Crotchety Hard-Left Fanatical Fossil Ruth Marcus Resigns from Her Sinecure at the Washington Post, Angry that Bezos Will No Longer Let Her Publish Demands to Censor Her Enemies

Seems like Bezos has created his own self-deportation scheme.

By telling opinion columnists they can no longer fulminate endlessly for censorship and suppression, he's encouraging the Dead Enders to MoveOn.org.

A top political columnist for The Washington Post resigned today, accusing Post chief executive and publisher Will Lewis of killing her column that criticized owner Jeff Bezos's drive to overhaul the opinion pages to focus on his libertarian priorities.

Post columnist and Associate Editor Ruth Marcus, who has worked at the paper for four decades, says she can no longer stay there.

"Jeff's announcement that the opinion section will henceforth not publish views that deviate from the pillars of individual liberties and free markets threatens to break the trust of readers that columnists are writing what they believe, not what the owner has deemed acceptable," Marcus wrote in a resignation letter obtained by NPR.

More than 75,000 digital subscribers canceled in the 48 hours after Bezos revealed his intentions late last month, which included an edict that the paper would not print opposing views; then Opinions Editor David Shipley stepped down after vainly trying to dissuade Bezos from his course.

Marcus confirmed to NPR she had resigned and the authenticity of the letter but declined further comment.

"Will's decision to not ...run the column that I wrote respectfully dissenting from Jeff's edict - something that I have not experienced in almost two decades of column-writing - underscores that the traditional freedom of columnists to select the topics they wish to address and say what they think has been dangerously eroded," she wrote.

...

All this led to critical columns about the endorsement decision in the Post's own pages and multiple resignations by editorial board members and by contributors to the wider opinions section. Shipley, while still editor, killed a cartoon late last year by Pulitzer Prize-winner Ann Telnaes showing Bezos among the media and tech figures abasing themselves before Trump; she resigned. A deluge of veterans have taken jobs at competing news outlets.

Ruth Marcus is gone.

I want to see over-the-top Democrat shill Catherine Rampell resign next.

But she won't. She needs the paycheck and she's otherwise unemployable.

To be fair, we haven’t seen the content. But if past is prologue, it’s simply another screed about why the paper should retain its one-sided liberal bias. I’m a little puzzled how killing one more, “the boss sucks and doesn’t agree with me” is some type of First Amendment issue. It’s more like a basic editorial issue, something the WAPO is only familiar with if it goes against their deep liberal bias.

You can touch for the right price, assuming you are close enough geographically or are willing to travel. Same with many strippers you see in go-go bars. They are part-time whores or half-whores. The "market" for who-ahs, OF and cam-girls, and strippers has conflated to the point where many if not most do it all.

Too many people conflate ethnic or bloodline Judaism with the actual practice of the religion. As evidenced by 70 years of their voting patterns, there are a LOT of Jews-by-blood in the US that aren't practicing.

Which isn't an issue unto itself; practice whatever ya want, no skin off my nose. However, a lot of these people are basically Schrodinger's Put-upon Minorities. Open the box and you'll either see a self-righteous secular leftist OR a meek, shrinking minority that has been persecuted for thousands of years...and it's whatever is convenient at that particular time.

It's less the fact that they're Jews than it is that they're leftists who don't give a shit about anything other than pure will-to-power.

243 >>I understand the Tarrifs what I don't understand is Trump's wanting to make Canada a State.. That's not gonna happen

Of course not and Trump doesn't want Canada to be a state.

This is how Trump negotiates. He goes for the jugular and puts his opponent on the defensive and makes them the inferior before the negotiation starts.

Canada has a GDP smaller than Texas. They don't get to dictate terms to the biggest economy in the world. Trump is just setting the terms of the negotiation.

It has been my experience that publications have a POV that impacts how news events are covered and most certainly reflect the columnists that scribble on their opinion pages. It has also been my experience that these publications POVs are not immutable and are affected by ownership changes or a cultural change within the organization.

An example, the Seattle Times for decades was the right leaning newspaper. Today it is raging leftist publication. This change occurred precisely during the same timeframe that Seattle went from a loopy liberal city to one that is populated by intolerant Marxists.

The WaPo is also an example that intolerant Marxist publications can move toward something more akin to the loopy left. Again, nothing is immutable. The left seems to have it in their heads that their jobs, government or private sector, are more like long term hospice care. This entitled perspective is wildly exaggerated when it involves their exalted sense of mission to make the world exactly as they want it to be even when that includes, which is all the time, that it be jammed down your throat.

In simplistic, 1st order thinking - yes a factory is just a big metal building.

But it needs abundant, stable energy to build and operate. It needs sufficient local human resources in order to operate it. It needs to be located in an accessible location not far from ports and interstates so that supplies and materials can be transported to it efficiently.

It's not as easy as just plopping a metal building down in the middle of nowhere and saying "Open for business".

Tough for Canada and Canadians. They brought this ALL on themselves- unsecured borders, out of control drug and immigrant smuggling, insufficient defense spending, and utter dependence on the US indifference to support their public benefits services. The US is getting its house in order, and it's time Canada did a little self-examination before it implodes.

What's wrong with simplistic, 1st order thinking? It's not some universal evil. Is there a buck to be made spinning up a factory when there wasn't before? Well, then, get spinning. Obviously it's not literally overnight, but none of those things are insurmountable problems. And to Wolfie's point, there's already scads of buildings that already were factories across the nation sitting there doing nothing. Blow the dust off, bring in whatever tooling you need to at least get started, and stop looking at every conceivable obstacle as a death sentence.

We're Americans. We used to know how to do that. More to the point, we used to be legally allowed to do that.

CBP reported encountering 19,498 migrants between border posts on the northern border between October 2023 and July 2024 -- 15,612 of them in the Swanton Sector, which runs along the Quebec's border with New York and Vermont.

Did it ever occur to you that they're empty - for a reason? THat perhaps the mere existence of the building wasn't a "build it and they will come" type of situation?

Detroit is full of hulks of abandoned factories. It would cost more to bring those building up to modern standards than to just level them and start from scratch.

The tax and regulatory conditions under which those factories all shut down and moved overseas is what needs to change. Trump could be focusing on that - instead with get another stupid CR and I don't see headlines of regulations getting cut. Stupid nonsensical contracts? Yeah - those are dying - but I don't see anything along the lines of "Every oil lease that is currently waiting on federal approval - is hereby approved."

"Any local environmental impact regulation that is blocking progress of any infrastructure construction project is hereby overruled."

Thats the kind of revolution I want. Instead I'm just getting stupid fights with people who would otherwise be our friends and partners.

437 >>Canada only has a trade surplus with us due to crude oil.

Nonsense. You are ignoring the tariffs they put on our goods.

The US has historically had the lowest tariffs of any country in the developed world. We've allowed other countries, Canada included, to sell their goods in the US with low tariffs while they place tariffs 2, 3 times or higher on our goods. Canada has also allowed China to dump products such as steel into Canada at low cost and then rebranded it as Canadian steel and dumped it into the US. And that says nothing about the porous border they have supported that has allowed illegals and drugs to pour into the US.

Do you think Trump and his team are making all of this up? Trudeau is a charter member of the WEF globalist team. We either want to have a great country or we want to continue to let other countries take advantage of us while sleeping under our umbrella of protection for free.

Those are the choices.
