"Bloody close, you colonials, bloody close!"
Evening and morning to all the late toilers and early risers who swear allegiance to the AoSHQ Empire. 'Tis Thor's Day, and we inch closer to the weekend. Tonight Miss Linda and I are going to Texas Roadhouse right after my work. I dread the traffic and wait for a table, but it's the best I can do, going at 5:30 (if we can get there that early). This morning at work I have to put in the "vacancy" notice for my job. This'll be . . . fun. Though that is not quite the correct word. Pixy, you are doing a great job as Tech DJ. My musical taste runs off in other directions so a lot of the bands you're picking I gave scant attention. When that happens, I find myself looking up their bios, their discography, and at a minimum wandering through their top 10 songs on Spotify. One or two tracks often make it into my all you can eat playlist which runs thousands of songs long which I play on shuffle exclusively. Think of this playlist as my own endless personal satellite radio station.

After spending a few months being reminded how much of my life is wasted pointlessly driving to/from an office for no point, I'll totally be ready to hang it up.
Last January, I was driving into work. It was about 530 and I was looking around the traffic and I asked myself "Why am I doing this?" I could not come up with a logical answer so I decided it was time to start planning my exit. Posted by: NR Pax at February 13, 2025 06:40 AM (BpO1e) 92
Schumer is actually kind of correct... Americans generally don't care about giant pork spending bills. We only start to care when you take so much we start to notice, and then find out that what you do with it is useless theft, at best, or actively anti-America, at worst.

In the always amusing category is how the Las Cruces New Mexico public schools deal with anything considered an adverse weather event. One example is the school district delays school by 2 hours when it is 30° outside in the morning. The fear is the roads will be iced up and everybody would die in an accidents while trying to get to school. One detail they they always gloss over account is we live in a desert so there's no moisture to make ice. And on the rare occasions when we get a quarter inch of snow that lasts a whole 2 hours they shut down the schools.

$2.7 TRILLION in improper Medicare/Medicaid payments to people overseas who weren’t entitled to the benefit?
Any idea what the time period of that is? Oh, so over 20+ years. A 2003 dollar purchased a whole lot more eggs than today's. The number is worthless. Posted by: Unknown Drip Under Pressure at February 13, 2025 07:22 AM (a4flb) 172

Why does Ellison want ALL the data in the world, unified, to teach AI?
Ellison is a preeminent Progressive. And he wants to train a GOD. He, of all people, wants AI to be a god - all the knowledge in the world so it can make wise decisions for how we all live. Do not let them make the fiction books come true. Posted by: GWB at February 13, 2025 07:27 AM (hzHvq) 179
Retire? Luxury! I have to work until I die and then dig my own grave.
Posted by: fd at February 13, 2025 06:55 AM (vFG9F) Sucks when that happens. I've see a few people who really tried but shit happened. Most people, though, who're fortunate to make enough that they reasonable could, still live for today and it ends up slapping them in the face. OTOH, there're people who save like crazy and then die young. All a crap shoot, really. Posted by: I used to have a different nic at February 13, 2025 07:27 AM (ExV1e) 180

According to Forbes, citing data from Jato Dynamics, the Toyota RAV4 SUV has successfully dethroned the F-150 as America's favorite vehicle. The Blue Oval's F-150 had dominated domestic sales for decades and when it was named the best-selling vehicle in 2023, it was the 42nd time it had done so.

At summarising news headlines, but at many other things too. Well, headline writers suck, so AI isn't getting any help from the data, either. Posted by: GWB at February 13, 2025 07:29 AM (hzHvq) 185

Similar situation here. And yes, as I talk to the students I ferry around daily, topics come up, and I counter the leftist narrative where I can. I'm teaching them to follow the money if they want to know the truth and to ask the question, "Who's paying for this? Who benefits? Are they the same people? If not, what's the connection between them?" Posted by: Grumpy and Recalcitrant at February 13, 2025 07:32 AM (O7YUW) 190

Posted by: fd Well, Toyota is still making cars people want to buy while Ford has decided to make vehicles nobody wants to buy. QED. An example. The electric F-150 that can go 120 mi when pulling a trailer before needing a multi-hour charge vs. a RAV4 hybrid that gets over 40 mi to the gallon around town and with minimal service will last 200,000 miles with a hybrid battery that is guaranteed for 150,000 mi. There's not much mystery to be discovered here. Posted by: Alteria Pilgram - My President has convictions. at February 13, 2025 07:37 AM (Q8Bj8) 198
