68 I love the paintings from this period. The expressions and natural poses of the models catches the viewer's attention while the exquisite level of details compels the eye to examine the painting more thoroughly. Looking at this one I can understand why some of de Keyser's works were attributed to Rembrandt. Turns out that confusion is a compliment to both artists.

CBD, thanks. This is a wonderful painting to end the week's art thread with.

EVs don't pay a gas tax. So, how exactly are they paying for roads now? A yearly registration fee seems like the perfect idea.

Granted, after everything is paid for. But, there's no reason to have a gas tax paying for roads if you aren't gonna charge the equivalent to non-gas cars. That encourages freeloading, and we have enough of that.

EVs owned 99% by liberals and the elite.
EVs owned are already big takers of our tax money.
Excluding them from the current tax base IS a subsidy for EVs vs gas cars.
Why on earth would we not charge them AND reduce the gas tax at the same time - this is such a win/win for Trump's base (and for the safety of our nation thanks to EV fires), it's not funny...

Listen, I am no fan of EV's but this move is not meant to get revenue for a legitimate reason, there is enough fraud, waste and abuse in the Highway safety administration that would dwarf any EV tax.

Crawl through the 1.6B HSA budget and I'm sure you could find a good chunk of FW&A.

AMC is an independent network without ownership ties to other networks or studios with streaming services. AMC doesn't have its own, so it's up to AMC to license where they want. (I'd suspect they demand a lot for the license because it was something of a cultural landmark. If I remember correctly, it was on Netflix for a while.)

You can directly rent or buy the show from the normal places like Amazon or Apple.

DOGE: "Legally untouchable because it was already fully funded and operational. Congress can't defund it because it's not a new program, just a repurposed one. Since the (prior program) was originally an IT oversight program, DOGE now has full access to all Federal data systems. Yes, that's right. All of them."

Lincoln's cabinet, while not disloyal, were very dismissive of the President, and thought he was a rube, an outsider, and a lot of them believed they could run the country without him needing to be involved.

By then end of his first term, he had changed a lot of minds, and I have no doubt the second Lincoln term would have ushered in a tremendously better future for the country.

It was not to be.

Funny. Out here in Northern AZ, it's almost as bad as painting the Golden Gate Bridge. Once they finish repaving an entire interstate, they start over again.

TBF, they've finally started putting down a concrete base first upon which the asphalt sits.

On other highways, especially on The Rez -- it's perpetual crack-sealing ... making your already bumpy ride that much MOAR bumpy!

Perpetual Crack-Sealing sounds like a Hunter Biden painting ... and I saw Perpetual Crack-Sealing open for the Tedeschi Trucks Band at the Birthplace of Route 66 Festival last year.
