Oscars Broadcast Notches Third-Worst Ratings in History
The normies aren't revolting, they're just sick of Hollywood's mental illness and toxic narcissism.
John Nolte:Nolte points out the excuses the media is making: People have cut the cord so they couldn't see the broadcast on ABC, and there was no big exciting movie this year like Barbie or Oppenheimer. Note that the latter isn't an excuse. Yes, when you're not making product that people like, they're not interested. How is this some kind of excuse for Hollywood? Nolte points out that the Oscars were available on popular streamer Hulu this year, so the "cut the cord" excuse also rings hollow.
Only 2021, with 10.4 million viewers, and 2022, with 16.6 million, fared worse. Sunday's pathetic 18.1 million is the third lowest since 1974, when these numbers were first recorded.
Hollywood needs some bright shiny new transgressive sex practice to champion, and they rolled the percentile dice and the results came up, Celebrate "sex-work." So that's what they did.
To prove just how lame those excuses are, one need only reach allll the waaaaaay baaaaaacccckkkk to ... 2023 -- or, the year before last. In 2023, the Oscars were not streamed on Hulu or anyplace else. Nevertheless, more people (18.7 million) still tuned in. Oh, and in 2023, there was no Barbenheimer craze. The frontrunner (and eventual winner) was Everything Everywhere All at Once, which only grossed $77 million domestic. ... For some 40 years, the Oscars reliably attracted anywhere from 32 million to 42 million viewers without breaking a sweat. The ratings collapse began in 2016 when President Trump was first elected, which is when the left lost its mind and, along with its mind, the self-control required to disguise just how much they hate us Normal People. This definitely includes the hateful, alienating, and insulting world of entertainment. ... So, in less than a decade, a show that was once something that unified our culture around our shared love of movies and had not dipped below 32 million viewers since 1974, is now unable to attract even 20 million viewers.
I have been pushing back against the term "sex work" for well over a decade now, and am decidedly grossed out at seeing it completely mainstreamed.

They racked up pretty consistent 40-50 million views year over year for decades, and then suddenly...it just starts dropping like a rock.

The audience numbers aren't bad in context. The Oscars has been slowly dying for decades. They drew 16.6 million in 2022, 18.8 million in 2023, and 19.5 million in 2024.
So 18.1M is ahead of 2022 and comparable to 2023. It was higher in 2024 because a number of very popular movies were featured.
Over 18 million people is still a lot of people watching what should now be drawing maybe a few dozen gay crackheads in lockdown. This assumes, of course, that these numbers can be trusted.

I was "forced" to sit through that movie. It was long, boring, nothing happened that was even remotely believable, and despite the gays cheering it, I thought it had a dim view of gays and especially that one character who was a total asshole. Was it well made and shot? Yes. Ang Lee can direct a film.

Found out we were wasting our life by being hooked on the boob tube. Our marriage got better and we did more things together.

Its really not a good investment. Streaming Services cannot make much more money by spending tons of money on new content, they can only retain people they are getting streaming subscriptions from. Do some people sometimes join temporarily just to see a specific product? Yeah, sometimes. But its not hundreds of millions of dollars worth of business like Disney+ keeps putting into series.
Its a tough call because if you don't have new content, you may lose people. But nobody is exactly sure how much money new content actually makes, if any.
