Saturday Night Jokes A new monk arrives at the monastery. He is assigned to help the other monks in copying the old texts by hand. He notices, however, that they are copying from copies, not the original manuscripts. So, the new monk goes to the head monk to ask him about this. He points out that if there were an error in the first copy, that error would be continued in all of the other copies. The head monk says, "We have been copying from the copies for centuries, but you make a good point, my son." So, he goes down into the cellar with one of the copies to check it against the original. Hours go by and nobody sees him. So, one of the monks goes downstairs to look for him. He hears sobbing coming from the back of the cellar, and finds the old monk leaning over one of the original books crying. He asks the old monk what's wrong, and in a choked voice came the reply..."The word is celebrate." *** A little boy got on the bus, sat next to a man reading a book, and noticed he had his collar on backwards. The little boy asked why he wore his collar that way. The man, who was a priest, said, "I am a Father." The little boy replied, "My Daddy doesn't wear his collar like that." The priest looked up from his book and answered, "I am the Father of many." The boy said, "My Dad has four boys, four girls, and two grandchildren. He doesn't wear his collar that way." The priest, getting impatient, said, "I am the Father of hundreds." Then he went back to reading his book. The little boy sat quietly thinking for a while, then he leaned over and said, "Maybe you should wear your pants backwards instead of your collar."
![]() ![]() What is a Moscow Mule? 1 ½ fluid ounces vodka ½ fluid ounce lime juice ice cubes ½ cup ginger beer 1 lime wedge for garnish Several mule variations can be found here. Do you like Moscow Mules? Then get ready to try a plethora of Moscow Mule variations! Although it was created in the 1940s, this timeless cocktail is still in vogue. Why? Maybe it's the zesty flavour. Maybe, because it only requires three ingredients and three minutes to prepare. Or perhaps it's due to those incredibly awesome copper mugs. In any case, these days, Mules are the showstoppers of cocktail party menus! You're going to be taken on quite the journey if you had no idea that any of these Mule cocktails existed. Additionally, identifying a Mule is not too difficult. It's probably a Mule cocktail if it has ginger beer mixed with a base spirit. Moreover, making Mules doesn't require expensive copper mugs! Even though they look fantastic and extend the cooling effect of the cocktail, standard ball glasses will suffice. These variations replace vodka with a different spirit: Kentucky Mule - bourbon London Mule - gin Dark ‘n Stormy - dark rum Mexican Mule - tequila Mezcal Mule - [duh!] There's a few more variations at the link. [Disco says: Meh. Despite all of those versions, the mule is just a half-ass drink.] Homer likes mules The annual Fish of the Year 2025 competition came to a dramatic close yesterday, with deep sea rivals orange roughy and blobfish campaigning hard right up to the last minute. The blobfish emerged victorious over orange roughy by nearly 300 votes.Final results for those of you scoring at home (or even for those who are alone): 1. Blobfish - 1286 votes 2. Orange roughy - 1009 votes 3. Longfin eel / Tuna - 646 votes 4. Whale shark - 596 votes 5. Big-bellied seahorse / Manaia - 386 votes 6. Great white shark / Mangō taniwha - 344 votes 7. Lamprey / Piharau - 312 votes 8. Spine-tailed devil ray / Whai rahi - 284 votes 9. Basking shark / Reremai - 280 votes 10. Blue cod / Rāwaru - 260 votes It is an inspiring recovery story. The Blobfish was voted the world's ugliest animal in 2013. [Disco says: Fish pun fodder for the Horde? Really? Other than Bloody Marys in airport lounges for morning flights the only 'mixed drink' I have ever ordered was a Moscow Mule.
Used to make them at home with Vernors and key lime juice. Any empty glass pint jar will work as long as it is clean and chilled in the fridge. No green sprigs though, whatever they are. RIP our neighbor Bob, died around 6:30pm today. In his 90s, been in failing health for a while, got much worse this week. Hard to describe what Bob has meant to our family. He and his wife raised their kids here, ran cattle, helped maintain the living area. He had worked for my father and my grandfather. My late older brother once described Bob as "the strongest man I ever knew." In many ways! It was hard watching is mind and body falter in recent years. One ping only, Vasili. Posted by: Cicero (@cicero43) at March 22, 2025 10:20 PM (dDmld) The single, huge ice cube is fun, I’ll admit. And it lasts so long! Good when you want to drag a drink out. On the first cocktail, I’m turning in a glass containing nothing more than a mostly-intact huge ice cube. By the third drink, I’m letting it melt, sipping off the bourbon-infused meltwater along the way. As for rye: it’s fine, but I don’t like the idea of letting the rye and spelt people getting wind that I’m enjoying one of their products. Gen X coding war story: 💩 as an Unicode emoji has a special meaning or me. It is one of the oldest 4-byte Unicode code point emojis. At the time, circa 2008 slash 2009, the Unicode consortium was producing emoji far faster than renderers could keep up with. At Amazon - yes, THAT Amazon dot com - we were still adjusting to the idea that Unicode was not equivalent to ASCII or even that newfangled Java UTF-16 which meant that we had to adjust everything to a hypothetical future wherein UTF-8 extended far beyond the standard ASCII. And I was in charge of this particular scope for Amazon search page. And what did I pick for my unit testing case all the way back then, even though there was no such thing as an emoji? 💩 I have no idea why the Unicode consortium made poo a thing so early on. There was no such thing as an "emoji" back then. But it holds a special place in my heart for unit testing against 4-byte UTF-8 stress testing Posted by: Braenyard - some Absent Friends are more equal than others _ at March 22, 2025 11:50 PM (3+8sI) 151

Former President Lyndon B. Johnson acknowledges that Richard Nixon, as a Republican President, has been able to accomplish some things that a Democratic President could not have ...
"'Can't you just see the uproar,' he asked during a recent interview, 'if I had been responsible for Taiwan getting kicked out of the United Nations? Or if I had imposed sweeping national controls on prices and wages?' "'Nixon has gotten by with it,' he observed, an appreciative tone in his voice. I resisted paying any attention to Unicode for a long time. Characters more than a byte? Are you kidding me? Then I made myself get into it. The big thing with me, the thing that made it click was to understand the difference between Unicode, the "code points", and the glyph/grapheme they represent, and the *encoding* of those numbers into a stream of bytes. Realizing that is when it clicked. And then I immediately saw how the UTF-8 encoding scheme (invented by Ken Thompson, BTW, on the back of napkin in 1992) was superior. Any 7-bit ASCII text is valid UTF-8. Thus live in ASCII, let it be UTF-8 if you want to call it that. You only have to worry if you want to go beyond into the multi-byte characters. Which I won't. Microsoft was responsible for the confusion between Unicode proper and the encoding, because they called UTF-16 (two bytes per "chunk", wide characters) "Unicode". But even then, the full Unicode is going to require more than one 16-bit UTF-16 wide character, it's sort of multi-word itself. Windows will spit out some text files in UTF-16. The editors I have understand that thankfully, but it's quite a shock when you realize the "text" file is not ASCII but UTF-16. And then you've got big endian and little endian to worry about and that just pissed me off. A lot of log files it can spit out are UTF-16. UTF-8 seems to be they way it's going, but UTF-16 was built into NT from the get-go, and it will remain inside. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at March 23, 2025 12:28 AM (w6EFb) 186

I saw a video from Tiktok with a zer, can't really tell which it is, saying its time for someone to do *the thing* now because zee can't take another 4 years like this.
Then zee goes on to say zer can't do it zerself because zer is...a busy dance teacher. I can't tell if it is satire or not. On the one hand the dialog is so over the top, on the other hand when conservatives pretend to be trannies they just don't look like the real ones. I didn't mean UTF-8 was superior to ASCII, I meant if I'm going to have live in a world with this Unicode shit, the UTF-8 encoding is the best of the shit.
