Put' Em to Work! Lowe’s Invests $9M to Address Skilled Trades Shortage as Wages Rise Amid Worker Shortage
$9 million in grants from Lowe’s is going to support 15 nonprofits dedicated to training the next generation of tradespeople to meet the growing demand for workers—fueled by rising wages and expanding job opportunities. The grants support training programs focusing on carpentry and construction, HVAC, electrical, plumbing and appliance repair. From Alaska to Mississippi, each organization is helping prepare new tradespeople to fill the dearth in the US workforce. In construction alone, average hourly earnings have risen 4.4% over the past 12 months, according to Associated Builders and Contractors. “We listen closely to contractors and know that many candidates don’t have the necessary skills to fill the wide range of open trades positions,” said Janice Dupré, a Lowe’s executive vice president and chair of the Lowe’s Foundation in a press release. “Through modern training methods, these nonprofits are unlocking the workforce’s potential while building an economy that rewards skills, not just titles or four-year degrees.”

Opening the floodgates and letting in limitless aliens should lower wages. But when you also give them loads of 'free' shit (housing , food, education, phones, etc.) why would they bother to work?
One way to correct this is to round the aliens up, chip them, and rent them out as 'indentured servents'. Yeah, that's the ticket, indentured servents. If they try to skip out on their work duty they their period of service can be extended, even to life. Skip out again after that then you can be parted out on the used organ market, rendering plant, whatever.
Not likely to happen but it should be debated in congress.
The press a long would probably result in mass self-deportations.
The press now is sowing FUD that totally legit immigrants are being rounded up. Give them something more substantial to chew on.

Grateful, as a kid, we had canned corned beef and cabbage. Also sauerkraut and weenies, lol. We were poor. No Irish heritage I know of, we didn't have any special observance of St. Patrick's other than wearing green to not get a pinch.

U2 is too easy. Even though they were the favorites of the lovely late Mrs. Doof, I'm just tired of them (she actually grew tired of them too a few years before she passed away - but she didn't admit that to anyone but me). Plus I featured them a week or so ago on the anniversary of the Joshua Tree being released.

Publius, I didn't mean to step on your docking approach posts last night night but did. I have the social aptitude and graces of a pet rock.
I should have provided some info about myself. Again, I'll come off as an ass, but here goes. I did more than a little bit to manage development of Shuttle Orbiter docking approach techniques to a space station mass target, and then to the Soviet Space Station Mir back in the 80s and 90s. My team developed R-bar and V-bar approach procedures in the hi-fi man-in-loop orbital simulator at the Johnson Space Center, using both experienced Shuttle astronauts and orbital mechanics engineers as pilots. We showed the pros and cons of R-bar and V-bar approaches to Shuttle and Space Station (eventually ISS) managers.
We also nailed-down repeatable Orbiter 6-DOF accuracy at simulated docking contact, to use as design requirements for docking systems. I will always bear the scars of what I call The Docking Wars, to build a consensus about all the above, from the astronaut office to the program mangers to the design engineers to the flight controllers.
I barely survived.

Let me ask you something. I was reading the history of this the other night, as I got interested. Buzz Aldrin did his doctoral these on rendezvous techniques in terms of converting the orbital mechanics into flight procedure type stuff.
They worked out the techniques with Gemini. I remember reading something, I think it was Wally Schirra was talking it. They failed at first. Wally (I think) said the engineers claimed once you had closed to a mile, it was a easy peasy.
But he said, nope, it was more like 100' or less before things got more "intuitive".... more in next post.

There is a big "whole-house" water filter on the cold inlet line, but it seems the silt was accumulated in the outlet hose from it to the washer. I flushed it into a bucket until it ran clear. Filter has a lever on top. Maybe it is set to "bypass"? Will check tomorrow.

Anyway, via the Equivalence Principle, when two objects get close enough where the tidal field can be neglected and it's close enough to a uniform field, things should behave as though just in free fall in said uniform field, ie intuitive.
But in orbit, that tidal field tensor is time varying from the local coordinates, rotating around pretty rapidly, and I was just wondering how close you have to be where it's almost "normal".
For example, take the astronauts floating around on the space station. They're close enough where the tidal differences are vanishingly small, and things work "normal" (ie Newtonian inertial frame).

Even on the station, the tidal forces, while small, are still present -- hence "microgravity". Don Pettit did some stuff with bubbles in liquids or something like that I remember, showing the tidal field did effect things. Very small, but it's there.

That judge is a piece of work. So far, it appears that Bondi and Patel have a real inability to do their jobs. So far no arrests, no indictments, no convictions...
Rather than be disappointed in their worthlessness, I think it can be leveraged for good. Since Patel's FBI isn't doing anything and Bondi's DOJ is also doing nothing, I submit that they also have prosecutorial discretion in regards to federal crimes - like disappearing certain judges.
They just stay true to form and keep any of their subordinates from investigating any disappearances. I think after about four "go away" the remaining rogue "judges" might get the point.

That sounds right. On V-bars, which I think they did on Gemini dockings, orbital mechanics makes the chaser vehicle drop below the V-bar. So the chaser sort-of hops up and down relative to the V-bar. The trick is to not get behind the situation and have to do bigger burns to get back in the 'best' burn profile. Especially bad if you are short on propellant. As you get closer the 'drop force' gets smaller and you can brute force it if you want or need to. Some of the astros I watched were masters of the game, using about min possible prop to do the job.

I know y'all will hate me for it, Blonde Morticia especially, but I don't find Melania to be overly chic.
She always looks beautiful, don't get me wrong, but I don't think she is what I would consider stylish. She has what I consider to be the "Eastern European Woman Got a Hold of Some Money" look. I'm probably somewhat biased against her taste from years ago, when I saw a magazine article of their homes. Good lord.
I need to look for pictures of her dressed more casually, perhaps, yo get a sense of her personal style, but I don't think she has one. I think when you're that beautiful, and everything looks good on you, you never really develop your own sense of style in the sense that I mean.
And yet I'm not sure how I'd dress her. Which is odd, I can almost always immediately tell what would suit someone. I don't like her in that Chanel, but in all fairness, I don't like that tweed Chanel lady jacket look on most women. You have to be shaped like a boy for it to hang right.
I wish I could've dressed Michele Obama. There was potential there for her to look so much better.

Last night's true crime story with Emily Watson getting a first hand view of a pair of serial murderers getting found, followed by tonight's bit with a 13-year-old boy stabbing a girl classmate to death in a late night parking lot scene, and his apprehension, interviews, and eventual conviction, was just too much.
Ms G's got a cousin whose son is a screenwriter and director, is married to a movie star, the pair walked the red carpet recently, and is in the process of doing a true crime film, on the Murtagh murders in SC, and I though of him while watching tonight's series. Each of the four one hour segments was done in a single shot, one camera beginning to end. I though wow, I'll bet he's watching this and thinking, how can I top that?
And imagine the actors needing to memorize all the lines, particularly those leads that are on-camera almost the whole hour.

Saw Jett in concert, too, back in '82 at one of those all day affairs at the old JFK Stadium in Philthy. The Kinks were there and Foreigner was the headliner. Madonna opened for the 8 or so bands who played that day, including Huey Lewis and the News and a recently wheelchair-bound "Philly's Own" Teddy Pendergrass (injured in a car accident). Strange lineup.

We gave ourselves a double dose of brit series murder binge last night and tonight, watching "Appropriate Adult" and "Adolescence" on the streaming screen. I'm worn out.
Last night's true crime story with Emily Watson getting a first hand view of a pair of serial murderers getting found, followed by tonight's bit with a 13-year-old boy stabbing a girl classmate to death in a late night parking lot scene, and his apprehension, interviews, and eventual conviction, was just too much.
Each of the four one hour segments was done in a single shot, one camera beginning to end. I though wow, I'll bet he's watching this and thinking, how can I top that?
And imagine the actors needing to memorize all the lines, particularly those leads that are on-camera almost the whole hour.

Indictments aren't an overnight deal. I'd say give it another couple of weeks before showing disappointment. They'll have to go through a grand jury on anything significant...who then comes back with a recommendation to indict or not. There used to be a website where you could see a total of pending cases sent to a grand jury by state. I can't seem to find it now. I wanted to see if there was an increase in caseload over the last month and a half.

Or this one prison. From the standpoint of justice, it is superb. You do even want to know what these men have done.
I do wonder how safe it is. The prison is only as secure as the morals of the guards. If I were the warden, I would choose my guards from family members of the victims. Someone who has skin in the game, and knows first hand the suffering the men have caused.
Because these men were vicious before they were sent here, and years in this kind of environment ain't softening them up any.
Maduro has plenty of money, and one guard could possibly fuck it all up.

I hope you are both disappointed. You want show trials? Might I suggest you watch Death of Stalin. One, both are dealing with institutions that have been seriously damaged. That needs to be dealt with first and foremost. Secondly, they are dealing with malfeasance at the highest level, both inside and outside of the government. I want convictions, not indictments. I want long hard hours spent putting together rock solid cases against names we will recognize.

Well, yeah, but with all the pardons Joe authorized, and I'm sure he authorized quite a few, it was easy to sneak a few hundred ringers in here and there as Joe had around 8,000 pardons, a new Guinness record! 'They' thought nobody would connect signatures with Biden's White House schedule. The Deep State may be wickedly evil, but sometimes they aren't all that bright.

Johnson said that he could tell by Biden's expression that he was taken aback and said that Johnson was mistaken or something to that effect. - It will be testimony.

I agree. I went to that show specifically for Foreigner and The Kinks; the other bands were a bonus to me. Took a bus down to Philly from NYC and everything.
That was back in The Before Times when one could ride public transport in a safe manner, buses, trains -- including the Philly subway. 9/11 screwed so many things up, including giving our Deep State unlimited cash to carry out forever wars and the means to create propaganda to reinforce forever wars. And paying reporters to help with that angle. A matrix. The Truman Show. All a facade. Paid for by U.S. taxpayers. Probably one of the greatest long-term thefts in history. And still on-going as Dems are fighting NOT to stop it (which is the craziest 'flex' I've ever seen).
Should have listened to President Eisenhower. It was bad before 9/11, but 9/11 got the real cash rolling into all sorts of programs. 9/11 opened the floodgates of the Treasury to The Military-Industrial Complex, blank checks all over the place. Lots of skimming going on.

Truman wrote two WaPo op-eds, the first on the anniversary of Kenndy's assassination saying the CIA was doing things he never intended with vague intimation of there involvement in the assassination and that they should be disbanded.
Sometime later he wrote another one along the same line.
