I think there will also be talk if American involvement in recovery/reconstruction efforts as well. Consumers are rallying to speak through their wallets – or lack of spending – as a way to protest the retreat by some companies from DEI initiatives and President Trump’s actions to eliminate federal DEI programs since taking office. Posted by: WisRich ======= The Russian economy is unraveling. Inflation is spiking to 10 percent, interest rates are over 20 percent, and the careful maneuvering of the Russian Central Bank bought time but is now facing serious liquidity issues. "The Finance Ministry has already exceeded this year’s target, estimating expenses at 39.4 trillion rubles ($414 billion), and expects them to increase by another five percent next year. The reason for this is clear: Russia’s war against Ukraine hasn’t ended." War expenses in 2025 are slated for 5 percent increase over 2024. Why does an FBI director need confirmation? He's an employee of the DoJ, whose cabinet level appointment (Bondi) has already been confirmed. Why can't she just hire whomever she pleases to head up that scumbag police agency? Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice ======== Has to do with major/minor officer distinction. Major officers of the US require Senate confirmation. I remember the FBI being an independent agency technically instead of directly under DOJ supervision. This status would make the FBI chief a major officer of the US requiring confirmation. Posted by: whig at February 13, 2025 10:56 AM (ctrM5) 245

Forget Ukraine. There doesn’t seem to be a disincentive for Russia to not grab more territory at will. They are already involved in numerous other countries affairs where they claim Russia has an “interest”. This alleged agreement to end the war seems to fully reward their conquest and then frees up all the economic incentives we have to stop it. The war in Ukraine is stupid. But in the end it was a misguided policy to try and stop Russian conquest, which will still continue. The core issues have not been resolve in the context that’s being released.

Combined with things like the Dallas PD saying they won’t cooperate with deportations, and there’s a lot to consider on the field.
Posted by: Vengeance ======== Not really important as local governments (or even state governments) may not discipline employees for assisting federal officials in their duties. That ruling came out of Missouri after Missouri passed a state law forbidding local and state leo's from cooperating with the ATF. Federal judge ruled against Missouri. While the federal government may not commandeer local officials directly to do its bidding (leaving aside using grants, etc.), local governments and states cannot forbid nor punish their employees from cooperating. The National Gallery org UK, London The Conversion of Mary Magdalene Paolo Veronese Overview/In-depth "This is one of Veronese’s earliest works, painted when he was about 18, probably for a noble patron in Verona. The lighting from the right suggests that it was made for a specific location, perhaps the side wall of a chapel. The painting’s subject has been the matter of much debate but it is now believed to show the conversion of Mary Magdalene. In western Christianity since the Middle Ages, Mary Magdalene was considered to be a promiscuous woman or a prostitute. Martha takes her sister Mary to the Temple to hear Jesus preach as she is worried about her spiritual health. Overcome by Christ’s words, Mary blushes with shame and sinks to her knees. Mary is converted by her encounter with Christ and turns to a life of piety. The jewellery slipping from her neck suggests her decision to reject worldly things and become a follower of Christ." Blaming Hoover for the Market Crash and subsequent depression is misplaced IMO.
He just took office 9 months prior and it was his treasury secretary that convinced him to not interfere and let the banks fail. Which was crazy because it was one of the main reasons the Fed was created. I think Hoover wrote in his memoir that it was one of his biggest regrets. Even Milton Friedman believed not using the Fed and allowing the banks to fail was a main cause of the subsequent depression that turned Great.
