It's slightly better than GPT 4o on some things, slightly worse on others... And costs up to 30 times as much.

    That's not a great combination.

Okay. I think Zelenskyy came in pissed which is a bad move for a client state leader teetering on the edge. Kinda shocked his people let him have that mindset going in. JD was annoying but it wasn’t unprovoked, Zelenskyy definitely started that

They finally made it to Melbourne and I cannot express my disappointment in the lack of trash, homeless people, and general, mayhem in the city. Where is the fun in that? So far I'm struck by how familiar these cities are to me. I think maybe they remind of Vancouver BC, Victoria BC, and Calgary.

There's Ora-Jel, as someone suggested, and Walmart carries an oil-of-cloves liquid in a small bottle. It comes with tweezers and a small bit of cotton; the idea is that you soak the cotton in the solution, then place it in the cavity or lost filling. But a simple dabbing of the liquid on a finger and application of same has worked for me.

38 VDH pointed out, or at least intimated, that Zelenskyy might very well be cornered in his mindset, to the point of monomania, without any outside prompting anymore. He can't be anything other than a conquering hero now in his own mind, because if he isn't he's a thug who got a million people murdered for no reason in a war he could have ended with minor concessions two years ago. Anything that pierces that bubble simply won't be admitted into his thought process.

39 You can argue that Z dug his heels in so hard because he believed the US and EU would have his back, but if so he was naive. 59 It's almost like Trump was legitimately on the fence about Zelenskyy, and really did want to use the day to gauge how he should approach him, and so his emotional "outburst" was out of sincere disappointment and disgust in the man. And I'm guessing that disappointment had already taken shape earlier in the day.

So what to do? Send the little bastard packing immediately, and let the cretins in the media shape the narrative? Or pre-empt the newsfaces, drag him him front of the world, and spin him around so everyone can see his ass is showing?

Note the picture of the earth. We have a waxing crescent Moon from earth, and that means a waning gibbous Earth seen from the Moon.

They hope to get some shots and footage of the solar eclipse from the surface of the Moon this time. We'll see a full lunar eclipse, which means the Moon sees a full solar eclipse.

Blue Ghost landed in Mare Crisium, the Sea of Crisis. That's in the upper NE region of the Moon, close to the limb. That will be the upper right of the disk you see. It's just in the illuminated crescent you'll see after sunset tonight.

From the POV of Mare Crisium, it's early morning. The near full Earth is just a little S of due W. The Sun is low on the horizon almost due East.

And I ran what the eclipse will look like from that location. Very cool.

If you've got the desktop version of Stellarium, you might enjoy running the POV from the Moon.

A solar day on the Moon lasts about a month, with roughly 14 days of daylight, and 14 days of night. The earth doesn't move much in the sky, tracing out a figure 8 in the sky, as it hovers. The stars and sun just rotate around as the east does its little figure 8 dance in the sky.

I'm trying to remember a little solar time keeping scheme on the Moon. If a solar day is 28 earth-days long, divide that into 28, and have a lunar hour be about one earth day long. There was something about that I'm remembering.

Astronomer Kenneth Franklin came up with this, and some watch outfit made a lunar watch based on his scheme. Franklin co-discovered radio emissions from Jupiter as one of his claims to fame.

Anyway, synodic month and hence solar day on the Moon is 29.5 days long. So, he divided that circle into 30 parts, or 12 degrees as opposed to 24 and 15 degrees.

Thus a "lune" he called it is a bit shorter than a day. Now, he then divided that into 24, dubbing it a "lunour".

171 "Moral imagination" is ...
the ability to creatively envision the full range of possibilities in a particular situation to solve ethical challenges. It involves empathy, awareness, and the capacity to discern what is morally relevant in a given context. This concept goes beyond simply following rules or principles; it requires understanding and considering the impact of decisions on others.

I don't think it's supposed to be exactly that. Where sympathy is simply feeling bad because someone feels bad and I don't want them to, or good because they feel good and i want them to. "Feeling with". Empathy is actively imagining how this person is feeling, in detail, and trying to feel that as well. "Feeling in".

I suppose it's fairly easy for that to become a kind of narcissism if it isn't grounded in some larger ethical framework of Charity (caritas, love, whatever you want to call it). Like a creepy kind of Feeling-Envy, maybe.

But it’s not negotiating if the one talking has no actual power to negotiate. The worst it could be is a fraud on the person they were talking to, if they pretended to have such power.

You simply cannot tell Americans who they are legally allowed to talk to. Now if they are giving away secrets or conducting espionage that’s different, but there are much different laws covering that.

250 226 I think Z-man's show the other day was as much about lining his pockets as it is about lining the pockets of the members of Congress who've been riding that gravy train for the last 4 or 5 years.

Little-Z got an earful from "both sides of the aisle."

But. He was also making a play, but at the same time getting sacrificed. He was making a play for money, that Trump would want to appear magnanimous and go easy on him, in front of the cameras. But his handlers were making a play in case Trump didn't give a shit. They could then paint him as mean and combative to what they think of as a war hero (make no mistake, they see no difference between Z and Audie Murphy.)

Poor little Z. You were the bait in a cleft stick meant for Trump.

There is a train of thought that Ukraine is in fact a UK project, to bankrupt the US by getting us involved in another forever war, and re-establish financial controls over the Anglsophere.

I consider this the neo-LaRouchian theory, but it does hold together better than I though it would

I can, without question. See Also: Killing two birds with one stone. There’s a reason, ever notice how much of a hurry the progressives seem to be in?
