You should watch all 13 minutes of @60Minutes coverage of German speech policing. Framing is absolutely wild.
Protagonist German "prosecutors argue," the VO intones, "they're protecting democracy & discourse by introducing a *touch of German order* to the unruly World Wide Web."
There is ONE critical question. This is it: "You're doing all this work, you're doing investigations, finding people, sometimes putting them in jail. Does it make a difference if it's a World Wide Web and there's a lot of hate out there?"

In other words, 60 Minutes asks this question, meant to be the single expression of doubt about criminalizing speech: "Sure it's important to stop free speech, but you can only jail so many people for their speech, can you jail enough of them to actually make a difference?"

Mary Katherine is enraged/baffled that this is the only criticism 60 Minutes can muster.

The criticism is CAN YOU EVER REALLY PROSECUTE ENOUGH SPEECH?? From an American press outlet, THAT is the question as they follow a band of German authorities on armed raids on people's houses taking phones and computers for insulting people online.
There are 16 offices of prosecutors working on these important issues, @60Minutes
informs us, handling more than 3000 cases of bad memes or whatever. It's illegal if speech "could incite hatred or is deemed insulting," and reposting is also a crime. Sure, no problems there!
The literal German speech police then laugh it up when the reporter asks them "how do people react when you take their phones?" after levying stiff fines on them for speech? There reporter smiles, too. Because that is very funny??
But surely they had a consistent free-speech advocate from the U.S. like @glukianoff
on to counter this gleeful, or maybe a victim of overzealous speech prosecution to tell their story. NO, READER, THEY DID NOT.
CORRECTION: There is another critical question, which is a classic formulation along these lines: "What do you saaaayyyy to criticism that throwing people in jail for speech might actually be bad for democracy? Some crazy people in the U.S. think that!"
But my absolute favorite part is when a German activist says in her not-at-all-intimidating accent, "Already half of zee Internet users in Chermany are afraid to express zeir political opinion und rarely participate in debates online anymore." Gee, I wonder why, HELGA.
In conclusion, what I'm saying about this @60Minutes
\ report is I'm sure it sounded better in the original German.

They were discussing losing your driver's license, and the American asked the German what happens if you drive anyway without a license. The German was baffled by this concept: you lost your license, you cannot drive. That's not even a category in Germany.

BRICS is not so much a currency as it is a hard money international exchange system to challenge the USD and SWIFT. It was made necessary by the US excluding Russia, Iran and threatening other countries from participating in SWIFT and embargoing their banking.
It will continue as long as there is concern of this happening again.
You may dislike it, but you either have to live with it or make sure it is not necessary to survive.

Just as an example, BRICS is supposed to be based on an actual "basket" of assets that can be used to back an international exchange currency held by the member states, much like Trump's proposed Sovereign wealth fund for the US.

I think the authoritarian position is the default position for humanity in general, after people move out of the pure tribal mode. (any day now, Arabs!) I'd argue that what the WEF and the rest of the ruling classes want is to go back to some kind of neo-feudal system, where the top 5% are a new interation of the old nobility, and everyone else are the new serfs, destined to live where and how they are told to do.

The NAZIs suppressed the speech and killed a lot of people. So the old idea was that the government has to control speech to prevent the rise in NAZIism. These 90 IQ journalists take that to mean that free speech leads to NAZIs, instead of the counter argument that the suppression of free speech is what the NAZIs need to exist and progress.

The suppression argument was always flawed for obvious reason that *what* is suppressed depends on who is in power. The counter argument of allowing all speech may allow NAZIs to speak, but it also allows their opposition to speak and cut them down.

Obscenity is likewise probably fine, so long as you aren't destroying the innocence of children. Hell, some PG-13 movies would have been X-rated 50 years ago.

Defamation is subject to civil law, so somebody will get you for that, though for a lesser penalty than the blasphemy thingy.

That's the budget. The currency is different. I think perhaps you are confusing the two.

The only issue with the currency at the moment is that FJB torpedoed the economy with the green new deal at the same time he flooded it with more money than could be soaked up. The green new deal fucked up the economy - along with the rest of the stupid progressive shit - so there was a mismatch. The currency itself is fine, except for he created so much inflation its value is under attack. It is still the global reserve currency, which means the world thinks it is the best currency.

Germany was one of the least authoritarian regions in the world (except for Prussia) as long as that was the status quo, and the reason is simple: it’s hard for rulers to have too much control when they are relatively weak and poor. The immigration to the US got going in the 19th century after Bismarck took over all of it and started conscripting huge numbers of young men into the Prussian - now called the Imperial German - army.

Isn't CBS on the list of government moneys to combat "dis" "mis" information or some such thing? It thought I saw that they were one of the numerous organizations receiving grants directly from the US Taxpayer, through USAID.

The fact that they acted in that way, which is illegal, and that they continue to, in opposition to the actions being taken now, isn't that a conspiracy to deny rights?
