ONT Madness

Howdy Horde! Not much of an ONT tonight I'm afraid. I had car trouble tonight and just got in. What can you do? Most of y'all will be discussing March Madness anyway. I do have a few links to share.

Rogue Justice

Should Petty Judicial Tyrants Really Be Allowed to Act As Dictators?

This is an issue that is going to have to be hashed out sooner or later. The American system, after all, was constructed as a system of checks and balances - that is, checks on the power of each branch of government from other branches of the government, so that a tyranny cannot develop. Yet what we have in the form of Judge James E. Boasberg and other far-left judicial ideologues like him is an incipient judicial tyranny that has no checks on its power.

Should a district judge really be allowed to overrule the president of the United States when the president is working within the law to remove illegal migrants from the country, simply because he wants the migrants here in order to serve the interests of his political party? The Supreme Court ruled in 1948's Ludecke v. Watkins that "the very nature of the President's power to order the removal of all enemy aliens rejects the notion that courts may pass judgment upon the exercise of his discretion." Boasberg's ruling is not the way the American system ought to work. Impeaching Boasberg and removing him from office would be a tough battle, as a two-thirds majority would be needed in the Senate. Still, that would be a good forum to settle these issues once and for all, or at least to work toward a settlement, before these petty judicial dictators lead to the demise of the republic itself.

And that is the issue. If some lower court judge can usurp the powers of the executive branch at will, than we are no longer a constitutional republic. A tyranny of judges is no less a tyranny than one of kings.

La Revolution

Not Storming The Bastille

Either way, it means a core of the ancien-regime holds on, and who knows what hides in the deep recesses of the ancient and evil prison?
Who knows what our secret services have been up to? Who knows who they serve? We have reason to believe it is certainly not the people.
THE DOORS MUST BE THROWN OPEN before something happens that causes a crowd to coalesce and go insane.
Mr. President, you promised. And I will grant you that you are our Vimes, or perhaps even our Moist Von Lipwig, which means you're working behind the scenes to get the results you want. Or for those who don't read Pratchett: our president is so twisty he can go down a corkscrew without touching the sides.
But you promised. You are our new broom, and we're trusting you to sweep.
Your time is limited, and you're at the mercy of a sudden and explosive event. The clock is ticking.
I don't want us to storm the Bastille. And Madame La Guillotine should stay in France, where - if anywhere - it belongs.
But the only way to avoid the storming of the Bastille; to make sure it doesn't happen, is to open the doors, and show what is and isn't there.

There's a backlash out there lurking, and results on SOMETHING concrete and big are needed to quell it.

Happy Belated St. Paddy's Day

39 And that is the issue. If some lower court judge can usurp the powers of the executive branch at will, than we are no longer a constitutional republic. A tyranny of judges is no less a tyranny than one of kings.

It's worse than most think. There is no LAW which gives Judges the Power to order the President around... or even to hold someone in Contempt and put them in Jail until they comply.

Those powers stem from the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure... which are written by the Supreme Court. A law in 1934, when we were in the throws of the Depression, delegated Congresses power to write those ruled, to the Supreme Court... Congress may, by specific regulation, change or get rid of a rule... but it takes full on legislation to do so.

So all these powers the Courts are wielding... are Powers the Courts essentially gave themselves.

Oh, and those rules were last amended LAST YEAR, by the Roberts Court... so we are looking at the result of rules APPROVED by the very Supreme Court which we are now asking to limit the power they gave them.

59 So we've had a bunch of lefty judges make absurd rulings that Trump can't actually be the head of the executive branch and a few have been overturned.

I assume Trump is ignoring the others?

Seems like a decent strategy though I'd also stop engaging in the farce that these district courts are actually holding cases. Have a rep show up, announce the judge has no authority over foreign policy, executive staffing, or returning illegals from other countries and leave.

Teacher's unions, don't get me started. Oh wait, I have a bitch to make.

Spring break here in our district in Wyoming started today and is over Monday. Everyone is bitching because you couldn't plan a trip with the kiddos, which we always do.

The consensus here in town is some bitches took a longer Christmas break and therefore spring break was cut down.

This is a very small town and everyone is pissed. We go to Port Townsend every spring break with the grandkids to visit our son up there, but not this year.

Also, everything the kids do at school is on a fucking computer, math, science, everything.

How do they show their work on a *ucking computer.

Posted by: Romeo13 at March 20, 2025 10:13 PM (QAkQ3)

I believe some other Moron pointed out the 1934 "rules" are how judges decided they can put citizens in jail for contempt of court. I am getting to where I think ALL levels of our judiciary needs to get the shit kicked out of it (metaphorically, -ish) and its power reduced ~80-90%.

I still don't get the media trying to present Maisie Williams as some kind of beauty her role assumes she isn't and there were certainly others on the show that were.

Though I see that had a giant woman playing a female knight on the show - Gwendoline Christie is 6'3, so at least there they chose a woman more fitting to the idea of a fighter even if it is still silly. And she shows up in Gaiman's Sandman series as Lucifer. Supposedly beautiful and male and, well, neither.

113 China has provoked international outrage after it 'inhumanely' executed four Canadian nationals accused of drug-smuggling, with mass killings by Beijing's firing squads furiously condemned by campaigners and officials.

Firing squad is a traditional method of execution and is by no means inhumane presuming it is done correctly. I have no idea if these individuals deserved such a sentence, but east Asian countries don't play around with drug smugglers.

Also, this is what you get for breaking your alliance with the US Canuckistan. Without Trump to protect you the Chinese have no fear of you.

I drove to a store with my girlfriend and when we got back into the car we heard a noise rustling in the backseat and...it was a mouse. I tried to catch it but it was too fast and disappeared under a seat.

We drove back and my GF had her feet off the ground the whole time. I told her the mouse was terrified of us and would hide from us until we exited the car again but this did not mollify her.

I never did find the mouse, so perhaps it actually jumped out of the car while I was looking for it. I did find a small nest in the engine area though, but fortunately it had not damaged anything.

147 In my view, a good place to start, at least with the most blatant cases, is for the administration to just stop sending counsel to appear before these judges. If you show up in court to plead your side, you're implicitly acknowledging the judge's authority over the issue.

I get that this tactic is a little dangerous, as refusing to appear might piss off a judge who otherwise could possibly have ruled in their favor. But I think it would be a good way to halt, at least symbolically, the ceding of power to the judicial tyrants.

159 I used to think that about 20% of our tax money was pissed away by the Feds (remember Sen. Proxmire's Golden Turkey Awards?).

Now? I think it's more like 80%. Elon told Rogan he's discovered so much theft and chicanery and skulduggery that he's actually not sanguine that it CAN be repaired.

It's massive, and it's been going on for a century or more. But ... the first step is getting a good look at the beast, and DOGE is doing that.

Keep praying, folks. This really is a spiritual war at heart, against principalities and powers and the rulers of the darkness of this world. Our champions need our support.

160 re Alaska:
In such conditions, planes should carry just over 8,800 pounds to land safely.
But a combination of occupants, baggage and cargo put the Bering Air flight's at about 9,865 pounds - half a ton over 'the maximum takeoff gross weight for [a] flight into known or forecasting ice conditions,...
None of the cargo itself would have made the plane that heavy, as the report described just under 800 pounds of baggage or cargo

I wonder if modern airlines have calculated in the weight of the fatties spilling over those tiny seats they've stuffed us all into.

182 "This is an issue that is going to have to be hashed out sooner or later. The American system, after all, was constructed as a system of checks and balances - that is, checks on the power of each branch of government from other branches of the government, so that a tyranny cannot develop. Yet what we have in the form of Judge James E. Boasberg and other far-left judicial ideologues like him is an incipient judicial tyranny that has no checks on its power."

I cannot find in the Constitution any Executive Branch, i.e., Presidential, checks and balances on the Article Judiciary Branch. Nor can I find explicit Judiciary Branch checks and balances on the Legislative and Executive Branches. Voters do not have a check and balance on the Judiciary Branch as they do on the Legislative and Executive Branches.

Marbury v Madison seems to have effectively amended the Constitution by unconstitutional means.

Another mess created by lawyers, an immense one in this case, in which only lawyers prosper and nine un-elected life-term lawyers have the ultimate power in the United States.

I don't believe the Founders nor the state legislatures approving the Constitution envisioned this situation.

233 One of (many) the gaping security and good order flaws in our Federal system, those running for Federal office are not required to pass a background check or pass a basic clearance (SF86?) and the like.

The official position of the government is that one has been “deemed” to have passed a background check merely by winning the election.

In the military of course at least historically prior to the bolshies queering everything and turning it into a funhouse mirror inversion, gambling debts, domestic abuse, alcohol and drug abuse, sexual deviance, mental illness and numerous other character defects precluded one from obtaining the necessary secret or top secret clearance.

Clearly there are a high number of individuals in government positions whether high or low that have no business whatsoever in government service and this needs to get fixed. Before anyone can throw their hat in the ring, before being eligible to run for office, he needs to be vetted and screened.

Further let’s run background checks on everyone currently serving in government. If they can’t pass the type of background checks routinely performed on the military, they need to go away.

258 For more than a decade, American businessman Mark Swidan has been detained in China, and sentenced to death on drug charges despite a lack of evidence.

Earlier this month, the People’s Republic of China’s Jiangmen Intermediate Court upheld the death penalty for Swidan, a move the State Department said it is “disappointed by.”

In a statement, officials said they “will continue to press for his immediate release and return to the United States.”

Swidan isn’t the only American stuck in China — according to Newsweek, more than 200 U.S. citizens at various stages of prosecution remain wrongfully detained in China.

Wiki update:
Mark Swidan is an American designer, artist, photographer and businessman[1] from Houston, Texas. He was detained in China from 2012 to 2024. In 2019, Swidan was charged with drug trafficking in China and sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve by a court in Guangdong.[2] on April 14, 2023, the Guangdong court upheld the sentence.[2] The U.S. government and the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention considered Swidan wrongfully detained.[2] He was released on November 27, 2024, as part of a prisoner swap with China.[3]

Just pointing out that it is not hard for bad actors to conceal their bad actions with the aid of a partisan press. I expect NCAA Division I football will soon devolve into two parts. An NFL-like ultra-Division I with two 16 or 20 team power conferences, and minor conferences with all the other teams. The TV networks and the NCAA will set-up the two power conferences to do a college replica of the NFL playoffs. Intra-conference playoffs leading to the two power conference playoff winners in a college equivalent of the NFL Super Bowl. Because money, money, money. The power conference teams can still do tune-up regular season games against Cupcake U and Marshmallow State.

I saw my oncologist today, and he is quite pleased with my progress on this new medication. He says that my lowered CA19-9 level is a good thing, but we won't know if my tumors are shrinking until my CT scan at the end of April. Fingers crossed 🤞🤞🤞

I also got an iron infusion (#2 of 3) because my hemoglobin was low and I have been very tired the last few weeks. It already seems to be helping.

My dad grew up on a farm/ranch outside Laramie. Consider that it didn't bother him to live in Fairbanks, where temps go up to 90 in the summer and down to -60 in the winter. For us growing up in Alaska, weather was weather and you just did what you did regardless.

Make sure, if you move, that you have alternative means of heating, such as a woodstove or at least a fireplace. Likewise, make sure you have room to stock two months of food just in case. If you get weathered in, you should not have to worry. We do that up here because we are two missed barges away from empty shelves at the grocery store, including Costco.

Also, be prepared to defend your castle. You never know what might occur should the weather screw you and your neighbor.

Just sayin'.

I can imaging having a chicken knock the belt off your car was only the third of fourth weirdest thing that happened in Arcadia that week. Be sweet when you visit and stay on the interstates and turnpikes. We have "Road Rangers" just dial *FHP and we'll come and take care of you on the side of the road. It is likely you won't even have to get out of your car, which most likely isn't the best idea around places like Arcadia and Pahokee.

Posted by: JQ at March 21, 2025 02:15 AM (rdVOm)

If it was overheating from the missing belt it could have taxed the coolant overflow bottle and that could be the leak. No way that car didn't overheat if it was missing the belt. Then again, not sure about the design of that engine and what's actually turning the pump. It could be driven from the timing belt/chain, and if that's the case losing the serpentine belt wouldn't matter.

I think it wasn't actually a coolant leak; the customer thought it was because the car was overheating maybe, but the mechanic found it was a loose belt. But he topped off the coolant as long as the hood was up.

That's my take. But I'm wondering how a chicken knocked a belt off. I think of those belts as being pretty tight, not something a bird could loosen.

Overheating causing coolant overflow sounds plausible. However, you’re right: the serpentine belt should be very tight, not easily knocked off. I guess it could have been very loose.

Another thing is that those engine compartments are tight. It’s hard for me to see a chicken getting in there, let alone surviving if someone started a d ran the engine long enough for it to overheat.

Curiouser and curiouser..
