More of a house-scape than landscape!
It has a ramshackle, rural, New Mexico look to it. Not disparaging NM, now; I mean this could be anywhere rural where there are not many trees. I guess the low buildings toward the front are garages and sheds, and the main buildings in back are apartment blocks. Based on the search results, here's a summary of Sidney Laufman's landscape paintings, drawing from information that reflects critical perspectives: * Emphasis on Landscape: * Sidney Laufman is primarily recognized as a landscape painter. His works consistently feature landscapes, with trees often playing a prominent role. * He aimed to "reaffirm the value of landscape painting" within art history. * Realism and Expression: * His style is generally considered realist. * However, he did explore more abstract and expressionist interpretations of trees, particularly in the later part of his career (1950s and 1960s). * Conveying Emotion and Connection: * Laufman's landscapes are seen as more than just depictions of scenery. He sought to capture the emotional and spiritual connection between humans and nature. * His work is described as "the art of the lyric, the contemplative and the humanist." * Recognition and Modesty: * He achieved recognition, including prizes from prestigious institutions like the National Academy of Design. 1 of 2 Posted by: BifBewalski at March 18, 2025 09:52 AM (MsrgL) 89

Wiki does not have an article on Laufman. Where did he live and work? Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at March 18, 2025 09:52 AM (J2vNu) 90
* He was known for his unassuming and modest nature, which contributed to him being less widely known than his talent might have warranted.
* The Johnson Collection information: * The johnson collection provides a very good overview of his view of landscape painting. that it is more than just forms and colors, but that it represents mans relation to the world. In essence, Laufman's landscapes are valued for their ability to evoke a sense of wonder and contemplation, reflecting a deep appreciation for the natural world. 2 / 2 Posted by: BifBewalski at March 18, 2025 09:52 AM (MsrgL) 91

had a friend in college that was an artist. He did New Mexico landscapes in pen and ink sometimes. They looked wonderful. New Mexico landscapes lend themselves to rendering in black and white.
Posted by: Xipe Totec at March 18, 2025 09:53 AM (pohLc) A few years ago, the Evansville Indiana art museum had a display of work by an artist who used "graphite on paper" as his medium. The guy drew close up views of rocks in a stream that looked like a black and white photo. Those pieces were fascinating to me. I love black and white photos and seeing the equivalent done with a graphite pencil on sketch book paper was amazing. Unfortunately, I can't remember the artist name. I lived in a shotgun shack in New Orleans for year back in the day. Long linear layout, with an off-center front door which looked down a long narrow hallway with kitchen and one bedroom on the left, second bedroom door at the end of the hall, that when opened lined up directly to the back door.. Kind of a lower class, working class neighborhood.
Higher end shotgunn homes didn't really have a hallway, rather just large central openings with rooms laid out right downn the middfle from front to back. Posted by: muldoon at March 18, 2025 10:18 AM (/iMjX) Posted by: Anna Puma at March 18, 2025 10:18 AM (Ocj/H) 214

My office represented his estate after an LA firm had gone through a lot of money. One of my partners handed me two tickets to the Bearsville Theater which is on the same property. Warm up show for The Pretenders world tour. 100 people at the show , awesome. Still gets great shows there

There was always going to be violence with Trump in office. It's just taking the Democrats more time to get their collective shit together and give the marching orders to the typical parties.
And find some spare change to fund their revolt. Posted by: Martini Farmer at March 18, 2025 10:59 AM (Q4IgG) 405

351 Ah, Russia… is there anything bad that they are NOT responsible for???
Posted by: tubal ====== Too many people use two value logic here--if Ukraine is bad then Russia is good or vice versa. Truth is that Russia has pissed in its cornflakes for centuries trying to bully and harass neighboring nations. Underneath the radar, ships were dragging their anchors to cut both power and communication lines recently in the Baltic between Finland, Sweden, etc. and the Baltic states. I am sure that someone will then blame those nations for being mean to poor ole Russia (in some cases back in the 1600's) and that they deserve these low level attacks or guilt by association aka NATO deserved it. As a result, Euroland is pretty much united in buying oil/gas from Russia and then loathing the Russians for how they act. We cannot claim to act better as we have bought oil from assholes supporting terrorism in the ME and elsewhere like Venezuela for nearly 70 years and basically we loathe those nations too. To sum up, most of our knowledge of foreign affairs between other nations is skimpy, prone to emotionalism, and subject to some really poor media coverage. 405 Didn't the Non RFK Kennedy's ask that these not be released ?
Posted by: It's me donna ======= Most likely a lot of embarrassing connections that JFK had like Judith Exner and mobsters that prompted musing by random fed agents that JFK got whacked by the mob. Probably other information like Lee Harvey was a CIA asset embarrasses the CIA, random considerations of other countries intel that might be involved--USSR, etc. and so on. Basically throwing darts on the wall by some fed agents investigating in memos and some of that info probably mentions a variety of intel relationships some of which are unsavory, assets, and nations that might have motive to kill JFK. Saw "The Electric State"..now streaming on Netflix.
I didn't hate it. It's (a low bar I know) better than anything Marvel or Disney have put out lately, so maybe a B-B-. But, it illustrates two writing problems in modern movies. 1) Any white male can't be a hero who actually affects the outcome or tells the female character anything or isn't much more than a big blowhard. Remember Kurt Russell's character in "Big Trouble in Little China" how funny it was that you thought he'd be the big hero but he wound up doing almost nothing in the movie. Yeah...all that all the time. They totally wasted Chris Pratt by basically having him do nothing but follow the Bobby Brown character around. They gave him one really funny line and that's about it. Which leads us to 2. 2) The Girl Boss appears to be dead but it's now been replaced by the Snarky, Unpleasant Know-it-All as the main character. And Bobby Brown isn't a good enough actress to carry a movie on her shoulders. She gives good happy face and sad face and that's about it. There's nothing compelling about an older guy following around some young woman to no real effect. An okay watch. Check it out if you wish. Posted by: tubal Possibly. Irony and sarcasm come across poorly via gray boxes. Ire is not so much directed at your post but a common thread I have seen. People acting as defense attorneys for various unsavory actions done by their adopted foreign countries. One of the reasons that Washington argued for no permanent foreign entanglements. He had fights in his own administration and in the country over France and its allies fighting the UK and its allies.
