It's a nice painting, but it really doesn't seem to follow this script, to me. They're not up a high mountain, and no Sci-Fi effects that are obvious to me. I guess we might at least have Moses and Elijah.

A few years ago I looked at a copy of The Last Supper and, for the first time, wondered why this group of Jewish men weren't wearing yarmulkes. It turns out, the practice of keeping one's head covered did not become a Jewish custom until over a century after Christ's resurrection.

Back in those days they used urine as a bleach. Disgusting but true. I guess the stench of laundry facilities was devastating.

The Roman emperors Vespasian instituted a small charge for using the public toilets. When his son complained that this was an undignified business for the imperial family to be in, ol' Vespy whipped out one of the small coins in question, stuck it under the kid's nose, and said
"pecunia non olet" ("money never stinks").

I have seen videos of people claiming that, because it was a virgin birth, Jesus could not have gotten DNA from anyone other than Mary, so he had to be born a female and presented as male, therefore, trans. I guess they missed the part about all-powerful God able to override the laws of nature, and the fact that Jesus was given a circumcision a week after His birth.

It is not clear when the custom began. It is mentioned in the Talmud, so that places it at the time you mentioned. However, that does not mean that the customer wasn't in practice beforehand.

The main documented example of male head coverings is from the Torah. Turban-like hats were an obligatory garment for all priests serving in the Tabernacle and in the Temple.

Does that mean that there was a custom for other men to cover their hair when they visited the Temple? Or when they went to the earliest synagogues? Or at home for certain occasions, such as festive meals? We really don't know. There is a gap in historical documentation.

90 Willowed, but I feel the point needs making:

Maybe you can explain how "eye for an eye" "flows" into "turn the other cheek". They're just straight-up opposites.
Posted by: MrExcitement

Folks misread "eye for an eye" so readily, it's a shame...in point of fact, if you read the entirety of where it's found, you'll discover that it isn't an imperative for retribution as it's most frequently mistaken; it is, in fact, a limiter, take no more than an eye for an eye, etc. It's mean to keep the penalty for all offenses from being death.

112 Reading up on SCOTUS ruling this morning:

It's procedural in nature. It returns the ball to the lower court. It's about how a TRO expired while the court deliberated.

It's essentially telling the lower court to issue a preliminary injunction after the TRO expired.

It also probably should have been a completely different ruling that killed the whole thing, but this is far less of a loss than people are making it out to be. It's not a win at all, but it's only a minor loss.

Not just allocated, but "spent on work prior to the shutdown" - as with the Catholics suing, the likely outcome will be that all bills prior to X date will have to be paid. And then if it was fraudulent spending, DOJ will have to sue and prosecute to get the money back (hello civil forfeiture for help)...which should be how it is...

And all bills after the date will be SOL.

This is a contract law ruling, not an executive power one. You can't not pay for work already done.

Sort of.
They said, 5-4, "explain which specific contracts must still be honored and why."
Because the lower order was 1st "you have bad motives so you must restore all funding to all programs unless you prove you individually identified each one to suspend."
Then Trump said, "yeah we looked, same result."
And the judge stamped his little feet and said, "I don't believe Orange Man Bad, him lie. Pay all until you really, really look at every single one."
Trump said, "nah bro, we already looked."
Supreme just said to the judge, "yeah, gonna need to see your work 'cause I think you just copied the answer from the back of the textbook."

If I wanted to read more, it's saying, "you know and I know that, once you identify the specific programs that must be paid and why*, you've also made moot the individual program evaluation. So how about you say the Prez can do this before we have to?"

*A dangerous dare. Because that gets way past the fig leaf of process violations they've been skating on and square into Executive discretion.

180 As I read it, all of these orders against Trump have all skated on the thin ice of "failed to follow the process under the law."

None of them have said, "the President can't do this."

And they have all whistled briskly past the "a law by Congress can't tell the President what to do."

And this last ruling is just a lame attempt by the SCOTUS to avoid both of those, avoid having to say, "the President can, in fact, do this," but worse (for the globalist), "and Congress cannot tell him how to act."

Yeah, see mine above.
Never but never does the Supreme Court try to decide the bigger issue unless the absolutely, 100%, no-way-around-it, has to.
They have this obsession with ruling on the narrowest issue possible.
This ruling was the thinnest thread of gossamer stretched across the Grand Canyon.
Again, the Court said, "the plaintiff's haven't proven why their specific programs must be funded and the lower order obfuscates that by hiding behind all programs. Tell us specifically about these plaintiffs."
The burden here is on the plaintiffs to prove likelihood of harm.
And the judge skipped right past that to "bad motives 'cause he suspended all."
Again, the plaintiff's have to prove why they will prevail--and that means why their program, their specific program, isn't subject to the Executive Authority on contract performance, etc.

281 "Adam and Eve had perfectly (clean) DNA. Man polluted it over centuries, thus shortening our lifespans and making us subject to piddly things like colds."

I do at times wonder, how much of the Bible is "figurative storytelling". Man needs a good narrative for a framework to comprehend the more spiritual realities. Did they really live to be hundreds of years old?

27 So God created man (adam) in his own image, in the image of God created he him; (separate act) male and female created he them.

imo, only Adam had holy spirit (the image of God), and it was on a condition of obedience. Eve was deceived, because she did not have that spirit (to discern). By one man (Adam) sin entered into the world ... willful disobedience.

282 This USAID nonsense is so bizarre. the funding is the form of grants, they are not contracts in any sense of the word and the idea that the unitary executive is bound to continue funding nebulous grants that are not explicitly authorized through legislation is bizarre.

All the funding for USAID is just a bucket of money that that executive agency doles out and the idea that a current administration is bound by the bad decisions of a previous administration are ludicorus.

Do we think for a second that a future donk administration is going to allow itself to bound to the spending priorities of a GOP President?

"But we signed the grant acceptance and that's a contract!!"
Um, yeah. And there's a shitload of boilerplate language in every grant that says, the government can revoke this at any time. Which the lower court pretends isn't in there.
It's a "contract" that says, "I'll pay you this if I want to and only as long as I want to and I can change my mind at any time for any reason."
And that's before we get to the sovereign immunity part where you don't get to sue the government for breach of contract unless the government--via specific legislation--gives you the right.
All of which isn't being addressed by the lower court.
