Wyatt Earp was all that is man. From everyone who knew him the report was that he was utterly fearless. He wasn't very fast on the draw, he just didn't get rattled and didn't miss. That goofy scene in Tombstone where he starts yelling "NO!" and just walks out into the stream and breaks up an ambush? Multiple reports, including guys in the Cowboys gang confirm that happened.

Earp's an interesting character. He didn't kill as many people as some think. He did kill at least five people. Apparently his typical modus operandi was to rush at his target with his fists flying. He was big for his time at about six feet tall and solidly built.

Costner's movie about Earp suffered from being too long and having no actual story, it was just a sequence of events. Yeah, that's how his life went but you gotta have some kid of connecting narrative. Evidently it was pretty accurate, and Quaid did a great job as Doc Holiday but nobody and I mean nobody comes close to the performance (should have got an oscar) by Val Kilmer.

Apparently his typical modus operandi was to rush at his target with his fists flying.
He'd pistol whip guys a lot too, something Costner showed. Earp ended his working days as a consultant on Hollywood, who they largely ignored, but he got paid anyway. He seemed to be a guy who just worked where he needed to get paid and get the job done. Whether its guarding a whore house or a federal marshal, it was about keeping the bills paid. Solitary play with objects resembles predatory behaviour in both form and motivation. Play involving another dog tends to be more competitive than play with a human. Dogs appear to use play as a means of establishing relationships with other dogs, and can also derive social information from observing play between third parties. The extension of social playfulness into adulthood appears to be an adaptive trait brought about by domestication, enabling the formation of emotionally-based bonds between dog and owner. Wyatt Earp
at home in Los Angeles, 1923 I've been super into westerns lately. That picture's more for me than anyone else. ------------- Some subset of Earp brothers including Wyatt, Doc Holliday, and Big-Nose Kate lived in our small Northern AZ town (the latter returned here before or after Holliday's death and died & is buried here) prior to relocating to Tombstone. Anywho, there are pictures of them in many of the downtown restaurants, and its remarkable how much a young Wyatt looked like Kurt Russell in one particular profile portrait -- especially with that handlebar mustache. * Let's see if I can find it * https://is.gd/K43Fma Posted by: ShainS -- DataRepublican for Attorney General! at March 05, 2025 08:00 PM (+wIL6) 76

One thing lost in translation, Wyatt Earp fired and re-loaded his Colt .36 cap & ball revolvers every day. Some people think blackpowder firearms are somehow not reliable or will misfire after just a few days. Not true, not true at all, they will go “bang” after being loaded for years and years. I expect he did so to maintain proficiency.
Posted by: Common Tater at March 05, 2025 07:39 PM (5MnqL) Er, uh, I beg to differ. Wyatt packed a S&W #1 (IIRC) or/and a Colt SAA. The fabled Buntline Special Colt of TV fame with a 12 inch barrel, according to Colt's records, never existed and they keep really good records. You are probably confabulating Earp with Wild Bill Hickcock who was known to carry a pair of Navy Colts in .36 caliber, of course, and reported went out every morning and shot them empty and reloaded. He participated in a duel where he shot his opponent through the heart at 75 yards.with a .36 Navy. Posted by: waepnedmann at March 05, 2025 09:28 PM (lMpTF) 187

Earp's pose at a glance is imposing but it actually awkward. The way his right hand is holding the rocker arm where it's joined to the back and his left forearm across and down with his hand reversed.
It's unnatural. Posted by: Braenyard - some Absent Friends are more equal than others _ at March 05, 2025 09:23 PM (+JNKR) Photographers are sadists. My favorite ancestor was Harrison Hobart, Colonel in command of the 21st Wisconsin. Captured along with his entire unit at Chickamauga (they didn’t run when everyone else did), spent time at Libby prison in Richmond, helped lead the Great Breakout from that prison (the first Great Escape), and went back as one of Sherman’s staff officers on the March to the Sea. Quite an illustrious career.

One data point sticks with me, that being that it is suspected that 75 percent of illegals use phony SS numbers.
Got the link? Posted by: Mr Gaga at March 05, 2025 09:12 PM (KiBMU) I don't have a link, but I can assure that is true and more so. You can only get a SSN if you are legal or have a green card. They either use stolen numbers, or fake numbers, the number of illegals who are using ITINs is minimal. I've a Pietta replica of a Colt 36 navy. Six shooter, percussion cap single action, shoots the balls or the conicals I can mold one at a time with my little manual mold.
I'm giving it to our oldest grandson and he can shoot it on a range near his campus. It needs to be cleaned after about three cylinder loads (18 rounds), which is a simple process using water and a little Ballistol. There are lots of videos of guys shooting man-sized targets at maybe 75 feet, which is about the outer limits of any accuracy. Those that used these handguns way back in their intro days must have practiced a whole lot to get good enough to duel or go confidently into a gunfight. Ace, you need to visit Tombstone, Az and do the Gunfight at the OK Corral reenactment. I can reassure you it is 1500% authentic in a Disney kinda of way, circa 1956. Total American explotation schlock and that is meant as a compliment.

We've been to Tombstone many times and when we took the grandkids they wondered why they all didn't get killed in that small space of the OK Corral. It's a hoot. We also love Boot Hill cemetery eight outside of town. Many interesting characters buried there.

Sweet Wyatt, the 10yr old boy above reminded me of my youngest son in 7th grade. I love Wyatt. I also love boys.
Son came home from school one day and said a girl wanted to "go out with him." I laughed and said, "Where are you going? You can't drive! What does this mean?" He wasn't sure but thought it meant they'd walk together to class or something. Ha! But he really did not want to go out with her. I told him to blame me and say I said he couldn't. So I think that's what he did. Well, the little minx in 9th grade asked him out again. I think she was on the wild side but am not positive. She was the only girl he dated before meeting his future wife at another HS, whom I have known through proms and college and marriage and almost 3 kids. He was the total opposite of his father who claims to have had 30 plus girlfriends before he met me. His older brother was also a lady's man before he settled down. Ace, I love all these videos! Reading "Dodge City The Wickedest Town in the American West" by Tom Clavin. An excellent read, well worth it.
Wyatt Earp and Bat Masterson as well as a lot of other law enforcement officers had quite a challenge to civilize the West. (Bat's brother Ed was killed in the line of duty in Dodge City. Wyatt had a run in Clay Allison on the streets of Dodge City.) The author takes his time, and really tells tales, following up on individuals It was amazing is how so many paths crossed in the West. Masterson was at Abode Walls. He scouted for the Army under MacKenzie and Miles during the Comanche Wars and was on the raid that rescued the some captive girls in a raid by Miles command. If you are interested in the West, this is an excellent and enjoyable book. Posted by: Betaraybill at March 06, 2025 02:38 PM (4KVvr) 220
