After a Six Week Review, SecState Marco Rubio Cancels 83% of USAID Grifter Spending

Only 83%?

Do better, Marco. #DoBetter.

Sec. of State Marco Rubio announces major overhaul at USAID, cancels 83% of programs

After a six-week review, Sen. Marco Rubio announced the cancellation of 83% of USAID programs, citing wasteful spending and harm to U.S. national interests. The move eliminates 5,200 contracts worth tens of billions of dollars, with remaining programs shifting under the State Department for better oversight. Rubio thanked staff for their efforts in implementing what he called a "historic reform."

Key Details:

Sen. Marco Rubio revealed that 5,200 USAID contracts have been canceled after a six-week review.

The cuts affect tens of billions in foreign aid, which Rubio argued was not serving U.S. national interests.

The remaining 1,000 programs will be administered under the State Department with improved oversight.

...

"The 5,200 contracts that are now canceled spent tens of billions of dollars in ways that did not serve, and in some cases even harmed, the core national interests of the United States," Rubio stated. His move reflects growing scrutiny among conservatives regarding how taxpayer money is used in foreign aid, particularly under USAID, which has long been criticized for funding controversial projects abroad.

The rest of the programs are being taken away from USAID and will be administered by the State Department.

This leaves USAID in control of nothing, and presumably, it will be shut down.

Rubio thanked the Department of Global Engagement (DOGE) and USAID staff who worked tirelessly to carry out what he described as a long-overdue reform. The announcement is likely to spark debate in Washington, as Democrats and globalist policymakers have traditionally defended USAID's expansive role in international development.

The climate hysterics are fond of talking about "forcing", which means something that causes more of an effect than one would have thought based on its concentration. It's all BS, of course, at least as far as it applies to climate.

However, cancelling USAID will have a bigger impact than just the number of dollars in their budget. Much of it went to support Dem politicians and lefty causes, so it had an outsize impact on the nation. Conversely, now that the money is gone, it will also have an outsize negative impact on the Dems going forward. It's all just so sad.

57 Ukraine doesn’t actually have any commercial deposits of the rare earths that both Washington and Kyiv have hyped up. The country does not currently produce rare earths, which are a type of critical mineral, nor has it produced rare earths in recent decades. Kyiv only has Soviet-era rare-earth geological mapping, and the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war is certain to complicate any mining or processing efforts—all of which require years of hefty investments, even in countries that are not in war. “Mining is a long-term effort—so the United States may not yield benefits for another 20 years,”

The State of Washington is a sanctuary state, of course, but Adams County, Washington, with all of 20,000 people, has continued to provide information to Federal immigration authorities.

The new Washington attorney general is now suing Adams County.

The AG's press release has the Orwellian headline:

Washington state sues Adams County to stop illegal federal immigration enforcement

It goes on:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Mar 10 2025
SPOKANE — Washington Attorney General Nick Brown said in a lawsuit filed today that the Adams County Sheriff’s Office is illegally collaborating with federal immigration officials and aiding the Trump administration’s efforts to enlist local officials for federal civil immigration work.

The lawsuit filed in Spokane County Superior Court says the Adams County Sheriff’s Office has illegally held people in custody based only on their immigration status, helped federal agents question people in custody, and routinely given immigration officials confidential personal information of hundreds of Washingtonians. “All of this conduct expressly violates state law,” the lawsuit says.

89 It's all Trump's fault, of course:

Late last year Adams County was engaged in good faith settlement negotiations with our office,” Brown said. “But after the inauguration of Donald Trump, the county and its Sheriff’s Office suddenly hardened their stance, broke off settlement talks, and aligned themselves with an organization founded by a top Trump aide who is among the most virulent anti-immigrant voices in the administration.”

Until this change in position, Adams County told the Attorney General’s Office that it was working to follow state law — just like the hundreds of Washington sheriffs’ offices, police departments, jails, and state agencies that have all successfully done since Keep Washington Working was enacted in 2019.

In February 2025, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office retained attorneys from America First Legal, an organization founded by Stephen Miller. Miller is an aide and homeland security advisor to President Trump, who has repeatedly denigrated immigrant families and dismissed the essential role immigrants play supporting our communities and local economy.

Not really true SMOD. If the deposits are there, mining can be spun up pretty quickly in a place like Ukraine (or Russia as Putin has offered a deal on them). In the US, yes, as a major problem has been the EPA and NEPA policy from it that required onerous environmental reviews by government departments.

'Rare' earth minerals are actually not that rare but economically and environmentally safe ways of mining them makes the task more difficult when compared with China dumping them on the market and now in a position of strength is selectively denying and raising prices on them.

US even has a rare earth mineral mine that was shut down because during the China dumping spree, it was not worth operating. Ditto that some processes use mine tailings from prior mining and extraction of these.

There are a LOT of other government departments yet to cut that may yield more bangs per buck than trying to zero out all of AID. Trump has a narrow base in the House and Senate and limited window of time to act in DC because of legislative deadlines for things like extending the tax cuts, etc.

Posted by: TheJamesMadison, leading the proletariat with Eisenstein at March 10, 2025 03:55 PM (GBKbO)

Right, I feel like I'm smashing my head against a wall here.

USAID is not about foreign aid. It has very little, if anything at all, to do with foreign aid. From the beginning, it has been a way for the CIA to project "soft power" around the world by funding and fomenting revolutions against "the bad guys," however the CIA chose to define that.

And now we have incontrovertible truth that at least SOME of that money was being used to foment political instability in the US. And it has likely been going on for a long time, and it follows the same fucking playbook they use overseas. Including bribing politicians, controlling mass media, censoring political opponents, lawfare, etc. etc.

This is a MUCH bigger story than "durrr, government wasted money on trans mice! They're so stupid!"

The CIA and Deep State have been running a likely multi-decade long psy op against the US public, including massive shaping public opinion.

This is, to paraphrase Biden, a big Fucking Deal.

And then where he has acted comes across as a typical establishment insider. Hes been on the wrong side of immigration. In the past he played ord games in support of allowing illegal border crossers to stay and become "legal". That's called amnesty. I want Canada to be petulant and never back down from tariffs.

It's not like their economy is an export economy that relies almost exclusively on the United States to function, or anything. It's not like the US will be able to find alternate sources for tree-based products should the costs get too high.

The Solari Report
@solari_the
Hero of the Week: March 10, 2025: Matt Taibbi
@mtaibbi

From fiscal years 1998 to 2015, $21 trillion went missing from the U.S. Departments of Defense and Housing and Urban Development (DOD and HUD). After Catherine and Professor Mark Skidmore published several landmark reports documenting this astounding fact, the government forestalled any further research into the missing money by promulgating, in October 2018, Federal Accounting Standards Advisory Board Statement 56 (“SFFAS 56” or, as we refer to it, “FASAB 56”. FASAB 56 is an administrative policy that essentially lets the government keep secret books in contravention of the federal financial management laws enshrined in the Constitution.

People often ask us, “Why does no one else ever talk about the missing money?” In early 2019, intrepid journalist Matt Taibbi (
@mtaibbi
) did. After the implementation of FASAB 56, Taibbi not only gained mastery over the complex topics of “classified money-moving” and failed Pentagon audits but wrote two excellent articles about these developments at Rolling Stone.

I never thought of that before but I suppose there's no reason their taxpayer-funded paychecks wouldn't also be federally taxed.

State employees still have to pay tax on their state-taxpayer funded paychecks.

There's a pretty neat private botanical garden that's worth a visit, if it's still in operation.

And a tourist cave that's alright.

Driving the Road to Hana is overrated, though you can get t-shirts that said you survived it. A Chevy (?) HHR is not the vehicle to drive it in though, because the A-pillar will obscure your sight of the road in the hairpin turns.

They also have tours where they drive you up to the observatory on top of the mountain and you can bike back down. (... I might be conflating two separate events) Don't even try to move fast when you're on top of the mountain. That air is thin.

332 Some of the spending may be owed for work already done, or have valid, strategic value or humanitarian significance. Mind you I doubt a penny of it can be justified under the constitution, but if USAID is paying for, say, doctors to treat malaria in Lesotho, that's at least reasonably moral.

333 The parents just cut off their free ride and they are throwing a massive tantrum including name calling, posting inane Tik Tok videos, cursing, flashing paddles with stupid slogans, waving canes, and stomping their feet. The adults are in charge again.

Its even worse than that for the left. Their entire life blood is this government funding being shuffled around under the table. Millions for condoms to Gaza was never about birth control, it was about pipelining money allocated for that into pockets and activist organizations.

The missing Covid money, the bizarre social security numbers, the loans made to children, the tax refunds going to people more than once, all of it was ways to take your tax money and enrich people and pay for activism at every level of society and the world.

And without that, the left has no future.... 1/2

Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at March 10, 2025 07:10 PM (2VST1)

334 Remember all those people we saw in college getting Underwater Feminist Basketweaving for Trans degrees? How we said "they have no future in the real world" Well they DID have a future, as long as organizations like USAID kept funding them.

All those companies we watched go woke, lose customers and stocks, and stay open? Federal grants and funds propping them up. George Soros even he can't afford to keep all this going? He didn't HAVE to. He'd give them money, then USAID and other organizations gave it right back to him.

What happens when you cut off this flood of cash? Where do they go? How do they live? What happens to the blue-haired eternal protester being paid 40 bucks an hour to show up and break Tesla lot windows when the Act Blue money dries up?

They face that real world we warned them about, that's what. And they will literally kill to prevent that.

Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at March 10, 2025 07:13 PM (2VST1)

335 Did anybody ever get to the bottom as to how much money was cut?

This "83%" that people are getting excited about in here is a meaningless number - it's 83% of the contracts. That could be 99% of the money, or it could be 1% of the money. We have no idea what we're even talking about.

That fact that we're being fed a meaningless number ought to tell us that it's misleading. Probably a LOT less than 83% of the money was cut. Maybe less than half.
