Trump Announces He's Taking the UN Ambassador Nomination from Elisa Stefanik, Because the GOP's Margin in the House Is Too Tiny to Give Up a Seat

Yes, I thought it was a bad idea to appoint Lee Zeldin to the EPA, too. Not because he's a bad pick, but because the GOP barely has a majority.

The New York Democrat party, led by Lethal Nurse Kathy Hochul, has passed a law delaying the special election to replace Stefanik, to keep any Republican from serving in that seat.

In addition, now comes the threat of a third-party run in the district, to divide up the anti-Democrat vote and throw the seat to the Democrats.

Trump made the right call here. Yes, she's a good trooper who should get her reward, but we just don't have enough seats to give this one up now.

First thing I wondered when Stefanik was named as nominee for the post. Actually a question for any member of Congress pulled/promoted by the administration. The majorities in both houses are razor thin (and, as a practical matter, non-existent in the Senate, depending on the matter at hand). I assume Dan Bishop's seat (new No. 2 @ OMB) is as safe as they get. Don't know about Stefanik's, but I doubt NY has many districts that are essentially GOP locks.

Zeldin comes across as nothing special, but few people know how he shaped things behind the scene. Zeldin was the catalyst for all those campaign rallies in presumably democrat urban strongholds. He set up the Bronx rally, and though NY was always out of play, the very act caused the democrats to rearrange finances, campaign visits and their message. Plus, Zeldin is a true fighter. His showing in the NY governor's race was significantly better than anyone thought it would be.

Not sure about the trolling part, but unless I'm missing something (likely) that is a great idea. SALT thing is a relatively precise weapon that reduces the de facto national subsidy of blue state fiscal insanity/taxation. Standard deduction provides relief to a broad swath of taxpayers.

Well, the SALT Cap should at least be indexed for inflation, or let it rise to 15K or so. I say this as a Nevada resident who doesn't pay state income tax (though yes, I would benefit anyway if they raised the cap).

You might consider that CA has been doing this officially for about 10 years yet they haven't run out CA GOPers to steal. Even the flaccid GOP here can rally and claw these seats back in the next election. An attempt to put in better candidates would make them to big to steal. The party here made a devil's bargain to make all the seats uncompetitive which destroyed their relevance.

Yea, the ninjas mostly used shorter and straighter swords called ninja-to. They were better for stealth and close-quarters fighting. The katana is a long blade that's hard to conceal and requires a lot of room to wield effectively.

We have AT&T fiber optic here in Perdido which also carries Direct Stream for our nightly viewing pleasure. We've experienced no outages or slowdowns, so I'm not sure what a higher Gb package would get us.

But I'll look into it.

I expect the average gas price (at least in "red" states) to be about a $1.50 per gallon at the time of the 2026 elections -- and hopefully we'll see some deflation in food and other basic necessities.

And I hope Congress permanently extends the Trump tax cuts, and that people appreciate having benefited from those (as the wifey and I have, tremendously).

I'm still trying to figure out what nurse was talking about, though. Not enough context. I'm in WI, so I've been getting 1-4 cold calls (tagged as potential spam), and about the same number of texts, each day about next week's election for the last couple of weeks.

I do have to admit that Wisconsin holding an election on April Fool's Day is appropriate, considering some of our electorate.
