Bikers Save a Landmark

Harley-Davidson Founder’s Home Saved from Demolition by Devoted Bikers and Their Favorite Company

doof-Davidson-Cottage.jpg

The ancestral home of the co-founder of Harley-Davidson motorcycles has been saved from demolition after it went on the market and was about to be scooped up by developers who would tear it down.

The Davidson Cottage, located in the Angus village in Scotland, was home to William C. Davidson, who emigrated to America in 1857, where three of his children (Arthur, Walter and William) joined 20-year-old William Harley to create the iconic Harley-Davidson company.

The once-derelict property was painstakingly restored over many years by biker aficionados who transformed it into a re-creation of a mid-nineteenth century dwelling.

However, the property went on the market once again, which required another push to save the building.

The Davidson Legacy Preservation Group was formed and won a matching grant from the UK government Community Ownership Fund. But the group needed to raise more than £300,000 to obtain keys to the cottage.

After a three year campaign, and many individual donations, the Harley-Davidson Company stepped in at the last minute to provide the final funding to get the team over the line.

DJ Doof - This Day in History Version
(from thisdayinmusic.com)

1986: Van Halen released their seventh studio album 5150 (pronounced fifty-one-fifty) which became their first album to top the US chart. The first of four albums to be recorded with lead singer Sammy Hagar, who replaced David Lee Roth was named after Eddie Van Halen's home studio, 5150, in turn named after a California law enforcement term for a mentally disturbed person.

Born on this date in 1951: Scottish musician, Dougie Thompson who was the bassist with progressive rock band Supertramp. Thomson played with Supertramp on all of their most famous albums: Crime of the Century, Crisis? What Crisis?, Even in the Quietest Moments, Breakfast in America.

Born on this date in 1949: Canadian musician Steve Lang best known for his role as a bassist in the rock band April Wine from 1976 to 1984. Their 1976 album The Whole World's Goin' Crazy reached No.1 in Canada and was the first in Canadian history to have platinum advanced sales orders. He died on 4 February, 2017 aged 67.

Bonus "This Date in History" Content

doof-bfast-club.jpg

Everyone knows the Simple Minds song that was on the soundtrack for The Breakfast Club. As you might expect, I'm going in a different direction because that song would be too easy.

Instead -- Here's Wang Chung

What say you, Horde - does this movie hold up 40+ years later? Boomers had The Big Chill. We Gen X'ers had The Breakfast Club. Both were great for their time. But are they good for anything besides nostalgia for those respective generations?

Anyway -- how about some of your favorite lines from The Breakfast Club?

I'll start with a deep cut (of course) --
"Will milk be made available to us?"
"I have a very low tolerance for dehydration."
"I've seen her dehydrate, sir. It's pretty gross."

Update

From earlier today. Teresa in Ft. Worth shared some info about our friend Jewells

I am not sure if this is the right place to put this, but I ran across this on Facebook yesterday - it is an update on our beloved Jewell45, posted by her daughter. I messaged her daughter and she said that I could post it here. If anyone knows who is doing the ONT tonight, please forward this to them as well so that they can post it.

If anyone would like Jewell's mailing address (to send cards) and/or her daughter's email address, shoot me an email at teresa.hamilton.koch at gmail.com:

Okay. Need to do a life update for mama. She hasn’t been doing so hot the last couple weeks. Like I said last month, the cancer has been spreading. She’s been declining quite a bit since then. Her energy level is very low and she’s struggling with breathing after the smallest tasks or even if shes talks too much. The decision has been made to transition to hospice care.

I want to be clear here about a couple things. Number one, she is NOT in her final days although her oncologist estimates with how the cancer has progressed that she is probably down to several months, 6-9 maybe more.

Number 2. She is up for visitors but not much. Please contact myself, dad or her first.

She won’t last much longer than 15-20 minutes if you do stop by, so keep your expectations low.

Other than that, continued prayers and good vibes are always appreciated. Much love to you all. If you have questions, feel free to contact me privately. This is obviously a difficult time as you can imagine but I’ll do my best.

80 Tangential to Ferris Bueller. I watched Time Cop last night. I don't remember watching it back in the day, although I remember the splits on the counter scene.

There are a lot of lines that are relevant today. One of them is something like "Special interests are ruining this country. We need a president rich enough that he won't be controlled by them".

Music nerd mode on--

Your hash is essentially a G-minor chord.
A G5 chord + an A-sharp note.

A G5 chord is the first and last notes of a G major or G minor chord.

Add the minor 3rd A-sharp (also called b-flat), and you get a G minor.

Therefore, I will refer to you as G Minor even if you pick something else.

I didn't publish it and I continue not to publish it because I felt too confidential, too technical, and I worry that sharing this kind of information in public could endanger American military personnel. They were plans for the attack and they were texted before the attack...

What's in the public interest is that they were running a war plan on a messaging app and didn't even know who was invited into the conversation. It's an obvious ridiculous security breach and he didn't even answer the question."

Sneakers from 1992 (Robert Redford, Dan Aykroyd, Ben Kingsley, Mary McDonnell, River Phoenix, Sidney Poitier and David Strathairn). I'm pretty sure Phoenix was dead a year later. Redford hadn't yet hit his asshole stage, Aykroyd was the same character he always plays...but fun, Poitier solid as always and remarkably good at comedy, Strathairn very good as a blind hacker, And Kinglsey as a great psychotic nutcase.

Good flick IMO.

Signal and the Fury: How the Trump Administration Sent Me Its War Plans

The U.S. bombed Yemen. The war cabinet planned it in a Signal group chat. A liberal journalist was accidentally added.

This is not satire. It’s how American power is being exercised now.
And it tells you everything about the state of modern Foreign Policy discipline.

The Trump administration coordinated a bombing campaign over Signal.

Yes—that Signal.

JD Vance asked the right question, then immediately backed down.

Foreign policy, MAGA-style: a group chat with bad instincts and worse discipline.

324 OSINTdefender @sentdefender 10h
An absolute insane story today from The Atlantic, whose Editor-in-Chief Jeffrey Goldberg as well as possible others appear to have been inadvertently added to a conversation over Signal earlier this month by U.S. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, in which Waltz, Secretary of State Pete Hegseth, Vice President JD Vance, and other officials with the Trump Administration discussed whether the now ongoing strike operation against the Houthis in Yemen should take place and its extent.

In the article, “The Trump Administration Accidentally Texted Me Its War Plans” Goldberg states that he was connected with Waltz with through Signal on March 11th, before eventually being added to a group titled “Houthi PC small group” where details about the strikes in Yemen were discussed, prior to them being launched by the U.S. Navy and Air Force on March 15th.

Posted by: andycanuck (/tzYP) at March 25, 2025 12:10 AM (/tzYP)

325 OSINTdefender @sentdefender 10h
Goldberg states that over the two day period he was in the groupchat prior to the strikes, senior officials in the Administration debated whether they should take place, with Vice President JD Vance suggesting that large-scale strikes should not be launched, because most Americans did not care about and were not being affected by the attacks on ships in the Red Sea, while Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth argued in favor of the strikes and their usefulness in deterring future attacks against shipping through the Bab al-Mandab Strait.

Posted by: andycanuck (/tzYP) at March 25, 2025 12:10 AM (/tzYP)

326 OSINTdefender @sentdefender 10h
Then roughly two hours before strikes against the Houthis in Yemen began on March 15th, Goldberg states he received a message in the chat from Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth titled, “TEAM UPDATE” adding that he would not be quoting the message exactly, due to it and forthcoming messages containing top-secret information which Goldberg states, “If they had been read by an adversary of the United States, could conceivably have been used to harm American military and intelligence personnel, particularly in the broader Middle East, Central Command’s area of responsibility. What I will say, in order to illustrate the shocking recklessness of this Signal conversation, is that the Hegseth post contained operational details of forthcoming strikes on Yemen, including information about targets, weapons the U.S. would be deploying, and attack sequencing.”

Posted by: andycanuck (/tzYP) at March 25, 2025 12:10 AM (/tzYP)

327 OSINTdefender @sentdefender 10h
Brian Hughes, Spokesman for the White House National Security Council was later asked by Goldberg about the conversation, to which he stated, “This appears to be an authentic message chain, and we are reviewing how an inadvertent number was added to the chain. The thread is a demonstration of the deep and thoughtful policy coordination between senior officials. The ongoing success of the Houthi operation demonstrates that there were no threats to troops or national security.”

342 336 315. The story was on the major news channels tonight. Fox and Newsmax both ran with it, asked Trump about it and asked Hegseth during a stopover in Hawaii. Schumer was squeaking about it in the Senate this evening. Goal will be to force Hegseth or Waltz to step down.

345 Russians are getting hacked through their toothbrushes

Hackers have learned how to breach smart home systems to access connected devices — including cameras, temperature sensors, and even electric toothbrushes, according to Russia’s Interior Ministry.

They use these gadgets to mine cryptocurrency, launch DDoS attacks, and monitor homes to plan robberies when residents are away.

Meanwhile, data on nearly one million Russians has leaked online due to compromised routers. The leaked information includes Wi-Fi logins and passwords, technical details of devices, and more — all stemming from a hack of router company Keenetic’s database.

As Puddleglum observed, there are *multiple* highly secure systems in place created just for this kind of communication, that have been used .... forever.

Been a while, and was never in on NSC-level comms, but using Signal seems absurd beyond belief. There is no truly secure messaging system in the commercial world, and not many in the guvamint world.

Besides, a topic of this nature and import, in the past, has routinely been handled in the ancient forum of A F**KING IN-PERSON MEETING IN THE WH OR SECURE ROOMS AT DOD OR ELSEWHERE. Jeebus.

I sincerely doubt this story - and all BS Stories from this particular author should be given at least 24 to 48 hours to get the full story. I would think that likely what happened is one of the following:

1) there was no chat group - it's all made up; 2) a chat group existed but it was informal and certainly didn't reveal battle plans before-hand (or "war plans" as the idiot from the Atlantic termed it and this idiot wasn't on the group but was brought in through a saboteur/mole Vindman type; or 3) was forwarded the texts by a Vndman type and wasn't actually on the chat.

435 Well, I am going to hit the sack. Been a long day. We drove from Lubbock, TX all the way to Mesa, AZ via US. 60/84. Clovis, NM, Socorro, NM, then on to Show Low, AZ, and Globe, and back to the Valley. Practically zero traffic on the road until we hit Show Low.

444 I'm really loving the theme/design of your web site.

Do you ever run into any web browser compatibility issues?
A small number of my blog visitors have complained about my site not operating correctly in Explorer but looks great in Firefox.
Do you have any advice to help fix this problem?

Who the hell doesn't!@! This is the top of the line, the sham in the shamalan of web sites!

While there might be a couple of minor improvements to be made in the interface, you can rest assured that they will be implemented in the next week or two.

447 I grew up in Des Plaines, IL. Breakfast Club was filmed there at Maine North High School, one of the four "Maine" schools (I went to West.) Even Grandma worked there for a few years as well in the administrative office. The movie holds a special place for more reasons than one!
