Reminds me of the dog walk yesterday: watched a small hawk hunt a squirrel on a big cottonwood tree. The hawk would jump to one side of the main trunk - and the squirrel would dash the other way, then the hawk would fly to an opposite outer branch, and the squirrel would duck again. Watched for a while, but didn't really want to see how it ended. . .

I've gotten to the age and outlook where my critique of art is based solely on whether or not it would make a good jigsaw puzzle.
This one would be frustrating. Posted by: Grapefruit LaCroix I have gotten to the age where my patients level has dropped to almost nothing, and my crap detector has pegged off the charts. Speaking of lions pouncing, a woman's body was found not too far from our mountain pllace, with marks on her body suggestive of an animal attack.
- Here in Colorado, we had a bear attack the other. A guy didn't close his sliding glass door all the way an a bear family considered it an invitation. It was in Lake City which is way up in the tall timber. https://shorturl.at/p9Lwb Posted by: Anonosaurus Wrecks, Soldier of the Persistence at March 12, 2025 10:25 AM (L/fGl) 212

I was just interested in the fact that the article asserts that it bypasses the 60 vote threshold. I guess it's classified as a budget bill.
Posted by: I used to have a different nic ======= In these cases, these statutes bypass the Senate rules on filibusters due to the Senate agreeing to pass them in the first place. Amended the Senate rules in these small instances formally rather than leaving it up to the Senate. Regarding budget bills in general, it is for the majority leader of the Senate to invoke reconciliation process to avoid filibusters. Right now, Thune has not apparently invoked it for the CR so it will need Dem votes to pass. That puts the Dems in charge as to whether there is a shutdown or at least 8 of their members have to walk the plank. If they shutdown the government, it gives Trump more power to decide which is essential and thus funded under existing statutes and which is not. House passing the CR was a big deal despite some sourness here and Massie (and his mentor) Rand Paul are in the wrong for voting against it. Rand has announced opposition to teh CR but as of yet has not voted on it. Posted by: whig at March 12, 2025 10:41 AM (ctrM5) 264

No; I was once. I still don't have any problem in asking saints to intercede for things. I'm not praying TO them. They're not God ( I'm asking them to pray and yes of course I can go to Jesus directly and do, but we have a song in our hymnal that refers to "friends on earth and friends in heaven. " Since St. Patrick was far holier than illl ever be I think I can ask him for a favor from God for Ireland. Posted by: FenelonSpoke at March 12, 2025 10:51 AM (Vrywh) 305

Writing romantic poetry as a young male can get you a long way ... ask me how I know.
Posted by: ShainS - Lots of people have been noticing that is something American culture has lost since somewhere around the 80s and 90s. There are no love or longing songs on the radio any longer. Only songs about hooking up. Is it a cause or symptom of this rotting culture? Related, I'd bet it's hard to find a woman under 40 that has received a love poem from a smitten young man. 20% or below, probably much less. On the other side of that, I bet 80% of men have written love poems. Maybe horrible ones, but the act still counts. Exactly. Posted by: FenelonSpoke Curiously, if you don't mind answering, it is my conclusion from reading the Bible and ancillary materials that Jesus serves as a unique intercessor between us and the Father because he is a high priest in the New Covenant. So when we pray in the name of Jesus to the Father, we are invoking a powerful intercessor to make sure our prayers are heard. If someone confessed With their their mouth and believes in in their heart that Jesus is Lord and that God raised him bodily from the dead and they want to follow him I think they’re a Christian.
