The Classical Saturday Morning Coffee Break & Prayer Revival

IMG_0159.JPG

Dear Father,

Thank you for sparing Donald J. Trump's life in Butler, PA. Thank you for a President who loves his country and is trying to do everything he can to improve our citizens lives. We often come to you with our troubles and not to you as often as we should when we should be thankful. We pray through Your Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen

Doof thought we needed a little learnin' or art or something about Coffee Art

*****

Good morning boys and girls and everything in between. Before we enter the Prayer Revival there are a few house keeping matters to go over. (Rulz for those of you in Valders)

1) This is an open thread. Feel free to lurk, opine and/or bloviate.
2) Be kind, be nice. And no jumping on or from furniture.
3) Running with sharp objects is frowned upon and could wind up on your permanent record.
4) Have a great weekend!

AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List

Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.

Prayer Requests:

1/4 – Smell the Glove asked for prayers for an 80 year old aunt. The aunt was diagnosed with colon cancer and started treatment this week.
2/22 Update – Prayers for all of the Horde and their loved ones in need. The aunt is still hanging in there. Thanks for the prayers.

1/11 – Our Country is Screwed asked for prayers. He is having a double mastectomy. (He notes: Yes, male breast cancer is a thing!) He is fortunate that it appears to be localized. Another request is for an aunt (age 70+) who is facing lung cancer and having part of her lung removed. She is scared and needs prayers too.
3/1 Update – He is going to Dana Farber Cancer Institute this week. Radiation is definite, and chemo is not sure, but probably both. The cancer was caught in time and prognosis is great. It’s a lot of stress for Mrs. OCiS. Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and prayers. Prayer works. Their daughter had cancer last year, and now this – there is no way they could have gotten through all of this without prayers.

1/15 – Sponge gave an update on his wife. She met with the radiation oncologist, and he used the word “cure”, so she is pretty happy about that. She has a couple more chemo treatments to go.
2/13 Update – His wife got a reprieve from the oncologist and does NOT need to get the last round of chemo. She will start the process of radiation prep next week, and may start the 19 rounds next week as well.

1/18 – Jrgunn77 requested prayers for health, which was fine a few months ago, but recently has been his with extremely high BP spikes, anxiety attacks, constant headaches, and hernia troubles. Jrgunn is on meds for the BP and anxiety, scheduled for a colonoscopy, and has referrals for a cardiologist and neurologist. These out of the blue anxieties are the worst. Jrgunn also asked for prayers for a friend from church, Rodney, who has recently suffered lung failure and is on oxygen, to come home from the hospital, and Pastor Ben and his brother, for comfort after the passing of their little sister from drug addiction.
2/11 Update – Jrgunn77 is still stuck at home, trying to recovery from pneumonia. Rodney, his friend from church, is in a bad way. His lungs have begun stiffening and his ability to breathe is severely compromised. His only hope is a lung transplant. He is sedated, and surrounded by his family. In times like these, it’s difficult to know how to pray, but please do.

1/18 - Teresa in Fort Worth said she could use some more Horde prayers. She had a CT scan on Monday. The largest tumor has not increased, but at least 4 others have quadrupled in volume, despite 2 rounds of chemo. Her third round of chemo stats on Wednesday. So far, she’s had exceptionally light nausea which has been controlled with medication, which is a blessing.
2/15 Update – Teresa posted good news and bad news. The good news is that her new medication is working – her tumor marker test levels have dropped a lot (from 596 to 34.. The bad news is that she is experiencing one of the side effects of this medication – blurred vision. They are going to stop with the meds for 2 weeks, and see if her vision improves, she can go back on a lower dosage of the medication. Her next CT scan is in April.
3/4 Update – Teresa’s eyes are back to normal, so she can restart the targeted therapy treatment (at the lower dosage). This is GREAT news, as the medication seems to be working his gangbusters.

1/25 – Sal asked for prayers for a couple he volunteers with. The husband, a retired pastor, has been diagnosed with congestive heart failure. They are both in their mid-80s and surgery is not an option for him.
2/15 Update – Please continue prayers for Pastor Bill, who is very discouraged with the complications from his tests and procedures, and for his wife, who is his main caregiver at home.

1/25 – Grammie Winger asks for prayers that everything goes well, as Rev finally has his colostomy reversed this week.
2/19 Update – Rev is back in the hospital. At his follow-up appointment on 2/18, the surgeon sent him to ER. They said he had AFib and his blood pressure was bad, 80/39. Grammie Winger would appreciate prayers.
2/22 Rev is back home from hospitalization 2.0. They send thanks for the prayers.

1/30 – KT had asked for prayers as she had a stroke earlier in the week. She is still at the hospital be feels very lucky, considering what happened.
2/8 Update – KT is home from the hospital now and feeling grateful. She posted that her GP said to light a candle to God, because He saved her life. There don’t seem to be many after-effects from the stroke. She will need to keep working on staying healthy.

1/31 – Bif Bewalski gave an update on Smash. The blood work confirmed that she does not have pancreatitis. They gave her fluids, 3 types of digestive system meds via IV, and then ignored her for 8 hours. Anyway, she is home and feeling better.
3/1 Update – Smash update: still having some distressing abdominal and digestive issues. Gastro specialist appointment is the 3rd week of March, and that’s just the new patient appointment. She can eat soft, easy to digest food in small portions, but still has swelling, gas, etc. Thank you all for the prayers.

2/7 – Weird Dave requested prayers for his sister, Susan, who had a major heart attack.
2/13 Update – Weird Dave posted his thanks for their prayers for his sister. She passed away, and her organs have already saved several other lives. You’ll never know how much all of y’all’s support means to his family.

2/8 – Sock Monkey posted that his family needs some serious prayers. He didn’t want to get into details, but his daughter and 5 grandchildren are now living with them. There is abuse and addiction involved.

2/8 – MammaB asked for prayers. She said she needs surgery, and has been preparing for it for several months, jumping through the hoops put up by the clinic and insurance. Last Wed. she was told everything was complete and she could have surgery in 8-10 weeks. On 2/7, the surgeon’s office threw up another roadblock, one that is very difficult to manage. She is feeling discouraged and asks for the Horde’s prayers.
3/1 Update – On 2/24, the surgeon agreed to her surgery. On 2/28, she received insurance authorization, and it is scheduled for 3/26. Thank you all for your prayers. She has had months of jumping through hoops.

2/8 – Pollywog the Ette asked for prayers for Inspector. He injured his rotator cuff last weekend, and even with muscle relaxants and narcotics he gets muscle spasms every time he tries to lay down. That means he’s had to sleep in a chair all week, so he isn’t sleeping well. It’s also making his feet and legs swell, which is bad. Besides the pain, he hasn’t been able to work for a full week because it’s his right arm that’s injured and he can’t type – even if he could sit in his office chair. Please pray for healing and continued forbearance by his employer. Mostly what he wants right now is to be able to sleep.

2/15 – FenelonSpoke requested prayers. She thinks that the church hierarchy is wanting her out, so they can close her church and take the money from the sale of the land (which technically belongs to the denomination anyway). They are a small congregation, but they love one another. Even if the denomination doesn’t close the church, a new pastor would not be helpful at this point.

2/15 – Cannibal Bob posted his thanks, to God and the Prayer Warriors here. He had posted under the name “Diddly Squat” about severe pain in his legs, and it was sent on to the prayer list. After several misdiagnoses, he was told he would probably lose his leg above the calf. After more research, Heidi found a genius surgeon in Albuquerque. Cannibal Bob has had surgery and will continue to have full use of his leg. He says he is convinced it is due to the Prayer Warriors here. Thank you all. God is great, and so are you.

2/15 – Ben Had asked for continued prayers for Jim Sunk New Dawn. He hasn’t been on the ONT for a while now.
2/22 Update – Doof heard from Jim SND and posted an update. Jim SND says he is doing OK and is in good spirits, all things considered. He’s just struggling to keep up with things here on the blog due to physical limitations. Doof plans to keep checking on him. Jim SND definitely appreciates our prayers and support.

2/15 – screaming in digital posted an update on her mother. Mom was deemed eligible for LTC benefits after 1 appeal. (Thanks again to Grateful for advice in bolstering the appeal!) She submitted the first claim a couple of weeks ago. She hasn’t received the funds yet, but the online system says it was approved. They are looking at assisted living options now. Screaming in digital realizes Mom can’t live with her indefinitely, despite her continued sweetness and (usual) cheerfulness.

2/18 – Teresa in Fort Worth asked for prayers for her husband’s niece, Amanda, who has just been put on the waiting list for another new heart. After 4 years with her first donor heart, her body is starting to reject it. She is only 40 years old, and has had heart issues her entire adult life. Please pray that Amanda’s body would stay well long enough for her to have another transplant. And also prayers for the family of this as-yet-unknown donor. Amanda knows full well what her receiving a new heart “means” to the donor family.
3/4 Update – Amanda still needs prayers. St. Luke’s cannot give her a second heart, so they have turned to Methodist in Houston, hoping that they will be able to handle her complex case.

2/22 – Tonypete requested prayers for his wife’s friend. The friend’s pos husband of 30 years died 3 years ago. He was a real monster. She’s relieved he’s gone but has all sorts of feelings of inadequacy and a wasted life. Ugh.

2/22 – neverenoughcaffiene asked that we keep 3 week old Isaac in our prayers. RSV has him intubated and in the ICU. His parents and 5 sisters could use a few prayers as well.
3/1 Update – Baby Isaac is out of ICU and doing great. He and his mom will stay with relatives when he’s released since the rest of the family has the flu. Thank you all for your prayers, we all know they work miracles.

2/22 – NaughtyPine requested prayers for the children that were rescued in Pontiac, Michigan, after their mother abandoned them for years. Not only do they need prayers, but also the mother (to repent) and family members who were put off by her lies and despise themselves for not doing more.

2/22 – J asked for prayers for help. He has been on probation for almost 8 years, and is very frustrated by it all. He has worked hard to improve himself and follows all the rules and restrictions, and he is tired by being demeaned and being treated as subhuman.

2/27 – Ciampino’s daughter asked for prayers for Ciampino. They are not sure what is wrong yet, but they had to call an ambulance to take him to the hospital. He was very weak and couldn’t walk or even stand up. The hospital has been giving him fluids, and he is more responsive now. Thank you for the prayers.
3/1 Update – Cysts in the kidneys, a large one to be removed with surgery so it no longer affects the GI tract.

2/27 – Katja requested prayers for Karla, who is in her 20s and in need of a miracle and/or a kidney donor, as hers are in stage 4 kidney failure. Her family is trying to find a donor because if she’s just added to the general list, it looks like a wait of 4-5 years, and it’s extremely questionable whether she can wait that long.

3/1 – antisocial justice beatnik would appreciate some prayers for Mom, who is continuing to suffer terribly from a botched medical procedure back in mid-Dec. Mom was rushed from her rehab facility to ER on 2/28, then back to the hospital that botched her care in Dec. Antisocial justice beatnik and Dad are doing their best to support her and each other, but Dad has his own existing medical issues to worry about, and AJB’s FMLA is running out.

3/1 – Madam Mayhem sent her thanks for the prayers for her niece’s husband, T, a young man in his 30s. We had prayed for him after his heart attack. He has recovered and there was only minimal damage. She also asked for prayers for Hubbymayhem, who is battling kidney stones and a UTI. The urology center did not catch it right away – they did scans for stones and bladder cancer instead of a simple urine culture. The antibiotics are underway, but he’s been suffering with it for a while.

3/1 – Jewells send an update – she had surgery on her arm. A week after that, she came down with influenza A and pneumonia. So she has been pretty sick and weak.

3/1 - thefritz requests prayers for his friend Jeff, his wife, and two children. Jeff’s pancreatic cancer has spread to his liver. They have stopped chemo and moved him to home hospice.

3/3 – Lizzy requested prayers for her father, whose health has taken a dive. They were taking him to the hospital, but it may well be that his body is exhausted, and the fight is over.

3/6 – Bulg asked for prayers. He is planning to send a conciliatory letter to his only sister, who has been estranged for 20 years. There had been a family breakup over the parents’ estate. The sister has begun communicating with Bulg’s brothers, so he is going to try and reestablish contact. Prayers that his attempt will be successful are appreciated.

For submission guidelines and other relevant info, please contact Annie's Stew, who is managing the prayer list. You can contact her at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. If you see a prayer request posted in a thread comment, feel free to copy and paste it and e-mail it to Annie's Stew. She tries to keep up with the requests in the threads, but she's not here all of the time, so she may not see it unless you e-mail it to her. Please note: Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks or so unless we receive an update.

2 Corinthians 4:8-9
We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair, persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed.

13 Toad-O asks for prayers for his son-in-law, his mother, and family. His mother is in the hospital with severe lung damage and her survival is uncertain. Also, her mother just died of a similar illness, and her sister’s husband was hospitalized. All these things happened in the same week, and the impact is devastating. Prayers and a miracle are needed.

That was a time of fear, uncertainty and gloom. I could not even watch the news. I had stayed away from weekday threads for more than a year.

Now the sun is shining and hope has returned. As we look at various intrigues and setbacks, we should never stop feeling gratitude for the blessings that have been showered upon us and continue to come.

46 IIRC Crimea being aligned with Russia is true. The majority of the population there identifies as "Russian." Crimea did FAFO with Ukraine. Ukraine began to shell Crimean towns in retribution. Up till then it had been a "war of words" between Crimea and Ukraine... with Russia quietly telling Z-man to chill out or we'll chill you out ourselves.

Putin's stated goal was to reclaim the "Russian aligned" part of Crimea which Ukraine claimed was "all" Ukrainian. It was during this back and forth between Russia and Ukraine with an invasion looking likely that the Crimean government fell, bailed, whatever. They basically fled to Russia since they'd been agitating Z-man to no end.

Then, there was the infamous *biden gaff about a "limited incursion" and we're off to the races.

Crimea has been part of Russia longer than Texas has been part of the United States. Crimea was added to the Ukrainian SSR in an attempt to make it less viable as an independent state, and it worked.

All the SSRs have jacked up borders without any real historical or geographical reason behind them. The purpose was to create lots of minorities to make self-rule more difficult. Again, that part worked.

63 Say what you will about Bill Mahar and I'd probably agree with you, but, man, he's been blistering the left for their woke crap ever since Trump won.

Last night, he went off on Julianne Hough's virtue-signaling opening statement regarding Native Americans being original stewards of the land.

"I've said it before, I'll say it again—either give the land back or shut the f*** up!"

He then put Hollywood elites in general on blast:

"I understand the desire to right the wrongs of the past, especially when you get to take the moral high ground and then build an 8,000-square-foot mansion on it."

Mahar still dislikes Trump, of course, and thinks MAGA people are crazy, just less so than the woke wing of the Democrat Party.

HEADLINE:Colorado agrees to 2 wolf compensation claims that will nearly bust its budget

Two compensation claims by ranchers totaling $340,000 have been approved by Parks & Wildlife for 2024. The total budget allotment for rancher compensations was $350,000 with several claims still outstanding that will add another several hunndred thousand dollars to the final total.

Ranchers are being compensated not only for direct kills of livestock by wolves, but also for decreased average birthweights and decreased pregnancy rates in their herds (presumably due to stress??).

There's a lot, billions of dollars that are on the table every couple of months. *biden and his ilk created a fairly well managed money laundering operation that's lining the pockets of Congress people. I may or may not have wargamed some of these scenarios and barring full-scale mobilization, Russia could not overrun the Baltics and Eastern Europe simultaneously. Even now, they are somewhat stretched and they don't even have to cover the full western border.

Putin wants a buffer zone, just like we have with Canada and Mexico. These weirdos who insist that nations are like people who can do whatever they want. No, they can't. That has never been the case in human history. Open up a frigging book! The notion that Ukraine could join NATO and NOT be attacked was always absurd.

135 114 "Putin was a fool for thinking he'd win in a walkover."

I wouldn't put it this way. Remember it was supposed to be a decapitation strike at Kiev. But the Russians fucked up at the airport and lost the element of surprise. And then Putin found out that he had been lied to by his Military about readiness when they tried to roll in to support the botched strike.
Posted by: Little Stevie Wonder

Exactly. Although, given Russia/USSR's history, I'd expect a leader would be skeptical of presented capabilities and effectiveness, and either temper expectations or commit seemingly excess forces accordingly.

I also assume, when the initial strike failed and the war started to drag on into a more conventional conflict, Russia didn't expect the immense amount of Western aid. They probably didn't expect NATO direct military intervention (correctly), and assumed they could weather the anticipated sanctions, diplomatic BS, and small amounts of military and financial aid to Ukraine. Hundreds of billions of dollars, and training of entire Ukrainian brigades in NATO countries like France, is pretty extraordinary and probably wasn't expected.

Nor was small drone warfare.

Mom is stable but continues to suffer with an horrific bed wound and blot clots in her legs--both of which are preventing her from standing and walking and are causing her extreme pain (which is still not under control). They'll need to go spelunking in her heart again at some point, but we're not sure when that'll happen. My understanding is that her blood clots cannot be treated until the follow-up procedure occurs which ultimately means she'll continue to be bedridden for the foreseeable future.

Dad's still having his own medical issues but is mobile. He and I are taking shifts to visit mom (he's morning, I'm afternoon/evening).

I finally managed to find a copy of my resume. It is from several years ago but I know it's the most up-to-date version available. So, I'll be re-constructing the last several years via documents, e-mails, etc. and start applying.

186 I also assume, when the initial strike failed and the war started to drag on into a more conventional conflict, Russia didn't expect the immense amount of Western aid.

The initial strike didn't fail. It brought Zelensky to the negotiating table and got the concessions Russia wanted. Specifically, stop killing the ethnic Russians in the southeast and no NATO. Then Zelensky reneged on the agreement and we find ourselves where we are today.

187 So, what was the Istanbul Memorandum drafted and agreed to in 2022, 4 days (or so) after Russian troops crossed into Ukraine ? Mind you , that was just

"The draft documents - discussed at talks in Istanbul at the end of March 2022 - would have obliged Ukraine to give up its NATO ambitions and accept permanent neutral and nuclear-free status, in return for security guarantees from the United States, Russia, China, Britain and France - the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council."

Mind you , that was a memorandum of understanding. The rest could have been negotiated. It is sort of back now.

After someone dies, there are things you can throw out, things you can donate, and things you can sell.

195 On a tech note: I found my resume in a server backup I created with an old e-mail provider before switching to another. It's in Maildir format which proved problematic opening under Windows.

I tried using a popular importer/exporter plugin for Thunderbird, but that only supports MBOX, not Maildir. There are a couple of free recovery tools out there which should do the job, but they just choked on it. Eventually, I set up a Linux Mint VM with VMWare Workstation, installed Evolution, and imported the backup that way. Had that failed, I would've then proceed to install and configure Dovecot on the VM and connect to that with Thunderbird. What a PITA.

To which statement do you refer? The part about Putin being a thug?

What makes him a thug?

- The fact that media outlets funded by the US government blame him for every suspicious death in Russia?
- Maybe the death, by blood clots, of a guy who got the jab in Germany before being imprisoned in Russia for attempting to coordinate with the UK to overthrow the Russian government. The guy who was "Putin's biggest political opponent" despite the high point of his political career being placing fourth in the race for Mayor of Moscow a decade earlier.
- Or could it be that he doesn't permit Russian orphans to be adopted by western gays?

No, I'm being very honest. Painfully honest. Most of our interventions have been abject failures. We don't win wars because we don't know what winning even looks like. We manage conflicts now, try to keep them going at a comfortable level where the corpse count isn't high enough to keep those deplorable hillbillies from signing up.

With all our tech, our vast resources, the greatest economy in world history, we pissed around in places we had no buisiness being, like Somalia, Afghanistan, Iraq, the Balkans, and that was after the harsh lessons of Korea and Vietnam.

Russia has a much clearer strategy of dominating the "near abroad." Trump is returning us to something similar.

290 Having been in Real Estate for many years and gone through hundreds of home inspections...There is no perfect home. If you become a homeowner, there will be issues and things to be taken care of. SF residence, ongoing maintenance including outside stuff. Condo, some stuff covered by condo fee that you would normally pay for but condo fee. Rent and cost still goes up and when something goes wrong you have to wait to get fixed.
Bottom line: Where is most important. Pick where you want to live and which model suits your stage in life and just accept it will never be perfect except for the Where.

If I had jumped up and down as soon as I walked thru the front door, I would have been in the crawl space! The rot under the dining area window was clear into the studs! And don't get me started on the windows that ALL leaked and had to be replaced!
We managed to fix everything and eventually broke even when we sold it. Fucking house inspector.

Also, your personal story is all that matters. Life is about who you are, not what you do, so if your work sucks, that's not your fault, you're just living your best life.

I watched a dude framing out an opening for a new front window, a large window. This was an old house, early 1900s, so the floors were not good. From left to right in the span of that room I would say the floors were out probably 2 inches minimum. Did this dumb bastard contractor use a level to frame the bottom plate of the window opening? Noooo, he measured up from the floor to make his marks.

Hah. I assume they had no plans to level the floor. Who doesn't want to live in a Fun House.

328 Speaking of nail guns and building, I saw a new never-before-seen vanity-business for the wife of a successful businessman husband recently.

Mostly there's bookstores and little spice shops or flavored olive oil type businesses, but the other day I saw an upcoming pick-your-own flowers stand. It had signs and everything. "COMING SOON!!!"

I bet they're putting $11K into the little hut, and the driveway was probably $3K

331 I watched a dude framing out an opening for a new front window, a large window. This was an old house, early 1900s, so the floors were not good. From left to right in the span of that room I would say the floors were out probably 2 inches minimum. Did this dumb bastard contractor use a level to frame the bottom plate of the window opening? Noooo, he measured up from the floor to make his marks.

A few years ago we decided to upgrade our fridge, which was getting long in the tooth. I measured the space, found one that matched the dimensions but when it arrived it would not fit because I did not take into account that the floor beneath the old one had settled, and things were no longer plumb. The thing was just too big.

After much measuring and debate, I ended up having to disassemble the cabinet next to it, and rebuild it smaller. A Guard buddy came by with a saw and we trimmed the countertop and now everything is locked in. The next fridge will be measured in exacting detail.

334 My old house was over 130years old. It wasn't built on a foundation so no crawl space. Decades of freeze and thaw caused the giant cut stones it sat on to shift and sink. Most of that house was sitting on the ground. All of it was leaning. Front section leaned south. Middle section leaned north. And the back section was leaning west! The roof was bad. The floor was separating from the walls. It was so bad, fixing it would have cost more getting a new house put in behind it. So we got a new house. It's much better. Better insulation, better windows, level floors, good roof and no stairs. I wasn't sure about this house because it's A LOT smaller, but we downsized our stuff all to hell and over. Now we fit neatly in the new house and the old farmhouse is gone.

I had done, or attempted to do kitchens in house with floors that were so bad that the back of the base cabinets would be touching the floor, and the front needed to sit on a piece of 2X4. Most of our work were in old houses, so we always ran into that. When it got that bad we would level the floors. I can't tell you how many times after a room was gutted we would sister in new level 2X4s against the originals to make level walls for the sheetrock. It basically is the reason why my father went from kitchens and baths to full on home remodeling. It was all about control. You couldn't trust anybody to make the room accurate enough for a good kitchen install, so we started doing everything.

Having put floors and cabinets in two homes that someone else built and two homes my father built as close to perfect as possible, you said a mouthful.

It was a near-joy to put cabinets and floors in my parents house after the others.

339 Did some repair/remodeling on a house built in the 30s...framed of un-cured oak lumber...nothing was square, driving nails was nigh impossible, sawing threw sparks...really.
