OOOOpsie! CNN's Deranged Propagandists Have Another On-Air Shart
Via Instapundit, CNN's Kaitlin Collins has once again revealed herself to be a clueless but arrogant Democrat shill.
It begins with CNN's biased anti-Trump know-nothing Bill Weir asserting, WITHOUT EVIDENCE, that the Trump press release stating that he would reform "OOOO" was a "typo" or "place-holder" for the real section name which would be added later. Kaitlin Collins says "Oooops," mockingly.WEIR: Uh, today, Lee Zeldin put out a video on X, and they were putting out press releases with such a flurry, about 31 different actions and rollbacks, that some of them had typos or placeholders at the top. We have one of those there. Trump EPA announces zero, zero, zero, you can see there. COLLINS: Oops WEIR: It's sort of shoot first, fill out the press release later.But here's the thing that these "journalists" and "truth-tellers" never bothered to look up: "OOOO" is not a "place-holder" nor a "typo." "OOOO," or "Quad O," is the actual name of the section Trump is talking about reforming. It's not zero-zero-zero-zero, it's Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh, and it's a real part of the law. The "fact checkers" do not bother with two second searches to check their own fake "facts."
This is why the "fact-checking" industry is such a joke. It is filled with supposed "experts" who have no idea what they are actually talking about, yet are more than willing to make false assertions with total confidence. The press release shown in the clip does not read, "Zero, zero, zero." Those are the letter "O," and they are the identifier for a specific regulation under the Clean Air Act.

They pass a law, and no one is entirely sure what it means because it'll say something like "This section repeals section 1(a)(B)(ii) of the New York Labor Law, and replaces it with [entirely different naming / numbering convention that doesn't fit in with the existing law, and doesn't make sense or use the same grammatical construct when read as if it was part of the existing law]".

Most legislatures have that issue because quite simply few if any law schools teach a class on a) writing legal opinions (Judge Aldisert wrote a text for such a class back in the day) and b) how to draft laws.
Far too much time is spent on worshipping the common law and precedent and not enough to understand codification and statutory interpretation.

My total off the wall guess is the Roberts Court will punt to Congress. They will say Trump does not have the power to alter birthright citizenship but Congress does via clarifying the subject to the jurisdiction language to birthright citizenship.
Simpatico with other Scotus rulings and removes the problem of taking existing birth right citizenships from people before the decision as the new law would apply prospectively rather than retrospectively.

There is sort of precedent about the child of 2 Chinese nationals, both of whom had legal status in the US (IIRC) when the child was born.
Court said "yeah, he's a US citizen."
That was, I think, late 1800s? Early 1900s?
But other than that, I don't think there is much.
It's not an in issue of first impression with the court, BUT the court has more leeway here than they usually do.
That said, it would be VERY easy for the court to punt on this question, or definitively rule that anyone born on US soil is a US citizen, even if their parents snuck across the border during labor.
So we'll see.

But other than that, I don't think there is much.
That said, it would be VERY easy for the court to punt on this question, or definitively rule that anyone born on US soil is a US citizen, even if their parents snuck across the border during labor.

We have the trees. The problem is that with a combination of NAFTA and environmental laws and spotted owls and all of that nonsense, we have decided to export tree processing largely to Canada.
Which meant, pre USMCA (I think it's changed now), Canadian companies were paying Canadian truckers (who were subsidized by Canada) to drive to Maine to buy lumber from loggers, which was then driven back to Canada to be processed, then brought back to the US to be sold.
How long would it take to spin up some massive lumber yards to process all of the wood? I don't know. But it's certainly possible. Pre-NAFTA we had no problem doing it.

Yeah federal courts have been playing a little game trying to keep these rulings from getting to the Supreme Court but Trump just forced the issue. It has to be done, the entire thing has to be settled in several ways:
1) Can a court with jurisdiction over one part of the USA rule in a way that affects the entire USA?
2) Can a court tell the excutive department how to carry out their executive duties?
3) Can a court rule in such a way to block proper and constitutional executive branch action?

Basically, Justice Gray wrote a long history lesson of jus solis but a really crappy one regarding the meaning of the 14th Amendment as applied to the case and how that automatically overrode prior American and British caselaw on the subject. The 13th through the 15th Amendments were passed post Civil War to kill Dred Scott decision in where he declared that whatever a state or even birth does, that blacks were not citizens of the US nor ever could be. Thus, you have the 14th provision and subject to the jurisdiction thereof to distinguish Native Americans aka non taxed natives who were not citizens despite birth here at the time among others. Sloppy decision by a historically bad court that issued Plessy v. Ferguson among other rotten apples.

There is no magic button that removes our foreign dependency amd trade imbalance with zero cost and zero pain.
A 25% tariff (resulting in much lower than 25% increase in cost to US consumer) seems like a very low cost to help balance trade and reduce foreign dependency.
This is true for all the policy decisions we must make. Some will suffer from being fired. Some will lose their subsidies, jobs, careers. This is too bad, but much better than the alternative of staying on this suicidal path.

Ironically their slowness fooled the Bismarck's antiair so they were hard to hit. I played (well might still play) an insanely detailed where a Brit carrier caught a Japanese force unescorted behing New Calendonia. Swordfish popped over the island and sunk or damaged two Japanese battleships.

You don't have to LOSE Pearl Harbor to get us into a war that we are 80 percent of the way in. And having the US want to destroy Japan was a nuisance to the Brits. Not to mention the debacle of the opening months on them in particular.
We had a war warning active all November with the base on alert fully. Japanese plans were delayed a few weeks and the base admiral let his guys get a day off on Dec 7.
