Disney Insiders Throw Rachel Zegler All the Way Under the Bus for Tanking Snow Woke

Not against Rachel Zegler, though you may get that misimpression from the headline.


Inside Disney's 'Snow White' Fiasco: Death Threats, Beefed-Up Security and a Social Media Guru for Rachel Zegler

On Aug. 12, 2024, three days after Rachel Zegler hit the stage at Disney's D23 fan event to introduce the first official trailer of "Snow White," she thanked supporters effusively in an X post for driving the teaser to 120 million views in 24 hours. One minute later, she added an afterthought in the same thread: "and always remember, free palestine."

That addendum, which amassed 8.8 million views, nearly four times the number for the initial post, quickly made the rounds, with many inside the studio expressing shock that the "Snow White" star would commingle the promotion of its $270 million tentpole with any kind of political statement.

A Disney executive raised the studio's concerns with Zegler's team, while the film's producer Marc Platt flew to New York to speak directly with her. But the actress, whose relationship with the studio began to unravel in 2022 during a contentious "West Side Story" awards season campaign and continued as she trashed the beloved original "Snow White," stood her ground, and the post remained. Behind the scenes, death threats toward Zegler's co-star Gal Gadot, who is Israeli, spiked, and Disney had to pay for additional security for the mother of four.

"She didn't understand the repercussions of her actions as far as what that meant for the film, for Gal, for anyone," says one insider.

Three months later, following the presidential election, Zegler posted "Fuck Donald Trump" and "May Trump supporters ... never know peace" on Instagram. Disney had had enough, given that the star was signaling to half the potential audience of an already troubled film plagued by costly reshoots to stay home. Platt made the case again to Zegler. After a back and forth, she began working with a social media guru paid for by Disney to vet any posts before the film's March 21 bow. Disney declined comment. Zegler did not respond to a request for comment.

"You can't say that a live-action remake of the most iconic film in the vault that cost [$270] million and has been reshot multiple times opening to $50 million is OK. The math does not work. That movie should be a billion-dollar movie," said an executive at a rival studio when the film was tracking for a $45 million-$55 million domestic opening. (It ended up at below even the low-end figure, at $43 million.)

Actually, the final figure was even lower: $42.2 million.


The Disney-Zegler standoffs underscore the challenge Hollywood studios face as they attempt to rein in stars who court controversy on social media. For her part, Gadot kept her comments on geopolitics limited to offering support for the civilian hostages taken during the Oct. 7 Hamas attack and did not mix that message with the promotion of the film.

Months later at D23, she criticized the original 1937 "Snow White," noting that the prince "literally stalks" the heroine. One top agent says that was the moment that Disney allowed Zegler to control the narrative: "The first time she shoots her mouth off, you nip it in the bud." Instead, the studio said nothing, and purists began to revolt.

Still, there was no bad blood between the two "Snow White" leads despite press reports to the contrary. Sources say the actresses got along well during production, and things only got awkward during the run-up to release. Case in point: Zegler referred to Gadot as "a professional pageant queen" in one Instagram reply that followed their joint appearance as presenters at the Oscars this month, considered a dismissive way to describe a fellow actress.

There is definitely bad blood between them. Claims to the contrary are false.

About those death threats: It was Gal Gadot who received death threats because she's an Israeli.

Note that the media is not covering this, because the culprits, obviously, are Democrat Party allies, whether in trantifa or the very active "Pro-Palestine" community.

Snow Woke is expected to lose between $200 million and $400 million. (Per one of the guys from Ruthless.)

Zegler's leftwing trantifa fans attacked that producer, Marc Platt, for rushing off to visit Zegler to tell her that when you sign up to make a $270 million movie, you can't pop off with highly contentious TikTok zingers that alienate half the potential audience.

That producer's son responded on behalf of his father.

You really want to do this? Yeah, my dad, the producer of enormous piece of Disney IP with hundreds of millions of dollars on the line, had to leave his family to fly across the country to reprimand his 20 year old employee for dragging her personal politics into the middle of promoting the movie for which she signed a multi-million dollar contract to get paid and do publicity for.

This is called adult responsibility and accountability. And her actions clearly hurt the film's box office. Free speech does not mean you're allowed to say whatever you want in your private employment without repercussions. Tens of thousands of people worked on that film and she hijacked the conversation for her own immature desires at the risk of all the colleagues and crew and blue collar workers who depend on that movie to be successful. Narcissism is not something to be coddled or encouraged.

Below, Rachel Zegler coddles her own narcissism by shrieking in joy at seeing her own name in the credits of the movie, which she watches in a nearly-empty theater.

Far be it for me to defend this smug little harridan, but the biggest reason Snow White tanked, which the sycophants at Penske Media's Variety barely touch, is that the movie sucks. Snow White freaken sucks. Did Rachel Zegler whip up a backlash? Sure. Is she responsible for Snow White sucking like nothing ever sucked in the history of suck? No, she's not. It was Disney's idea to woke-rape the original into a stupid feminist story that made no sense and had no heart. It was Disney's idea to CGI the dwarfs into dull garden gnomes. It was Disney's idea to spend a fortune on CGI that looks like something posted on MySpace in 1998.

How is it even possible to spend $270 million 32 years after Jurassic Park, 48 years after Star Wars, and 57 years after 2001: A Space Odyssey, and deliver such a shitty-looking movie?

Zegler's IMDB page shows zero upcoming projects.

the next movie is Thunderbolts, which I don't know will make money or not.

On the plus side, if this weren't Marvel/Disney and I didn't know better, I'd be interested in it, because it's about my favorite kind of superheroes, those who are just enhanced fighters and shooters. No magic, no laser-eyes, just punching and shooting people.

But it is Marvel/Disney so I know it's going to be terrible and I wouldn't want to pay money to see it anyway.

Actually they do. I watched a lot of kids shows after comedy died after 2001 and followed some of my favourites on Instagram.

Disney had social media training fir the kids. Encouraged them to post a few times a day. Insisted on clean. I remember stories of Disney freaking out over "small" things.

That said, it's long been known movie ratings are manipulated. For some reason, Amazon's ratings scale is pretty good, but, I think, due to some pressure, they decided to hide it a bit better than most.

Which they did. And i became a massive worldwide Top Ten hit. Because their arrangement and signing were 100x better than Nilsson's original.

THAT's how you do a remake.

What you don't do is remake the most influential animated feature film of all time.

236 Live remakes were fun when the CGI didn't exist or wasn't very good and so the imaginations and building craftmanship of the workers on the sets would be what amazed me. The Flintstones live remake was neat. I wouldn't care to look at a live remake now because most everything would be CGI, which is basically the same to me as the cartoons.

My understanding is that publicists and studio people go to film previews and hand out cards with a list of IPs on them, with the question "Which of these have you heard of?"

If a bunch of people choose "RoboCop" for example, you get a remake of RoboCop.

No one wants to risk any kind of failure. You could remake Plan 9 from Outer Space into a really good movie, but people would associate it with the original ridiculous one and your project would fail.

Fifty years ago I read a sci-fi short story about the final live player Super Bowl. The live player NFL had gone bankrupt. Football fans had all started watching an AI-CGI league that pitted top live player teams from differing past year's, or teams of players voted-in by viewers, against each other. I enjoyed that story. We'll be there sooner than later.

I'm just spit-balling here, but I'm going to suggest its a combination of two galaxies so that one can have more detail than a single scale by itself might provide.

On one scale, we have Applebee's. So that tells us the comparison is valid for Applebee's, perhaps Chili's, and other such plain non-formal dining, but not representative of the talent we might find at a Las Vegas high-end strip club.

The 8 I'm assuming is from the traditional 1-10 scare, where "they're ain't no 10s", but the higher the number the better.

In regard to Princess Di, I would assert she was a Waffle House 7.
