Saturday Night Joke Two rocket technicians at Cape Canaveral were fixing a fuel leak on an experimental rocket. One of them accidently caught a drop on his lip and swallowed it. It was excellent – sort of like an expensive cognac. He and his buddy spent the rest of the afternoon catching the drips and enjoying them. The next morning the first guy woke up with the mother of all hangovers. Soon the phone rang, and it was his friend from work. “How are you feeling?” asked the friend. “Awful.” moaned the technician. “I have a splitting headache; my eyeballs are scratchy; I have this putrid taste in my mouth; and I am somewhat nauseous.” “Have you had an urge to fart?” the work friend asked. “No… not yet, anyway,” replied the technician. “Well, don’t!” his friend said. “I’m calling from Albuquerque.” sound up — Brock Riddick (@BrockRiddickIFB) February 23, 2025[Dino says: injecting fart spray into a Dino costume is like hiding Yoko in a mystery click] ![]() Here's a peek at a Club fridge ![]() ![]() "I believe this is the first time we have come across someone who was concealing a live animal down the front of his pants," Thomas Carter, the TSA's federal security director for New Jersey, said in the news release. From last thread, about Ivan’s Oprichnina:
“But it was absolutely necessary. It was the only way to break the back of the treacherous boyar aristocracy once and for good. Without it, there would be no Russian nation, and if it had somehow survived, those boyars would have ploughed it under for good, and been displaced in turn by foreigners, anyway. I strongly disagree. Contrast medieval Russia to England - biggest difference? In England castles were everywhere, because the Nobility was wealthy and strong. The English Kings *never* gained absolute supremacy over them - and the Church was also fairly independent, as was the growing middle class. Because of these competing power centers, the only practical way to govern the country was to develop a parliamentary system which allowed them all to exercise some power and negotiate with each other. The great tragedy of Russia is that the monarch was able to strangle that process in the crib and institute Despotism forever. Posted by: Tom Servo at March 15, 2025 10:17 PM (T+ixL) 49

Not in the one about to dock. The one there now only carried-up two new crew not the usual four, so there would be two open seats on return for Sunni and Butch. At the lower end—say, $30,000 to $40,000—you might get one that’s drivable but needs work, like engine tuning or track repairs. A well-maintained, fully restored Scorpion with a good history (e.g., ex-British Army, Gulf War vet) can creep up to $50,000 or $60,000. Posted by: TRex at March 15, 2025 11:15 PM (IQ6Gq) 213

Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at March 15, 2025 11:13 PM (w6EFb) R-bar is shorthand for Radius Vector. The other standard docking approach in Earth orbit is the V-bar approach. This situates the two vehicles in the same orbital path. Normally the docking vehicle approaches from 'in front' of the target vehicle, along it's positive velocity vector. That way it can let the passive target vehicle sort-of 'catch-up' to it rather than using more fuel by 'chasing' the target vehicle. Rendezvous and docking Orbital mechanics is not intuitive. Until you've had lots of study and if an astronaut, also lots of training. Disinterested FDA Director... Whole heartedly agree! A modular home has these things in ever bedroom and they're hardwired. Electric stuff is NOT my forte. I can change a lightbulb or an outlet but these seem a bit more complicated. Posted by: Madame Mayhem (uppity wench) at March 16, 2025 01:46 AM (4XwPj) 470
Yay! I completed an easy task made difficult because I have to use Sharepoint at work. It just took random clicking, swearing, experimentation, more swearing, and then print the forms. Stupid Sharepoint. I hates Sharepoint.

Cat is out on the deck, pondering the universe. I am indoors (much warmer), wondering how the heck I'm still awake at the computer.

Raining here on the beach
It’s deserted. So lovely. I see the ferries floating by and the flashing of the lighthouse and the channel markers. Slight breeze. It’s beautiful. Posted by: nurse ratched at March 16, 2025 02:59 AM (JPrvC) 487
It's overcast here & air feels damp. Likely start raining soon. Too bad it's so chilly, or I'd be outside with Cat & pondering the universe beside him.

I'm in the basement of a DC area Federal building. It's cold. Not that scenic. Lots of noise. The whirring of the servers, routers, switches, multi-plexes, etc keep me awake so there's that.

There’s also the problem of “intelligent life”. What do you need to be intelligent? A big, juicy brain, which craves a steady supply of energy (glucose) and oxygen. How big of a brain can you support with diffusion? Probably not very big.

Speaking of songs that somehow occupy your mind, the most unaccountably extraneous example happened to me a few years ago.
So, it was a hot sunny summer day. The grass was long, too long. I knew just what to do. I'd done it so many times. Get my ass (and all associated parts) on the riding lawn mower and correct the situation. Well, needless to say, mowing was done that day I tell you for certain! It was somewhat midway through that chore that a bearing (where is dochen when you need dochen) on the cutting deck started to fail. So it started to develop a strange, rhythmic vibration/hum. It just seemed to play this, over and over. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tN9aaOaZnyg Posted by: somejoe at March 16, 2025 04:07 AM (RCAte) Processing 0.07, elapsed 0.0687 seconds. |
