A couple of weeks ago I mentioned that Precious the ancient Bichon's back legs gave out. No warning, just one morning they didn't work. A quick trip to the vet and some meds for a week made a big difference. She is 90 percent back to normal and can prance and wag her tail again. Considering it could have been something more serious or fatal, we are thrilled. She's approaching 17 years old so every day is a blessing.

With the approach of spring weather and all the variations of temps and rain, the ground is, apparently, releasing different aromas all the time. Considering that with her 4 inch legs her nose is never far from the ground, each walk with Precious becomes an voyage of discovery for her.

If you remember the last pregnant kitty we took in, Brie, was the 'feral' outside calico. She gave us 6 kittens, 5 boys, on March 13 2024 so the Cheese babies are babies no more. Now adult cats. Very active, zoomers, and friendly to us and to all the other cats. Each one was named after a cheese: Serena (Little Girl), Cheddar (ginger face), Colby (pale face), Jack (as in Pepper Jack, dark nose), Monterey (Monty) (little nose stripe) and Reggie (Reggiano/Romano, wider nose stripe).
All have been fixed except 2 boys. Vet bill is kinda large at the moment. Wish we had one of those discount or State/county vets who would do it for cheap. In Africa the pound charged about $10. Posted by: Ciampino - love all the pets at March 15, 2025 03:50 PM (KjLnc) 16
The top pic: My sister had a cat that would wag her tail almost all the time. Angry, happy, playing, walking, any reason at all, that tail was moving. Persian kittuh too so she had a long, fluffy, tail. Queen Sophie was a nice kittuh. Live to be 18.

I learned something about dogs this week. Nothing too surprising, just something I hadn't thought about. Dogs have an ACL and they can tear it just like a human can. After which, they have to be carried up and down stairs to go outside and poop.

To Stephanie the Anatolian Shepherd person:
I lost my pit/beagle/lab mix in this past fall. For years, his best friend was an Anatolian Shepherd who outweighed him 2:1: 130 pounds to 65 pounds. Given the strength and energy level of my dog, when the two wrestled, it was a fair fight! They loved to wrestle each other to the point of mutual exhaustion. The Anatolian Shepherd pre-deceased my pit/beagle/lab mix by a few years, but I like to think they're somewhere, together again, wrestling the day and night away. Afternoon, Pet Folken!
Stirling the great black cat is half on and half off my lap at the moment. No idea where little aloof Dagny is. I bought some Pet Armor flea treatment this morning and dosed them both. They've been scraching some, even during the so-called "winter" here, and I can feel all the little flea-bite crusts on their shoulders, heads, and necks under their fur. I hope the stuff works. The little red kitten in the video on the bed with the dog? A dead ringer for the late Arizona, who was a six-week kitten when I adopted him from the SPCA in June more years ago than I want to reckon. He grew to be a massive 14-lb. longhaired beauty. Maybe this kitten will too. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at March 15, 2025 04:27 PM (omVj0) 36

Great bunch of Moron pets. I have a special affection for Aussie Shepards, ever since my late brother had one, decades ago. Speaking of shepherds, a couple of days ago, Daughter was visiting, and when it came time to leave, loaded her two dogs (Chowie and Maya) into the car. I went out on the porch to see them off, and Daisy the energetic Malinois, slipped out the door. Daisy stood there next to me for a moment, staring off South, and then in a blink of an eye, she was out in the pasture, herding cattle. Apparently, we aren't past that behavior. A couple of things about her herding: • The cowboys had just picked up all the calves the day before, so the mamas were wandering around, spread out more loosely than Daisy liked. • Daisy won't obey my calls at all, had to drive out to the pasture and get her to get into the car, once her work was done. • Never trained, but does a great instinctive job of getting all the cows into a huddle, so far without getting her face kicked in. Hard to get too mad at her when watching her work is so beautiful. Amazing, really. Posted by: mindful webworker - woofy woofy at March 15, 2025 04:38 PM (h7Ym/) 45

It has yet to rain here, despite the dire predictions. The wind keeps gusting, blowing leaves and humid thick air around, but no rain.
Miss Linda has borrowed the first season of the 2020 All Creatures Great and Small from the library, and we have been stepping through the episodes. The story of Yorkshire country vets in 1938 is charming and non-woke, at least so far. The animal stars range from a thoroughbred horse in one episode, to a valuable farm bull, and various dogs, including a Pekingese named "Tricki." His wealthy owner, played by Diana Rigg (!), indulges and spoils the hell out of him. There have been a couple of cats, but none who take the stage quite like Tricki. Oreo (not my name, but it suited her) could have been Tuna's longhaired sister; I adopted her at a cat show in late '02. Both were very much alike: nobody's geniuses, a tendency to be plump unless I carefully watched their intake. Neither boasted the greatest health. But they were quiet and affectionate. We pick up our new Beagle puppy next weekend. We thought our boy Lincoln needed a friend. He was attacked by dogs in the dog park last fall and really hasn't gotten over it. He hides behind us on walks whenever he sees another dog and practically jumps out of his skin if a dog barks and he can't see it. We thought someone to play with will help him get over his fear. Fen: had a blue parakeet as a child.
Years later put two and two together and realized maw killed it with her "non stick" pan which give off toxic gas. Her maniac face loving the sadness she could deliver me still creeps me out. Years ago a girlfriend brought home finches. I was love struck. Then she gave me a surprise a barely weaned lorikeet. "That *thing* is going back to the pet shop tomorrow!" Fell in love overnight. Took him to the wrong vet. Missed out on the class action against her. Met Mr Senegal December 97 and he must have thought I was his first owner he loved. But he married and had a child who got the attention now. Bit the wife and got exiled Took him out of his cage and the gal that had him screamed "THAT BIRD IS VICIOUS!!". Ymean the bird I'm kissing the belly? I'm his fourth home but I'll been over 27 years.
