I have reservations about the guarantees that already exist. I wish Estonia, for example, nothing but the best, but I'm skeptical that a high percentage of US adults actually are willing to do what their government has committed them to do with respect to Estonia's territorial integrity.
We've been on autopilot for a long time. I don't think anyone's been sold on these guarantees.

Who knows what is true and what isn't. But at one point when Ukraine was demanding European and American troops, they said they were forced to send old men to fight since they were out of young men.
Many of the young men fled Ukraine at the outbreak of the war, as they were fearful of being drafted. They are spread all throughout Europe and the US as temporary refugees.
I don't know if any will go back, and if they will be arrested for draft dodging if they don't.
Hopefully Trump includes that little nugget in any negotiation.

Russia does not have enough population to exploit the resources they already have. Ukraine from the Russian perspective, was not about territory, but about securing people they considered Russians.
Some folks actually take their ethnic, tribal, and religious identity seriously, and the Ukraine Government was in the process of basic Ethnic cleansing, where they were trying to destroy any vestige of the Russian identity inside Ukraine.
Putin aint a good guy... but last time I checked the US was supposed to be AGAINST Ethnic cleansing.

This isn't true, at least until the grand offensive with NATO weapons was smashed in 1993. There were lots of calls for fighting until regime change, until the borders before the war were reached or even 1991 borders which would recover Crimea.

What is interesting about this is that this agreement will destroy NATO, since there is no way the EU states will make the armed forces that take 5 percent of GDP and will probably cause the alliance to dissolve in reality. Without the US its paper anyhow.

Obama's screwing around in Ukraine including the 2014 coup lost Ukraine Crimea. Nothing happened under Trump cause he didn't do anything with Ukraine other than ask them to look into the Biden crime family and that got him impeached. Putin probably loves England more than the English deep state and 'elites'. And the fact that he has integrated parts of Russia he was fighting 10-15 years ago well enough that they were elite infantry units in the first two years of the war before too many regular army units could legally be used says he understands non Russians he rules over better than the British deep state understands England.

Soon after NATO was founded, France had a decent army, the Brits were wilting but had a decent Navy, and West Germany had a decent army to resist a USSR attack. France pulled out of NATO for a while but still was committed to fighting in NATO if the USSR attacked.
After 85, though, all those forces became a joke in size and the area to 'protect' became larger. But apparently NATO leadership has not noticed any of this. They are insane.

Suddenly Pearl Harbor looked a lot better than attacking Russia than facing the USSR.

Check me if I'm wrong but the ruskys had to import north Koreas to fight. I'd imagine that wars of attrition fought with mercenary troops are ruinously expensive. I think the dream of Russian expansion has met the reality of shitty maintenance, drone warfare and doesn't much care for the reality.

That was a 'stunt', like the Tokyo raid with Dolittle to try and scare Ukraine into negotiation. In a month, the US and UK had stiffened Z's nerve by promising him the moon.
Russia pulled back from Kiev because Z asked him to during the negotiation in Istanbul. Sustaining troops near Kiev was also no picnic. It also gave time for the Russia to secure South Ukraine and create the land bridge to Crimea which made trying to cut off the area a waste of time. The fall of the home city of the Azov battalion in Mariupol with the bulk of the unit also came out of the collapse of the negotiations.

As far as I am concerned the evidence of any Koreans in Kursk is dubious to be polite. Russia has hundreds of thousands of Russian reserves in the area and used them to hold the offensive from the first couple days and has been grinding them ever since.
Russia likes it when you come out of the trenches and drone cover and come out into the open to fight where their artillery advantage can kill the infantry.
See also the numerous Ukr lunges over the Dnepr in he south that used to go on. Russian generals convinced Putin to let them cross in boats to the dacha areas on the river, make a lodgment and then just shell the town until everyone there was killed and wounded.

And, you know what? EUROPE needs to do more to protect against it! This should NOT be the job of the US!
The only real downside is that we got Ukraine in this mess in the 90's and this hurts us in the sense that people aren't going to trust us as allies moving forward. That said, maybe we shouldn't be inserting ourselves into these situations to begin with.

Russia gets Luhansk and Donetsk - even the parts they don't control. Also, they get back Kursk. Sanctions lifted.
Ukraine gets all of Kherson and Zaporizhian provinces back. Crimea becomes nominally Ukranian, but demilitarized. Transnistria either goes to Ukraine, or rejoins Moldova. Kaliningrad becomes an independent country. All confiscated Russian money goes to Ukraine to pay for rebuilding. Exchange of population is disputed territories - anyone can pick where they want to go.

Yeah, especially after the Japanese realized that the Soviets could travel 400 miles from the nearest railhead and that they couldn't come near that logistical capability.
