Evening and morning to you, late toilers and early risers! Another Tiu's Day! Tiu or Tiw, or Tyr, really is not one of the Norse gods you hear much about. He really needed to hire a good PR firm. He was the god of the formalities of war, according to Britannica -- especially treaties. Lost one hand to a gigantic supernatural wolf. Now *that* was a really bad day. Just remember that the next time you're stuck in traffic, and it won't seem so terrible.
Anyway, as our late and unlamented "president" used to say: I'm up, I've had coffee and a pipe, and need to shave in a bit. How about you? Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at February 18, 2025 04:13 AM (omVj0) 12

Even though it was free, it only had 1300 downloads before it was caught and forced to walk the plank.
And the advice given to the affected users? Re-install Windows. Completely. And that's a lot of re-install work, and restoration of data off backups... Alternatively, Malwarebytes claims to be able to remove it without further user interaction (beyond installing Malwarebytes, scanning for threats, and removing them.) A slice of Dave's Killer Bread whole grain toast with peanut butter makes a nice start for the day. The bread is good, but at $6-7 a smallish loaf, not a real bargain. However, I've found a discount bakery outlet that offers them for $2 apiece, and other breads for $1.29. Winning!

Of course it's "something we all knew and no big deal", right, but it's kind of a big deal. The President was incapacitated, and instead of power going to the Vice President as it should (must, really, for better or worse), it went to the president's son and wife because they simply took it and no one stopped them.
This is kind of a big F'n deal, isn't it? The presidency isn't just Up For Grabs when the office is temporarily vacated. America voted (kek) for Harris to be vice president. End of story. It was her right and duty to assume the role, and the Junta stole it from her. From us, too. Not that i care about Harris specifically, but i do care about living under a Government and not some junta of usurpers. That can't be allowed to stand as if it were no big thing. We've had a problem with this since Woodrow Wilson. The 25th Amendment, which was passed after JFK, doesn't really solve this with the "involuntary" Sec. 4 process. There needs to be something to *force* the question if the president is seriously suspected of being unable to carry out his duties. I don't know how that should be done, though. It should be something like one should go to jail, federal felony, if one ignores this. The WH physician should be required to report and trigger this if he notices something. And this should apply to all officials. Remember that congresswoman in the dementia care? Same thing there. The issue should be forced to be acted on. I've never seen anyone even consider what they're bringing to this arrangement. It's like, I'm God's gift to the world and just by gracing your company with my presence deserves a $200,000 salary. Or the ones that say, if you're not going to tip your server 30%, just stay home. OK, if I stay home, your tip is $0.00. These are followed quickly with comments that restaurant owners should pay their servers a "living wage". Well, go open a restaurant and pay your servers a "living wage" and see what happens. That's part of my "bucket list" trip. North to see Rushmore. Hang out for a few days to get a cabin, rent a boat and do some walleye and yellow perch fishing. S. Dakota govt was no help on latter. Told em not interested in the big lodges. So they send me a big packet with nothing but big lodges. Hang a left to see Montana, Idaho and maybe eastern Washington. Come back through Montana. It appears that in efforts to reduce obesity, Maryland will also tax diet sodas at 2 cents per ounce, if this bill is passed.
Not sure how folks will feel about a new $1.25 tax added to a $1.99 two liter bottle of soda. Posted by: Village Idiot's Apprentice at February 18, 2025 06:05 AM Not just soda: Maryland lawmakers are considering a "For Our Kids Act" that would impose a 2-cent-per-ounce tax on sugary drinks, syrups, and powders, including artificially sweetened drinks, to potentially raise funds for free school meals, childcare subsidies, and the state's general fund. Some officials suggest the bill may be modeled after Philadelphia's 2017 law, which added a 1.5 cents-per-ounce tax to sweetened beverages. The tax would apply to sugary drinks, sports drinks, energy drinks, syrups, powders, and artificially sweetened drinks. Posted by: Clyde Shelton at February 18, 2025 07:20 AM (P5BPp) 187

That's not the same as depopulating Gazans which is a nonsense phrase unless we are depopulating them of lice. Didn't the Philadelphia tax fail?
Posted by: NaCly Dog at February 18, 2025 07:22 AM Apparently not: The tax, known as the Philadelphia Beverage Tax (PBT), was intended to generate revenue to support universal pre-K, community schools, and improvements to parks and recreation centers. The tax is a 1.5 cents per ounce excise tax on the distribution of sweetened beverages for resale in Philadelphia. The tax covers a wide range of sweetened beverages, including soda, non-100% fruit drinks, sports drinks, sweetened water, energy drinks, pre-sweetened coffee or tea, and syrups or concentrates used to make beverages. The tax faced legal challenges from beverage industry groups, but was upheld by the courts. Studies have shown that the tax led to a significant drop in the volume of taxed beverages sold at small, independent retailers, and a significant increase in the price of taxed beverages. The revenue generated from the tax is earmarked for specific purposes, including universal pre-kindergarten programs and parks and recreation programs. Reddit mods, at least a subset of them, are probably the ones using the bots. Targetting other subforums with crap-postings in an attempt to get those mods kicked off / demoted for "abandonment", then swoop in and claim the territory as their fiefdom.

67 Of course it's "something we all knew and no big deal", right, but it's kind of a big deal.
