political Elite

In a scene right out of a movie, cars with stolen license plates parked outside a home in the Fruitvale neighborhood in Oakland, made famous by BLM rioters when a career criminal was shot during a fight in a train station, and the men inside opened fire on the homeowner.
The homeowner grabbed his gun and returned fire.
While such sights are not unknown as criminals have taken over the streets in major California cities, this was not a gang drive by, or if it was, the gang in question appeared to have ties to a large network of the area and the entire state’s Democratic Party political establishment including the city’s DA and even the state’s attorney general and possible next governor.

Cali is a shithole.

Personal News

I'm going to be a published author! My friend invited me to submit a story for the second anthology set in his WWIII universe, and it got accepted! Just finished the (hopefully) final round of edits tonight. They're going to pay me for the story and everything. It's kinda cool.

Rogue Courts

Trump’s war against the deep state starts with the courts

We are not a nation of laws, and we never have been. We are a nation of political will, and we always will be.

For more than a generation, the right has either failed or refused to acknowledge this essential truth. Meanwhile, the left has embraced it with unwavering commitment. As a result, it was on the verge of fulfilling Antonio Gramsci’s vision of a “long march through the institutions” — until the 2024 election stopped the left just short of the goal line.

The good news is that after the 2024 election, we’re still in the fight. The bad news? We have 99 yards to march in the opposite direction. Here’s how we got here.

Rogue courts are the real Constitutional crisis.

On Housing

Want Abundance in Housing? Acknowledge that Greed Is Good

To many New Yorkers, the answer is clearly the second. The rising abundance movement is built on the belief that neighborhoods like Windsor Terrace must reject the politics of scarcity and embrace growth and change, even at some personal cost. But while their goals are noble, the challenges they face in places like Windsor Terrace reveal the limits of the project. A politics of “abundance” can never get by on class warfare. If YIMBYs want to succeed, they’ll need to stand behind profit-seeking real-estate developers—the true vanguard of neighborhood change.
Consider the massive gap between the number of existing housing units in New York City and the number needed to make housing truly abundant and affordable. My colleague Eric Kober estimates that the city would need 500,000 new units over the next decade to reach that goal—roughly twice the rate of housing production that City Hall projects over that interval. Keep that number in mind as we look to what’s actually happening on the ground.

TL/DR: Let the market work.

I read a sword and sorcery book once, where the captain of one of the wings of an invading barbarian horde, a turncoat city man turned pirate, get told during the final battle to seize the capital city is told that the leading general of the city has been killed in front of the gates. The pirate swears at this and when asked why, he stated that he had sworn a blood oath to kill that general, and eat his liver, and that was not only impossible now, but that the liver would have spoiled by then, in the heat.

I cannot say this applies to all the anti-Trump cases, but those that a District Court judge says applies nationwide should be given the big F-U by any administration* - No jurisdiction outside your district fuckhead. YOU file an appeal and when / if it gets to SCROTUS and it makes its decision we will give it all due consideration for national effect.

Unfortunately playing footsie with these judges certainly is predicted that the Administration recognizes that District Judge Fuckhead has a level of authority nationwide that exceeds SCROTUS's.

105 Speaking of Mayo,
Once upon a time, when I was in college, I had gotten myself one of those legendary 3-day hangovers from drinking not beer, but way, way, waaay too much cheap wine. The trash can next to my bed was full of puke. During those long 3 days, my roommate would ever so helpfully encourage my recovery. Between his classes he would come into the room and eat at a bowl of jiggly, greasy mayonnaise with a big serving spoon. Thusly bringing about a purging of the poisons.
Ah yes. The good old days I so fondly remember.

Okay. Need to do a life update for mama. She hasn’t been doing so hot the last couple weeks. Like I said last month, the cancer has been spreading. She’s been declining quite a bit since then. Her energy level is very low and she’s struggling with breathing after the smallest tasks or even if shes talks too much. The decision has been made to transition to hospice care.

I want to be clear here about a couple things. Number one, she is NOT in her final days although her oncologist estimates with how the cancer has progressed that she is probably down to several months, 6-9 maybe more.

Number 2. She is up for visitors but not much. Please contact myself, dad or her first.

She won’t last much longer than 15-20 minutes if you do stop by, so keep your expectations low.

Other than that, continued prayers and good vibes are always appreciated. Much love to you all. If you have questions, feel free to contact me privately. This is obviously a difficult time as you can imagine but I’ll do my best.

But the software was invented and promoted by a group of left-wing IT folks in California, and the "Signal Foundation" board chairman is that laothsome scrunt CEO of PBS. It is not a Trump-friendly institution. There would be great incentive for one of the Signal developers to create an exploit. And Trump and his folks inherited the use of Signal from the Bidenites. After 40 years, it would be very difficult if well-nigh impossible to find any trace of an entry. Any scars on the land have healed -- or been built on -- over time.

Based upon the brief read I did, I can see where at the time of night, on a dark road, after going to a bar, an accident could happen or her car could have been run off the road.

Unless they get a tip, I think this is one for the 'case closed but no solution' files.

The law, passed in 2022, requires psychiatric evaluations for children who torture or kill domesticated animals.
“He did that to our dog, and I don’t know what he can do to other animals or, in the future, do to human beings,” Roberts said.

Isn't it the case that most psychopaths would mutilate/torture/kill animals first? Kid needs to be kept on a short leash until he's 35 or so.

I remember some show where they were trying to find the wreckage of a small plane that went down off the coast of California many years later

The pilot was fished out alive, and they had those coordinates from the report. They then had to figure out where the currents would have gradually moved the wreckage on the floor over decades.

They finally found it, but it took some time.

279 More warm and sincere greetings and expressions of concern, and bombings, for the Houthis from the US Navy today/tonight. But mostly bombings.

Reported that US took out a key missile dude the other night based on Israeli-supplied intel, via humint. Plausible. But why the FF this sort of stuff is talked about, at all, baffles me. This has been happening since the Israelis imprudently commented - at all - on Op Grim Beeper.

Logical but glib comments would be along the lines of "sewing paranoia and doubt in enemy counter-intel about their personnel." Problem with that is - enemy CI already is in that condition - it's kind of their job description. This kind of manipulation is the stuff of bad spy fiction (all spy fiction), but not reality. The very nature of a hit like this on the Houthi Von Braun, if it happened, is sufficient to tell the other side that they have a humint vulnerability.

Anyway. Trump letter reportedly included demand Eye-ran cease support to militias in Eye-rak. This, along with demand for total dismantlement of nuke program, are non-starters for Tehran. All of which resolves any lingering concerns (small) that the dumb peace talk Trump seems to feel is useful for a portion of the public was anything more than just that.

🚨BREAKING NEWS: Four Harris County sheriff's officers have died by suicide in the past six weeks.

The death of Deputy Christina Kohler was announced by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) last week. The 37-year-old law enforcement officer had joined the force in 2018 and served in the courts division.

Three days after Kohler was found, it was also announced that former Harris County deputy Maria Vasquez, who left the department in December, also died by suicide.

Earlier last week, another former deputy, William Bozeman, was found dead under similar circumstances. Former deputy Long Nguyen, 58, also took his own life on February 6, according to the medical examiner.

McNeese added that he hoped the multiple losses within such a short period of time will spark a break in the stigma around conversations about mental health and suicide, which is still pervasive within law enforcement.

324 Poor people food--

Mom used to make "mulligan stew" she called it. It had whatever she could get... and, usually, a hunk of beef brisket (long before hipsters & home smokers!)... onion, potato, carrot, sometimes turnip instead of potato...It was pressure-cooked and bland. Needed lots of salt, and some buttered bread, to be palatable. We got that at least twice a week when I was little.

Mom was a very young wife/mother back then, and money was tight. She got better at cooking, thankfully, and we ate *better stuff* as years went by.

Well, yeah. When the adversary/target is this one, the history and context are what they are, interests and odds are these, taking the other player off the board is the only sensible choice. Which will not be accomplished, directly, by wrecking the facility at Natanz etc. But the Tehran regime is pretty battered, limping along, and it's not a long-shot be that a decisive strike on its nuke program would be the final straw.

Their currency has dropped to its lowest value in history, they literally cannot keep the lights on, endemic ethnic/regional issues (mostly Baluchistan and the Azeri areas in the north) are pretty lively, and our "maximum pressure" campaign has barely started. Every situation is different, but this one has potential to self-resolve based on mass popular action.

340 I'm in NYC, next to New England and Canuckistan naighbor. My grocery stores sell Vermont Amber and Canadian Amber Maple Syrup. I always buy Vermont Amber, never Canadian.

Other than that, I don't think about any particular product from any particular country. Oftentimes the foreign product is the choice, like Parmigiano Reggiano cheese from Italy or champagne from France, but I'm not making a conscious choice of picking one country over another like I do with syrup, I'm just picking the better product.

The founder of the "National Diversity Council," R. Dennis Kennedy, paid himself $450,000/year for 10 hours of work a week. Then, in 2022, at the peak of DEI mania, he and two other executives decided they were owed $3 million in "back pay" and looted the organization.

Now, the organization is filing for bankruptcy, with the board saying Kennedy systematically looted it by funneling its assets to a for-profit firm controlled by himself.

DEI has always been a scam. Amazing reporting by @lukerosiak

Oh, I approve the sequence. I'm not sure how implosion and regime change happen, though, despite all the bleak indicators for Eye-ran. I keep North Korea as my example. If they can't implode, who can? It still amazes me that the USSR did. I can only think the leaders got sick of holding the whole rotten structure up and said Eff it. But I don't see that weariness or any level of paranoia among the mullahs. The passion against the shah must have been insane, and although he's gone, the passion seems to persist.

Hubby is slowly declining, mentally. This I notice, day by day. It's a rollercoaster, heading only downward: either slow or fast, but always *down*.

Nursing home "doctor" I haven't even SEEN yet (2 months and counting!) hasn't communicated directly with me. Whatever he *may have said* to hubby, is lost to the ether... he can't remember.

But we know hubby's illness is terminal. His only *cure* is liver transplant, which he declines.

No family nearby, but plenty of concerned neighbors and couple of close friends.

I'm OK. Thanks!

360 Stepson & hubby's XW will visit in a couple of weeks. Hubby will be thrilled to see them!

Can't tell him, or he'll be looking for them *every day* because he has lost concept of time. Will give him a wonderful surprise...

He has appt with gastroenterologist mid-April. Will see what THAT Dr. thinks.

362 Thanks, Blondie.

Hubby doesn't seem to be in pain. Only muscle strain from PT, and I apply Aspercreme (or similar) for that. He likes it, says it helps alot, "better than pills" he says.

It's just a waiting game now. And sad, because hubs is just aware enough to know that he isn't HOME, and cannot DO the little things he used to enjoy.
