Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | FBI Scientist Explains Why American Intelligence Now Favors the Lab Leak Theory (and In Fact Always Did)The CIA also concluded with "low confidence" that the virus was cooked up in Fauci's Wuhan branch, but that finding was suppressed by Biden, and only revealed when John Ratcliffe became CIA Director. But at every turn, Vanity Fair attempts to undermine the scoop this FBI scientist has delivered to them. Here's how Vanity Fair spins this revelation to its readers: Somehow, this is all Trump's fault, doncha know:As bird flu spreads, and Team Trump begins dismantling America's public health apparatus, a former FBI scientist and investigator speaks out about the evidence that led the bureau to suspect that COVID-19 was sparked by an incident at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.America's public health apparatus has lied to us for five years and hasn't done jack squat to contain any viral outbreak. In fact, it created the biggest one of all time. It's time to shut it all down. Despite their efforts to undermine him, the scientist's disclosures badly damage the Fake Consensus of a wet-market "spillover." Vanity Fair can now report that FBI scientists closely scrutinized the research activities of a group of graduate students and researchers who worked under Shi Zhengli, the lead coronavirus scientist at the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV). For at least three years prior to the pandemic, those scientists performed risky research on a group of viruses that included one of the closest known relatives to SARS-CoV-2, which causes COVID-19. The FBI found that Shi's researchers, in their publications, were not candid about the inventory of viruses in their possession and the true breadth of their work, which was conducted in labs with a low biosafety level. The intelligence community also determined that, in the autumn of 2019, three of Shi's researchers fell ill with COVID-like symptoms.More spin from VF: They want you to continue trusting Saint Anthony Fauci. Don't believe these FBI Science-Liars!

It looks like the only think that can save our collective bank accounts is the fact that because the entire world - with the exceptions of Sweden, Africa, India and Japan, I believe - did exactly the WRONG thing and made their populations suffer needlessly due to gov't policies, and as such want to put this whole sorry episode behind them ASAP. The Krauts too... since 2020 [like everyone here 5 years ago].
Disclose.tv @disclosetv 5h JUST IN - Since 2020, the German intelligence service BND has assumed that the corona outbreak originated in a laboratory in Wuhan, China. The German Chancellery kept this secret. Timothy Peterson@nsquaredvalue 47m Replying to @disclosetv
These people need to be held accountable: Paul Barry, host of ABC's Media Watch: In 2020, Barry referred to the lab leak theory as a "conspiracy theory" and criticized journalists who reported on it, asserting there was "no evidence" supporting the theory. Laura Helmuth, editor-in-chief of Scientific American: Under Helmuth's leadership starting in 2020, the magazine published several articles "debunking" the Wuhan lab-leak theory, which is now the US government's favored explanation for the origin of the coronavirus. Sunny Hostin, co-host of The View: In a January 2025 episode, Hostin debated the origins of COVID-19, expressing skepticism about the lab leak theory and emphasizing that the CIA had only low confidence in this report, validating the New York Times' decision not to cover it extensively. Posted by: andycanuck (/tzYP) at March 12, 2025 04:36 PM (/tzYP) 39
@paulina_milla and Allyson Chiu The Washington Post: On February 17, 2020, reporters Paulina Firozi and Allyson Chiu authored an article titled "Tom Cotton keeps repeating a coronavirus conspiracy theory that was already debunked." The piece labeled Senator Tom Cotton's suggestion of a possible lab origin as a "debunked" conspiracy theory.
Apoorva Mandavilli The New York Times: On April 30, 2020, science and health reporter Apoorva Mandavilli wrote an article titled "Senator Tom Cotton Repeats Fringe Theory of Coronavirus Origins." The article reported that scientists had dismissed claims that the Chinese government created the virus, attributing its origin to natural sources. @dpfunke PolitiFact: On September 16, 2020, fact-checker Daniel Funke rated the lab leak theory as a "conspiracy theory that has been debunked," assigning it a "Pants on Fire" rating. However, in May 2021, PolitiFact retracted this classification, acknowledging that the theory was "unsupported by evidence and in dispute." Love the wit, as ever, ace. Always ice little precision-guided munitions, here and there.
Without being a geneticist or virologist, much of the basic "circumstantial evidence" on this has been known almost since the start. To me the quasi-smoking gun is the Furin cleavage site (FCS), which apparently exactly matches what one proposed research program ("DEFUSE") rejected by DARPA planned to produce exactly the bug we see in SARS-COV-19 (in terms of the FCS). Of which the chances of such occurring in nature were estimated to be ... 1 in a zillion, or basically extremely improbable. The low bio-safety level/documented serious incidents at the WIV are circumstantial flavoring, as are a few other things, all pointing towards lab origin (and lab incompetence, and prevarication). And I think the WIV took down its online research section/inventory in October 2019, something like that. Think it had been up/online forever, as is standard with such outfits. In context, extremely suspicious. Posted by: rhomboid at March 12, 2025 04:38 PM (1m82a) 45

I understand we had Wilson, FDR, the Depression, the bonds formed by wartime, all that. Still, it's hard to believe a population could 180 like that so quickly. But the Belgians accidentally spread HIV far and wide by re-using needles in one of their inoculation campaigns in the 1920's or so, which led to the spread of HIV, and eventually it ended up going global. And with the way it spreads (bodily fluid contact), it ended up affecting mostly gay men and IV drug users. That's the most generous reading I'm willing to give. I think it is definitely possible that a government (likely ours, but who knows?) created it for nefarious purposes and everything else is bullshit. You never know. Posted by: Sebastian Melmoth at March 12, 2025 04:56 PM (VofaG) I don't think that's what happened at all. I think we have had what, in any other context, we'd call organized crime families more or less controlling the US foreign policy since the inter-war period, and that took off like crazy during WWII (including the OSS hiring the mafia, who the FBI still claimed DID NOT EXIST, to protect our docks during the war and help with the war against Italy). And they did all of this more or less in the open. The Council on Foreign Relations membership roster of that era (well, and still), is full of familiar names that we all now associate with the Deep State, including who I'd consider the biggest players in the Deep State at that time -- Allen Dulles, and his brother John Foster Dulles. But my question was -- how did the US citizens of that era let that happen? It was clear that overthrowing governments all over the world was not protecting or helping anyone, it was done on behalf of major US companies. Our central american policy was dictated by united fruit for example. A banana company. Posted by: Harry Paratestes at March 12, 2025 05:04 PM (uCjyK) 142

The most generous theory I'm willing to believe is that HIV was endemic in the Congo for a long time, but because untreated AIDS is so fatal, it never really spread. But the Belgians accidentally spread HIV far and wide by re-using needles in one of their inoculation campaigns in the 1920's or so, which led to the spread of HIV, and eventually it ended up going global.

Posted by: Black JEM Twas a trading bloc but never 'free trade'. Part of the unstated part of the Marshall plan was to allow Euroland and Japan to 'catch up' by permitting them to block US imports via asymmetrical tariffs and other trading barriers to build their economies up. This permitted them to run trade surpluses at the expense of the US manufacturing and agricultural interests but to teh benefit of the financial wizards at Wall Street and the soft power of being the world reserve currency for trade. Essentially, we let them run up trade surpluses with us so they could pay for imports to compete with us in manufacturing. Became unsustainable when the Asian countries climbed aboard the screw Uncle Sam via trade and US corporations ended up outsourcing, off shoring, and other things to the detriment of US employment in making things. A service economy was the idea with no icky making things. Problem is, that only lasts until the value of your money runs out--then the crash. UK found that out via war debts in WWI and WWII. Certainly - if the US government is completely toppled (and it may well happen at some point soon), then sure, all these people are going to die. Forget jail. Dead.
But as long as it remains an operating institution, nobody gets touched. It exists only to protect the interests of the ruling class - and literally nothing else. Using it against itself in that manner is silly - no fed is ever going to arrest a made man, and if one were to, Hawaiian Justice will ride to his rescue. If people want to see stuff like that happen, they better go a hell of a lot further than electing somebody.. Twas a trading bloc but never 'free trade'. Part of the unstated part of the Marshall plan was to allow Euroland and Japan to 'catch up' by permitting them to block US imports via asymmetrical tariffs and other trading barriers to build their economies up.
Posted by: whig at March 12, 2025 05:18 PM (ctrM5) The Marshall Plan is a perfect example of how the Deep State operated back then (and still does to some extent.) Lots of well connected Americans got rich, the CIA used the money as a slush fund, and the American worker was subsidizing his competition in Europe. We had the greatest advantage in the history of the world -- we were the only industrialized nation that wasn't either destroyed by bombs or occupied by the Soviets. And instead of rolling with that and enjoying our good fortune (and well-earned war dividend), we decided it was more important to throw ungodly sums of money in to a corrupt pit of hell that was post-war Europe. Even "low confidence" is an intentionally confusing, modified limited hangout, intended to be misconstrued.
When an agency says we believe "x" to be true, they then assign a "confidence" rating to it. "Low confidence" of a belief in "x" doesn't mean the agency don't think its true, it means that "x" is their best opinion, but objective proof is not the strongest. But ripe to be deliberately misconstrued in headlines like "Agency Has Low Confidence In Lab Leak Theory" --to imply that the agency dis-believes it. Interestingly, but also, I'm sure unrelated, after both countries were all fucked up by the CIA, opium production shifted to... Afghanistan. The Taliban did not like that, and after the US invasion, American troops were protecting opium fields in A'stan, and at one point during the occupation, over 90% of all opium grown on planet earth was being grown in Afghanistan. Also interesting is that that coincided perfectly with the rise of Opiates being prescribed in the US and the beginning of the opiate crisis. I'm not saying it's all related, but... I don't know. ----- Both very fit; wiped out for a week; badly off for another week; their GP couldn't believe it came on so quick and so hard to have been flu. I can't recall their treatment if just OTC stuff or Rx from the GP though they saw him later so probably no major Rx. Posted by: andycanuck (/tzYP) at March 12, 2025 05:29 PM I had it in Dec 2019 before it became news. My doctor kept treating me for bronchitis. After the third round of antibiotics didn't do a thing for me he sent me to an asthma doctor who did a lung scan on me. Congratulations, you have asthma, you have had it all of your life but it just manifested last month and you have to be on this inhaler for the rest of your life. 246 To this day I'm convinced I had the Coof in early December '19. It was like no other flu I'd ever had -- it did not start with a scratchy throat, for instance. And it did knock me for a loop. I wsa nowhere near real danger, but I slept a *lot.*
My brother had it in late November 19, he had every symptom down to the loss of sense of taste. He just figured it was a really horrendous cold (which is honestly what it was), but later realized. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor ======== Very possible. We know it was in Italy earlier than when China finally got around to telling the rest of the world. Think the initial reports of workers getting sick was in Sept of 2019 and the world wide military games were held in Wuhan in October 2019 which offered an excellent way to spread Covid to the world. Athletes in their prime would actually be good carriers because they would not probably even notice much if they got sick. Posted by: whig at March 12, 2025 05:35 PM (ctrM5) 291

Because I assume to you America is just a country you happened to be born in. Nothing exceptional and pretty much always wrong.
Posted by: Sebastian Melmoth at March 12, 2025 05:26 PM (VofaG) No, I wouldn't say that. The American culture of yesteryear created the greatest economy and culture on earth. But it was ... I don't know? co-opted? by a group of soulless assholes who wanted to get rich and has transformed it in to something else. And I think that process happened in the early to middle 20th century. I don't know what that says about "Americans" since I think 99% of Americans had nothing to do with that transformation, and would not have supported it if they knew about it. But let me turn that around on you, though -- currently our government is funding overthrowing governments around the world and pushing non-stop gay and trans propaganda on unsuspecting populations around the world. Do you support that? If not, can we admit that the US government was wrong on that specific subject? And possibly others? Posted by: Harry Paratestes at March 12, 2025 05:37 PM (uCjyK) 300

I have lied many many times, to bosses, officials, law enforcement, etc, etc. Because the job required me - legally - to do so. Some knew I was lying, most didn't. I have a good friend who is REQUIRED to lie in court repeatedly, every year, for the DC bar. She then goes privately to the judge with an Intel rep escort to explain. Behind closed doors. All perfectly legal. And in fact mandatory.
I would love to see Fauci torn apart by beagles. But it won't be for "lying", I suspect. Posted by: goatexchange at March 12, 2025 05:32 PM (hyS0X) I don't think anything will happen to Fauci, either. Also, no lawyer is going to lie in court to the judge, that's not how that works. You'd have an in camera appearance (ie: outside of the court room) to explain why something can't be admitted in to evidence. It almost definitely would not be ex parte either. Also, none of that is legal, and if what you say is true, I suggest you whistleblow to someone, as that is a huge story if we have government employees who think theyre mandating by law to lie under oath. __________________ Nah. I don't think it was released. I think it got out as an eff up in the lab. Having been to China, and seen how ... relaxed ... their health and safety standards are, a screwup is the most likely explanation. Where China is actually culpable was in allowing travel OUT of China, while forbidding travel WITHIN China. I think they figured that if the virus was going to kick their economy in the balls, they wanted it to kick other countries' economies in the balls too, so they wouldn't be especially disadvantaged. …. Posted by: goatexchange ------ What you are asserting is state secrets doctrine but no, if you lie, it is not a formal legal defense unless your government overseers invoke state secrets doctrine to forestall testimony etc. Otherwise you can go to prison just like everyone else. Mere employees do not make that decision to invoke state secrets though they might try to overawe the rubes with it. Those in charge of an agency have the power to do so formally but there are even times where state secrets invocations have not worked to prevent charges. It is not a complete shield.
