Chuck Schumer Rules Out Stepping Down with Bidenesque Steadfastness

Hm, wait a sec, Biden wound up stepping down, right?

When Schumer pressured him to, and presented him with the real polling figures (which allegedly were hidden from Biden by his "subordinates") showing that he would lose over 400 electoral votes.

WELKER: All right. Well, I do want to move to some of the discussions on Capitol Hill. Because of your decision, Leader Schumer last week, to clear the way to pass a Republican funding bill and avoid a government shutdown, you have faced calls from outside groups, even members of your own party, to step aside as minority leader. When asked about your future at a town hall, Senator Michael Bennet said, quote, "It`s important for people to know when it`s time to go." Leader Schumer, are you feeling pressure to step down?

SCHUMER: Look, I`m not stepping down. And let me just say this, Kristen. I knew when I cast my vote against the C -- against the government shutdown that it would be -- that there would be a lot of controversy. And there was. But let me tell you and your audience why I did it, why I felt it was so important. The CR was certainly bad, you know, the continuing resolution. But a shutdown would be 15 or 20 times worse.

This is causing all sorts of disarray for the Marxists. Bernie Sanders quit an interview when he was asked if he would support AOC's likely primary challenge against Schumer.

@michaelmalice

the reason Bernie stormed off is because he knows he'd endorse Schumer over AOC if it came to it, just as he shamelessly chose the establishment over voting for Tulsi

NY has always had at least one senator who is simply owned by Wall Street there. As majority leader, that is ultimately why I think Schumer had to cave. Wall Street told him to cool it and Schumer relies on Wall Street bucks to fend off the AOCs and to buy his fellow senators like Mitch.

Notice when Mitch quit being able to control campaign funding for his fellow R senators, no one much was following his lead to the wilderness.

From AOC's campaign website:

"Our campaign is fighting for a powerful set of policies that will reshape our economy, minimize inequality and reverse the effects of climate change. Through a Green New Deal, we will eliminate our greenhouse gas emissions and guarantee a high-wage job to everyone who wants one. And we’re not stopping there—our platform calls for federal limits on rent increases, transformative criminal justice reform, Medicare for All and tuition-free public college."

None of this is going to happen. The Green New Deal is dead. The orgs she's associated with are dying: the Justice Democrats' website is barely maintained, the Sunrise Movement should rename itself to the Sunset Movement without USAID money, Saikat Chakrabarti has found nothing to do but ludicrously primary Nancy Pelosi in 2026.

What "work" is she doing in Congress?

And: he was placed on admin leave for his unauthorized public statement in his official capacity.

But best of all was his LinkedIn rant, "Trump is a dangerous tyrant just like I remember when growing up in Czechoslovakia."
Except. He left Czechoslovakia ... when he was 8.

103 Henry Luce, founder of Time Magazine, was a staunch anti-communist Republican.

He was among the first people
to take L.S.D. “Elites” were considered the only people suitable, it was much too important an experience or whatever, to allow the hoi-polloi great unwashed. This was in the 1940s or early 1950s. A different school of thought, led in part by the likes of Harvard’s Tim Leary, thought everyone should drop acid in order to usher in the new Utopia. Ken Kesey and others were proponents of this approach. The CIA for their part thought it would be a great weapon to break down society and make people suggestible, among other things.

The 1960s hippies, non-conformists and “anti-war” movement was almost completely an Establishment funded enterprise. To the extent it was grass roots, it was hijacked at any rate. Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair!

Time-Life was there every step of the way. They still are. Make of that, what you will.

Dem officeholders are faced with three choices:

- Support Schumer and face the anger of the most radical elements of the base - personally
- Bitch about Schumer but continue to support him behind the scenes because you think he'll survive this and you're a ass-kisser
- Join the mob and call for his ouster in the hopes that your fortunes will be improved thereby.

Policy choices are utterly irrelevant to the decision making process.

If Schumer is defenestrated, then Wall Street is going to suffer bigly - at least in Congress. There is also you have to have a spending bill in place in order to use the enhanced recission bills.

We are six months into the current FY and literally no time to go through the normal process this year. That was inevitable when the House capitulated to the Senate last fall with a long CR to March. We will have another fight in May-June regarding the debt ceiling depending on how spending is going and borrowing authority runs out. That is likely to have the Dems refuse as a party to support it and it can be filibustered in the Senate if reconciliation is not used.

So, expect bundling of that debt ceiling provision with maybe the Trump tax cuts bill under reconciliation as the next major bill.
