Braenyard, thanks for advice on the ONT.
Got t-posts and a driver, but my gate post is sunk into concrete *plus* is right next (and perpendicular) to neighbor's plastic fence. Can't sink a t-post where it needs to go. The way to do it correctly is to pull that concrete, post and all, and re-do it with another post & concrete. Ugh. When my 'fix' fails, will do it right. That live 1967 performance of Light My Fire is from The Ed Sullivan show and showcases the band's stellar musicianship. This particular performance got them banned from The Ed Sullivan show for pretending to knuckle under to Ed Sullivan's demand that they change the line "girl, we couldn't get much higher" to "girl, we couldn't get much better."
Finding acceptable to high quality film of the greatest bands from that time playing live is a challenge since these performances were treated as transitory pop concerts instead of something that were, in essence, a critical component that defines 20th classical music. Here is another performance of Roadhouse blues by the doors in 1970 at the Isle of White Rock festival. https://youtu.be/c-xUvX1SSMI Posted by: Alteria Pilgram - My President has convictions. at March 19, 2025 04:55 AM (hjWnr) 27

If it's just the post and the concrete is vertical as it should be and the post is wood. On your side could you pony up a 2x4 next to the weak spot and use lags bolts the depth of the 2x4 and the post.
https://tinyurl.com/yc3s2jd4 Drill through the 2x4 & to depth on the post with a smaller than threads then drill the size of the bolt on the 2x4 so it slips in then bites into the post. Same concept as sheet metal. Oh, if the 2x4 is too big a piece of bed frame angle iron, it's about one inch will do it especially if you extend it up some. Find someone to drill the holes in the metal it's pretty hard. Posted by: Braenyard - some Absent Friends are more equal than others _ at March 19, 2025 05:02 AM (EvUVd) 30

The breathless tech story I've been following is that Apple is going to invent foldable computing devices in late 2026 with the initial device being 18.8 in on one dimension and running MacOS. I take this to imply that the folded size will be roughly the size of an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper. What I think they're really going to invent is the first $5,000 foldable computing device.

Just looking at yanking the concrete plug and starting over. Metal fence posts and quikcrete are cheap enough; the hard parts would be yanking the original post ass'y and re-mounting the gate. Posted by: JQ at March 19, 2025 05:31 AM (rdVOm) 45

@46/13times: "I don't get why Trump is pressing Poilievre."
Part 1 of 2: Domestic politics. The Liberals are seeing a resurgence in popularity due to their "We've got to take this economic trade war to the Americans" stance that is popular with their base. It's a rehash of their tired "Americans bad, they cause all our problems" trope they trot out every time their own domestic policies cause misery and failure (and they do, regularly.) Carney has reduced the Carbon tax to zero effective April 1 (not the same thing as removing it from law, it could be upped again just as quickly the way he's doing it) but this took away one of the major legs of the policy stool Poilievre was standing on: "Axe the tax". Unlike Trudeau and his environment lapdog Guilbeault, Carney recognizes that "Save the Planet" is a political cesspool and is backing away from it because it's not politically expedient. Carney is not an elected PM, as such, he's under great pressure to call an election. The Liberals are doing everything possible to fix the damage Trudeau and his cabinet caused, so they can call that election and possibly win another term with all their turnarounds. (continued...) Posted by: Grumpy and Recalcitrant at March 19, 2025 06:14 AM (O7YUW) 66
@46/13times: Part 2 of 2
Poilievre now has to take a similar tough stance on American tariffs in order to not look like he's just kowtowing to Trump's desires, which the Liberals would make hay of in an election with the claim "Look, he's bought and paid for by Trump!" Trump's talk about making Canada the 51st state is also being taken as a threat up here, and is playing into the Liberal "anti-American" sentiment they're whipping up. Now consider that Trump is very good at getting what he wants in a deal. In 2026, there will be a review of how well the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) is doing for the parties involved. Trump is stirring things up in order to get concessions by the other parties in advance of those reviews. This is part of his "America First" doctrine. So the claim that Trump might want a weaker opponent to get what he wants in these negotiations? It has merit, and it might be what's actually going on. Poilievre is intelligent, but he has to play the cards he's handed. And that's my take on what's going on. Posted by: Grumpy and Recalcitrant at March 19, 2025 06:14 AM (O7YUW) 67

I don’t know why Trump kept up the 51st state jabs, but it’s definitely helping the Liberals.
I just wish he’d waited for the hard press on Canada until after their election, whenever that will be. The election has to be held by October but I’m thinking Carney will be forced to call one for June or so. As Grumpy and Recalcitrant said, Carney is an unelected technocrat who’s only had one election, ever, and that was among Liberal party members. He can’t expect to run the nation for too long without a legitimate mandate. Rushi Sunak tried it for a year and a half, but at least he held a seat in parliament, and then got absolutely curb stomped in the election last year. Trump should be a little wiser in his words, re: Canuckland, until they settle on a party and leader to represent them up there. I want Poilievre to win for the sake of Canada and Canadians. The country has gone straight downhill since Stephen Harper left office and Trudeau took over, especially since COVID. Posted by: SpeakingOf at March 19, 2025 07:17 AM (6ydKt) 115

The lawyers at Powerline say the latest Federal judge to intrude in PDJT's attempt to stop USAID from wasting money has issues a strong opinion and Trump needs to fix the basic issue, or else all DOGE efforts are imperiled. The problem is Musk, and he either needs to be confirmed by the Senate as an "officer" of the United States, or else Doge needs to be very clearly an advisory group to Departments and Agencies. Moreover, the Judge says Congress will likely have to bless shutting down agencies. Trump cannot do that by his own authority.

American television programs didn’t always use film in those days nor pay any special attention to recording audio. A lot of times, not always, they lip synched to some or all of the tune. These were more or less advertisements was the way it was viewed. They weren’t wrong.
One exception to this you’ll see, is the BBC. Both Neil Young and Joni Mitchell are recorded in what was high definition for the time, and good audio. It is quite the contrast. Posted by: Common Tater at March 19, 2025 07:33 AM (SfY1i) 136
